the last bit of this documentary is entirely contrary to what powell actually said. He always explicitely said that it wasn't race persay that would cause ethnic conflict but the clash of totally different cultures. Powell warned against the communalism that governments over the past 40 years have done their best to cement. Integration is the only way to offset racism as when people realise that its not skin colour that divides just different ways of looking at the world.

Enoch Powell, was right in saying that mass immigration was unsustainable and would affect british culture and the economy. The problem with the Islamic people in the UK today is that instead of assimilating into society, they have violently strained to create their own culture within the country they seek to live in.

I have no doubt that when they first arrived on these shores they faced horrific discrimantion. Living and working in Central London I really don't see it now and in fact I'd almost go so far as to say it's the other way around! British are not 'allowing' immigration, they are competing for it along with many other developed economies. Countries fight to liberalize their immigration laws and select the best workforce. Immigrants are typically skilled and cheap labour which allows economy to be more competitive. With spiraling pension expenses and little birth of your own, and public debt already at 100% of GDP, immigration is the only way for brits to sustain their living standards. Brits just don't have other choice.

No, Enoch Powell was not to blame, the writer has it wrong. I was outraged to hear the narrator holding Powell as blameworthy. This simply shows that the English and all other Western civilizations are still sucking up to multiculturalism and diversity. It is a shame, a damn shame, that we see the predicament of Powell come to fruition and yet we remain shut up in our P.C. world. I pray for the West the world our ancestors fought for.

the last bit of this documentary is entirely contrary to what powell actually said. He always explicitely said that it wasn't race persay that would cause ethnic conflict but the clash of totally different cultures. Powell warned against the communalism that governments over the past 40 years have done their best to cement. Integration is the only way to offset racism as when people realise that its not skin colour that divides just different ways of looking at the world.

I actually had tears for you guys over there. It was different in America, we were suppressing blacks and blacks had been apart of our civilization since the get go. But Britain had a culture of its own, I mean.. I share your anger, only a fraction of this anger because I have not lived this anger. But none the less I feel anger and sadness for your situation.

Enoch Powell, was right in saying that mass immigration was unsustainable and would affect british culture and the economy. But to blame the immigrants who were invited over to take the base jobs was wrong, the blame was clearly the lack of foresight in the politicians who opened the flood gates and created a situation where there were victims on both sides. Limits on immigration was right but the racist hateful way in which it was suggested was wrong.

It took 39 years (from 20th April 1968 to 7th July 2007) for the Racial Equalities Commission to discover that multiculturalism was leading to segregation while the average man knew about all along!! Anyone watching this should bear in mind that the BBC chose (not surprsingly) to not include amongst their commentators anyone who agreed wholeheartedly with powell. Heffer's lukewarm endorsement was obviously enough to balance the books, despite the fact that many still agree with powell and up to a quarter of voters would consider voting for the political party that upholds him as a hero.

the reason why the BNP exists is because people are sick to death of this old issue! if labour or conservative tightened the immigration and british law, then the BNP wouldnt exist or be voted for as much. i used to follow and vote labour, but for the immigration issue and nationalist beliefs only, i will always vote BNP until this is turned around.

In one sense Enoch was mistaken in the Carribean community which now shares and suscribes to our vaues, fights and dies for our country and play for England. He did not perceive as did Churchill that the real threat was from Islam. During more recent riots black and white people stood together to fend of attacks by Muslim fanatics. It is muslim immigration which must be halted. That is the most important issue, along with ending multicultural funding that now faces Britian.

I like that way you put it FergusM100 but I feel that there is little hope whilst we have fanatical muslims openly preaching messages of hate and how Islam will rule the world. There are a lot of true and senior decent Brits who are worried about the way society has become.
Maybe if the problem was removed by getting rid of the hate preachers and mulims attempting to fit in with our society things might improve.

At the end, the voice over man says "His career and cause were condemed to the wilderness" Remember earlier in this documentry though Encoh said "Wildernesses are good places I notice for voices. They tend to get reverberation which is often lost in the most crowded places". And that is so true! His points are more valid today than ever because HE WAS RIGHT! I have no doubt that when they first arrived on these shores they faced horrific discrimantion. Living and working in Central London I really don't see it now and in fact I'd almost go so far as to say it's the other way around! I also often find that some Muslim's are much more intolerant of others than you would reasonably expect them to be.
