  • you don't need a goddamn degree to be sucsessfull ...its always been through hard work and persaverence with anything that you do in life...I have a G.E.D. and I make 70,000 a year in the utilitie buisness...plant operator. our ancestors became sucsessfull through hard work persaverence they certaintly did not have degrees let alone a college in their day in fact most people with degrees make less than I do ,high school teachers for example, wish it wasn't true but there it is

  • "Hey look! There goes Alex. Boy, he does have lots of money -- look at his car. He's doing well. I hear he bought a new house -- bigger than the last one. Nice place. And there's that club he owns, the 'Orbit Room'. Sometimes I go there. That's a nice place, too. I went there the other night, a while back, and there was Alex, playing his guitar with the house band. You'd never know he's a rock star. He's doing well. He's set himself up great."

  • I love it..."go to our gov't schools then go into massive debt at University", meanwhile the guy has all the unique talent he needs and made millions more than he would of...it's like a all star college QB who stay's his senior year and passed up millions and we say "how heroic"...my point is University is not the all in all.

  • @schlabresfan And for every Alex, there how many collecting thier 600 buck welfare cheque every month?

  • @CityslickCaptain unfortunately you are right, people would rather get their free gov't money than actually make something of themselves....in which the band, particularly Peart, was warning us of the danger of collectivism and group think.

  • I wonder what the other 9 kids are doing now?

  • Interesting and absolutely rare little footage!

  • where can i get that stars sweater ?

  • This is edited at:50. What he originally said was , "I want to drive around in big car called Red Barchetta and get people to go, hey there goes Alex....

  • So Alex's parents expected him to do something more 'professional'...

  • Little did they know hed become amoungst the finest guitar players in the world...hes a legend

  • One of my most favourite parts of this movie!

i love how you can see the naïve side of alex and how he is hanging with his hippie friends ha.

  • He made the right choice

  • VINDICATED!

  • @TruthSurge like a boss !!!!!

  • wow alex had a strong accent back in the day.

  • his ass still got rich lol

  • Wow! I can remember arguments like that, with my mom when I was a kid. But, hey, Mrs. Lifeson. He did okay, eh.

  • It was the moustach. With no doubt.

  • WOW!! What a documment, thanks!

  • he loved to play..Its god telling alex keep playing my friend !!!!!!!!

  • Unbelievable.

  • Like a BOSS :)

  • did he drop out of high school?

  • @cbarrett34 Yea because he was so sure of the success that the band will have, he thought he didn't need to graduate, and go on to college/university. Although he did finish grade 11.

  • @TheGuines13 so, alex was around 17 here? so that would've been 1970. he looks a lot older than 17. perhaps he could've been 18, so that would've been 1971

  • Alex knew he was going to make it man,,,they jusy know !!

  • I might be wrong, but i think he kinda succeded, just a bit... xD

  • Rush. Nice Jewish boys, all. I love it!

  • 1:09 Kurt Cobain omg

  • @tuberobert1 I thought the same thing,, looks just like Cobain at 0:36

  • Mzmadmike STFU!

  • Hey, there goes Alex, he's loaded with money...

  • 1:00 -1:05 Is Alex and that chick on meth or something?

  • his dad looks like he's about to cry, looking at his hippie son who looks like a girl lol

  • thank god he quit grade 12!

  • The reason all should finish High School is because of how employers judge the difference between one with and one without the diploma. Alex was a virtuoso and knew it, he KNEW it. If your not a virtuoso or self-driven that HS Diploma or GED Shows ya have a certain ammount of intellectual muscle and a certain ammount of problem solving ability. The Math or History or Gym offered in HS is not so you go and do those things later, its so ya have muscle and mind strength at the end of it.

  • @badback22 And even if you know you're a virtuoso, you have to prove it to everyone else before success follows. Millions of kids know how good they are. A handful are able to prove it. In the meantime, that "stupid paper" will get a job that keeps food on the table.

