I live in Orlando. After dropping about 35% over the last 3 years, housing prices have been stable for the last six months. It seemed that a store in my neighborhood closed about every month, no new stores have closed and a few have opened in the last two months. People that I know who were looking for jobs have found some. Prices of milk and gas have dropped about 30%. So while things are not great yet, I don't feel that we're sliding off a cliff as I did under Bush.
