  • such touching music

  • I always remember the cute girl who lived a block from Del Campo and how for hours we played her records of Elton up in her room the day we met.

If only I could remember her name.

  • I need a new turntable...so I can put my albums to use again. Save me from having to go far to get online...and TRY to listen. I'm not at home...so it's not easy to enjoy the songs right now. The songs from the movie...I love them ALL!!!!

  • This album informed most of 1971 for me. It was the beginning of my future marriage and motherhood and I can't help but feel a tug of the heart when I hear it.

  • sometimes true beauty comes from the most unexpected places, Like a sweet little unassuming film that people remember 40 years later..

  • There was a sequel to this film. Paul has been removed from the relaionship by his father and is at university. In the summer break he goes to France to find Michelle again. Can anyone name the film? I saw it in the same session as "Rooster Cogburn" which was a sequel to "True Grit"

  • They also used this in an episode of The Wonder Years and it was perfect. Elton John can be a great songwriter

  • wish I would have seen the movie..Wish I still had the vinyl..bitersweet.

  • wish I would have seen the movie..

  • LOL : "3 Dislikes"? Man I am so glad those 3 aren't neighbors of mine.

  • I heard the song "Friends" when it came out but have never seen the movie or heard this album till today.Beautiful song and video. Thanks for posting.

  • That has to be you and your new wife\ husband near the end of the video. You guys were made for each other. Happiness to both of you.

  • Geez, Ive got tears in my eyes. Happy tears.

  • How on earth can i buy or watch the movie: What a beautiful memory in so many ways...

  • @agentkerri99 i got my copy on ebay. it was a dvd of 'Friends' and 'Paul and Michelle' made from vhs movies.

  • i still have the original vinyl album safely tucked away...

  • This was the soundtrack to my relationship with my first love. We were both Elton John fanatics and so young when we fell in love... to this day I cannot listen to the album without thinking of him and getting all choked up. It's weird, but I know that I still love him after all these years. This music brings it right up to the surface.

  • Bloody gorgeous!! Still love it after all these years!!! The Album is still with me in my collection!!!

  • so so so very beautiful!!!! tears✸¸.•°*"˜♥˜"*°•.¸☼¸.•°*"˜♥˜"*°•.¸✸

  • Thank you Blooming! I bought the original "Friends" album back in the early 70's and have enjoyed the music immensely, but you've added a special beauty to it that captures the sentiment so well. Thanks again!

  • well done...this music is amazing...

  • I've been a Fan of Sir Elton way back even in my Rock and Roll days.....he's a LEGEND...nuff said!

  • This video is very amazing for me,makes me remember very nice times when I was young.Very nice.

  • makes me get all chocked up!!!!

  • Thanks Bernie, Elton, Paul it doesn't get much better than this !!

  • Beautiful!! Well done!

  • Bloom, thanks for the wonderful video to accompany this song.....truly a tribute!

  • just watching this video has a wonderfully calming effect on me....the breathtaking photos and gentle music are better than all the pharmaceuticals in the world!!!

    Thanks ever so much..nicely done..

  • Beautiful ...simply beautiful.

  • I was watching the Wonder Years the other night and this song came on at the end. I was like that sounds like Elton. I had never heard this before but I absolutely love it. Thank you for posting it with such great pictures as well.

    My best,

    Layne

  • Awesome!!! :-)

  • OMG!! I just love all of the songs on this albumn.Class of '72 "Friends" was our theme song.I dedicate this to a dear friend who passed away last week, forever in my heart Kevin D Carr...xo

  • Still have this on vinyl!!! Why do I get filled up anytime I hear this? God this is so beautiful.

  • @NUMJK2 Because it represents innocense :) xo

  • @blueearthgirl

Yes...very much so, also the wonder of the sense of natural beauty, peace as well as the question that can never be answered.

  • @NUMJK2 Interesting response. I have to ask then, what is the question that can never be answered? Is it reflecting back on the past and thinking about all the things we might have done differently?

  • @blueearthgirl

That and how did this all happen? This beautiful blue marble in the empty void of space.

  • @NUMJK2 I do believe in God. I think He definitely had His artistic hand in this. I understand what you're saying, but I guess it depends on how you look at it. Space isn't really empty at all. It's full of stars and planets and why not life on other planets. If the conditions permit, anything is possible :) Maybe we're not supposed to know, maybe we're just supposed to enjoy every single amazing thing on this wonderful blue planet xo

  • @blueearthgirl

I feel the presence of a Creator in all living things. Something does not come from nothing. It's full of stars (2001 Space Odyssey reference?) and it's full of beauty. I don't know how anyone can look up at night and not feel that we're all part of it all.