  • @mzmadmike truth is there are alot of 'viruoso ' players out there who have nothing to say musically . I have known guys that could play as well as alot of the successful artists , but they couldnt write a song , or they were not as fortunate as Alex was in surrounding himself with others of equal vision and talent. Alex is great but he also is lucky . It takes both

  • this might sound bad, but i'm so glad he didn't finish his education !

  • This is awesome thanks !

  • its awesome how his whole family smokes =D

  • 0:33 Yoko Ono,haha

  • man im going through this shit right now its tough because i want to quit school to make music but the difference is that alex had a stable band, my bandmates are total tools, they make it so hard to get ahead with their stupid egos

  • Comment removed

  • @badback22 yeah im in college right now

  • @valdivia562 So make music and finish school. Then see about college classes in performance and theory, AND in business. The difference between a great unknown and a successful great is presentation and marketing. Rush got lucky with a brilliant manager. Most bands don't get that combination of talent and promotion.

  • I dont unserstand why someone would film that?

  • @Scavenger1994 This clip is part of the Allan King documentary "Come on Children", about 10 Canadian kids who wanted to get away from everything and everyone, so they lived alone for 10 weeks on a farm. One of the kids is Alex Lifeson. This scene is the one when the parents come to check on the kids.

  • @retronovation7 Thanks,I didn't know that.

  • And in the end...He got it all its fun to see this.

  • You can hear the Canadian accent in Alex's voice, which I find very amusing, lol.

But aside from that, this is fucking cool.

  • were they munching on marijuana brownies? smoking was very popular in Alex's household lol

  • Alex looked like an early Kurt Cobain

  • I love the stoner Alex look lol.

  • They wanted him to be something, & he didn't want a lot of $ or to drive a fancy car... I think the parents got it right after all!

  • Undeniably 70s.

  • this was on Beyond the lighted stage

  • the young alex lifeson looks like nocturno occulto from darkthrone, like this if u agree

  • Geddys mother mentions Perry Como, check out the song "Magic Moments"

alex did say he got married young

  • Geddys mother mentions Perry Como, check out the song "Magic Moments"

  • I saw this part in Beyond The Lighted Stage.

  • this is just awesome, but why did they film him at that point?

  • hmmm, was it common to film family arguments in the 60's? lol

  • Wow. Isn't it weird how Alex's voice was so deep when he was young, but got lighter as he aged?

  • @Andrewoid95 have you googled Alex Lifeson Disease (ALD) on the Dinosaur Rock Guitar site?

  • @areolaman I think that's stupid, but whatever. Alex can play however the hell he wants to.

  • cool dude

  • Wow! Alex's dad was Glenn Gould?! WTF!?

    Which explains a lot.

  • The Dvd Come On Children is now available to purchase.

  • @jamesterdude Thank you so much for updating me on this, cheers!

  • @jamesterdude whats tht?

  • So I wonder what Alex would say to his kids. "Sure...drop out of high school. Yeah...do it. I did". Not. LOL.

  • notice Lifesons hypnotic influence on these young chicks...they are gyrating in their chairs like cambodian monks. Lifeson almost reminds me of Manson in this.

    His parents where concerned:)

  • This is a trip,''Allen king documentry? Did it ever play on television once? Or at high school on friday after lunch

  • All the money, without the big degree.

  • @Mirokuofnite the time they spent practicing was alot more than the time it takes for a 4 year degree

  • @Mirokuofnite He has the best kind of degree.... HONORARY!

  • Is that Charlene resting on his knee at 0:33?

  • @64lenster I think it is. They got together around this time so it probably is.

  • @64lenster No, that is Sharon Wall.

  • Great clip! Thanks for sharing. I had the same argument at that age...but did not become world famous...yet ;)

  • holy cow, really? this is beyond way cool. we are a young rock trio, only 11, 11 and 9 years old we love Rush and all rock music. ROCKKKKKK!!!
