I agree with what you said at 1:30: Calvin De Haan would have been available at 16 for sure. But like I commented before on this one, they really must have wanted this kid, and good for Garth for targeting the guy he wanted, and making sure he got him. De Haan and Tavares were teammates with Oshawa in the NHL, so they must have had good chemistry together, or Tavares could have asked Snow to do him a favor and pick De Haan, who knows.
i think it was Minn not Florida who wanted him. Maybe both. But I think Minn traded with us hoping thy could get De Haan at 16 and we switched so we could.
And Minn also went off the board with Nick Leddy who is a similar player.
There weren't any good Dmen after Ellis until later in the 1st. So that forced Snow to go up in the thought that either Buffalo of Florida were planning on taking a puck moving Dman. I'm so glad they got him.
i think islanders moved up from 16 because they suspected Florida would take him. At 1:20 Snow gave a "hey suck it" look to someone, maybe the Florida GM.
I thought that nod was at Burke but I wasn't sure . It makes more sense that it was at Florida though. Either way, you got to love it when your GM shows a little nonverbal attitude. That is great.
de haan is so underrated. his hockey IQ and poise is off the charts. think of montreal's andrei markov. the islanders made a good pick. he will be a legit #1 d-man in my mind.
ummmm no....thats not why....if it was, then their scouts shouldve been fired....they chose him bc he's a great dman, not bc he played with tavares....what a silly suggestion
I remember watching him play for kemptville 73's!!