  • @NUMJK2 Very nicely said, quite beautiful. I think this music playing in the background makes our writing more in tune, if that makes any sense. I happen to love the night sky. It fascinates me. I love to go where it's dark and just look at the sky. Everything is connected somehow, I believe you are right about that. :)

  • @blueearthgirl exactly..why can't we humans just love and enjoy the miracles of our lovely planet and the simple miracles of everyday life??

  • OUTSTANDING !!!!

  • One of the best John/Buckmaster/Taupin compositions - 5 stars +++++++++ !

  • beautiful music and pics.

  • I do MRI and when I need a patient to calm down I play this tune...works every time!

  • good.. but please... searching "Nomadi Stagioni Augusto Daolio" ... and listen...ciao

  • THE BEST!!

  • actually had this album back when it was released - one of my favorite EJ songs

  • Glorious -

  • The music from "Friends" always makes me think of a beautiful friend from my high school class. We became acquainted my junior year, and she introduced me to Elton John and this movie, for which I'll be forever grateful. Sadly, she died in her thirties of breast cancer, leaving behind her husband and young children. Hearing this music brings her back just as she was in 1971, lovely, smiling and forever young. Thank you for the memories.

  • My children heard this song many times as they were growing up; we had the soundtrack on vinyl, tape & CD, and we have the movie. My husband & I saw it in the theater on one of our first dates as starry-eyed teenagers, so it's very special to us. Our daughter fell in love with this song, as well, and chose it and Canon in D as her two processional songs when she was married in 2009 (she never liked the wedding march). It's wonderful to know beautiful music doesn't have to skip a generation.

  • I first heard this song briefly in an episode of "The Wonder Years". It was a scene between Kevin and Winnie when they were still innocent twelve year olds but feelings more than friendship for eachother. Then I heard Elton John's glorious voice sing the line, "Yes it's funny how young lovers start as friends." I still love that show for so many reasons, but their use of the most perfect songs to fit the right moments is probably one of my top reasons. Thanks so much for posting.

  • My favorite soundtrack of all time. I miss my high school days whenever I hear this song. I can see Sean Bury's (the lead star of the movie "Friends") comments below. This song is just a masterpiece !

  • I never saw this film, but I first had the soundtrack as an 8 TRACK of all things! I played it to death. I was very young and troubled and just trying to find myself in a very confusing world. The songs on this album became close supportive friends that I still like to visit from time to time. Thanks Elton.

  • this is sing from "Wonders Years', end of chapter 40....beatyfull

  • A classic!

  • This is truly amazing!! For so many years...this album/movie, has been in my soul. Now I find, that there's definitely a few, (and possibly many more) who share and enjoy it's sentiment as much as I. This is most definitely...more than a coincidence. There must have been something within that time, that was magical - with this movie being some of the stardust that brought it to life, and has kept it...from what it appears...too be timeless.

  • I saw the movie when I was stationed in Germany. Movie was great, and so was the music. I bought the album when it became available and still have it to this day. Thanks for posting it, and the pics are great too. Keep up the good work.

  • i have the record album, i was 18 when i saw this at the movies in key west florida, amazing, hearing it all again grabs my heart still:) i loved it then and i love it now, i just downloaded mp3's of it from amazon to share it with my family:) and FRIENDS:) God bless the gorgeous artists who make our souls fly and feel so much:)

  • the whole album is his best, great sound track!

  • Like others are saying here..I wore 2 of these albums out as a kid. Touches me deep in my soul.

  • I FINALLY FOUND IT!!!!!! My sister used to play this for us when we were kids. We've all grown apart but i've held on to the memories. Like this song. i just sat here looking on youtube and thru all of E.Js songs and finally found it!!!!

  • Nobody does "pastoral" like the Brits.

I'd put thison the old Dual turntable and blast it out the Pioneer 424 and Advent speakers- Great!

  • i was 7 when this came out....why didnt i just lay on the ground and just savor my youth.....savor the sunshine, savor the innocence,,,,damn if only i knew

  • @ new0830 I hear every word you're saying.

  • Thanks for this. I was 59 this past January. Yes, this brings a tear still. When I first saw this movie I was an "ancient" nineteen years old and thought this movie was about really young kids growing up and finding each other. If I only had known what "young" was I might have realize how wonderful it was to be so . . .

  • @gaitcrazy you betcha.

