  • Kicks like a mule, you say? Interesting and informative commentary on the K31! But after firing my newest addition, the awesome K31, I must say that it doesn't kick anywhere NEAR as hard as my K98 Mauser and Mosin Nagant shooting popular ammo

  • @GrizzlyRecoveryZone1 Yeah, the Mosin Nagant blammomatic certainly does kick (and gives off a LOT of percussion when fired). But the K31 isn't very forgiving. Not in the least.

  • You talk a looot :-((

  • how much does this rifle generally cost? and, is it worth paying the high price for the original ammo, or would i damage it eventually by using .308?

  • holy crap! just bought one last week.....i can shoot the wings of a fly with it no problem.......and the best part is my friend has a k98, and he is super jealous of my rifle

  • Great review.

  • NIce Video, Mate...Army Service still is mandatory in Switzerland to this day.

    Greetings from Switzerland

  • You just have to buy Parvi Partizan brass and reload your own or you can resize 284 Winchester. Thanks for sharing.

  • great vid. im gonna have to disagree with you on the kick though, my fathers 30 06 with a rubber buttplate hits way harder than this so does my mosin nagant granted they are a little bit bigger caliber but my k 31 is like a shoulder massage by comparison

  • I got mine coming in the mail, and now that I heard about that bit about the paper behind the butt, I think that's one of the first things I'm gonna do lol I hope I get one. Mine was 350 bucks Canadian.

  • @NormanMatchem where did you order it!?

  • @rzpaintball

canadiangunnutzYcom (substitute Y for a period).

That's where I get almost all my firearms. I must have bought at least 17 from that site already. It's where you can buy, sell, or trade firearms with other Canadians. There's everything from old historic rifles, to brand new Glocks/berettas, to modern accurized rifles, to shotguns, to... EVERYTHING lol You just need your PAL.

  • @NormanMatchem thanks man, im from near Toronto the best place to get old gun/pistole is william arms. thanks for your time

  • Do they make one in .308?

  • No, they do not. However, they are VERY ballistically similar to the .308, and as such, a number of reloaders use .308 bullets when reloading for the K31.

  • im swiss.

i have the swiss karabiner 1889

    its realy cool

    your video is very good

    good information

  • I need to get one of those muzzle caps.

You can get a recoil pad adaptor and muzzle brake from Colorado Gun Sales. That might ease the stress on your shoulder a bit.

    Happy shooting!

  • Nice video, I just got my first K31 about a month ago and am absolutely in love with the rifle.

  • Amen to that! I'll never sell mine. Ever.

  • common misconseption. the k31 was adopted in 1932 insted of 1931.

  • You're correct, it wasn't 1931. Nor was it 1932.

    It was 1933.

  • I love my K31. Mine is the walnut as well.

  • Great review :) BTW, one of the reasons for the heavy recoil is that it actually has a freefloat barrel, only two points of contact. This helps with the accuracy a LOT, but also means that the recoil isn't spread out in the gun. Its weird though, I'm a thin, skin and bones guy, and I have actually never had a prob with its recoil. Its my mosin that gets me :P

  • Yeah, the Mosin-Nagant certainly has a distinct... percussive effect. My friends call it the "blam-o-matic."

I use a recoil pad when shooting my K31 due to the fact that I have a bad right shoulder. Torn rotator cuff.

  • Thanks for doing a vid on this rifle. I just got one myself. I bought boxer brass. The only company that makes it is Norma, and it is very expensive. I will be reloading for it and shooting it in vintage military rifle competitions soon.

  • Wolf also makes ammo for this rifle, and it is also boxer-primed. The prices are a little cheaper than Norma, so you may want to check them out as well.

You can still get GP11 surplus ammo for this rifle at midway and through other dealers as well. Message me for details.

  • Yes I've just located and orderd some rounds produced in Serbia that are boxer and the Wolf is as well. I like the GP11, but it is getting harder to find. Plus I hate the once and out idea of it. Thanks for the info.

  • I'm with you there. GP11 is around 50 cents per round, even in the 480-round bulk case. Norma and Wolf are around $1-2/round, but at least they're reloadable.

Have you reloaded the Norma or Wolf shells yet? I once came across a great website that talks about reloading for the K31, including reviews of which bullets and primer to use, etc.

  • I have not loaded the brass yet. I've not tried the Wolf. I've got a bunch of the Prvi Partisan (Serb) on the way. I have a stat sheet on the bullets powder and groups it shot. I also have reload data from LEE on it. I can not find and data from Sierra. It looks like the 180 gr. Sierra Gameking SP with Reloader 15 powder CCI 200 primer is the most accurate at less than 1/2" groups at 100 yards.

  • Sounds like someone's been doing their homework! Excellent work, man...

  • LOL I' m Swiss. How many bucks do you pay this in the US? Here it costs ~ 100$

    I' m buying a Sig 510 (Stgw 57 rifle)

  • I paid $180 for this rifle back in 2006 or so.

  • okay

  • Thats a good price, if you can find one now they are anywhere from $220-260

  • I got mine for $290 a few months ago...same place now has them for nearly $500!