  • Wow! I haven't heard this piece of music in years. I'm 56 and took my first real girl friend to see the movie when it came out in 1971. I wore out the LP and had to buy a second copy. This stirs many memories and takes me back to the early 70's - the end of high school was in sight and remember the fear of what I was going to do after HS and that I wouldn't see most of my HS friends once I graduated.Good times and sad times. I don't mnid saying that this song still can bring a tear.

  • I am turning 50 this year. I had the fonest memery of this song in 1976. My first love KK. She was and still is in my thoughts allong with this song! Here's to you KK.

  • In Bloomington where I can't live because I'm gay

  • lovely

  • bloomingproud who are you

  • Beautiful video. Beautiful music.

  • Paul Buckmanster in fact ...is the composer of that master piece

  • Thanks for posting this. It's a shame that in the many times I've seen Elton in concert over the past 33 years since I first saw him, he's never performed anything from this soundtrack. Maybe someday, a "Rarities" tour...

  • It is wonderful how such a beautiful song and this video can bring back such wonderful memories in our lives...thank you Elton, Bernie and "Bloomingproud." It today's world we could all use a mode of transport back to better times...thank you again.

  • Lovely movie and song that brings tears.

  • One of the greatest sound tracks of all time!

  • you are so right, much underated

  • Sitting during a free period in high school behind the curtain on the stage by the lunchroom, not so patiently waiting through all this prelude to the song itself, being played on an old panasonic by my more musically intelligent best friend. One of the greatest songs he and bernie did.

  • What can I say about Sir Elton John??? He was and still is a wonderful singer / writer / composer whom I will NEVER EVER get tired of listen to...

God Bless Elton John and "Bloomingproud" THANK YOU for such a wonderful video!

    Just amazing!!!

  • That was at the time when Elton wrote such great songs, songs that noone else could write, and never will. This is maybe the most beautiful song elton wrote. Sad he lost the ability to wrote songs like that. But Im afraid that theres no profitt in such great songs. I wonder if Elton himself know how great this song is.

  • No, he doesn't, or it would be a concert staple. There are 3 great ballads from the Friends soundtrack. and the only thing that ever gets even passing mention is Honey Roll and Can I Put You On.

  • How wonderful to hear that again...

  • Thank you Futsoc for taking the time to write to me. Your kind words will stay with me always. May your life be full of love and just some of your dreams come true. Sean

  • I remember this from the Wonder Years. :)

  • Vorrei impiccare chi ha definito questa "una musica mediocre per un film mediocre". Non entro nel merito registico, l'introduzione non è di E.J. ma di Paul Buckmaster, ma la canzone è un distillato di emozione e poesia. In Italia è stata ripresa dai Nomadi...

  • To the love of my life, Nina L. At Fess Parkers Double Tree Resort, i miss you.

  • Thank you for all your kind comments. Such a long time ago now since we shot the film. I am just so amazed and touched that such a tiny film could reach out and touch the emtions of so many. I am very humbled to know that I played a small part in something that gave you joy. Sean Bury

  • you touched many hearts, inpired many dreams and reminded us of the glorious beauty of innoncence...of innocent love! These have remained with me for ever...and will carry me on beyond!! You brought life to my soul, to my dreams...God bless you , and you!

  • I think a lot of American kids saw the movie when it came out. I loved it. I went to see it because I knew Elton John had scored it and I wanted to see how he did. And then I enjoyed the story so much. It was a good break from the films that were being made at the time.

  • Sean,

Just re-viewed for about the 20th time Elton John's "Seasons" on YouTube, and noticed your message.

As a 56-year old man who saw "Friends" with his first girlfriend at a movie theater in Los Angeles in 1971, I would also like to thank you for making this film.

I hope your life has been full and happy!

  • @tunanorth Thanks for sharing the memory ! My life has been blessed and I am the richest chap I know with so many wonderful "friends" throughout the world. What's that wonderful quote (forgive me if I misquote it) I heard the other day ?... I started out with nothing ... and I must be rich, cos I still got plenty of it for everyone ! Well it made me smile. So all the best to you too and may your gods go with you on this strange path of life.

  • @seanie5c Thanks Sean. Its that simple.

  • @seanie5c

Hi Sean. Did you have any further contact with Anicee after doing the movie? RIP Anicee.

  • @seanie5c: As you mentioned a couple of years ago, it was a small film, and I wanted to tell you that, to my generation, both young boys and girls in 1971, it still is an iconic, beautiful film that, at the time seemed to define many things, some which we did not understand then because we were very young, and some which we still do not understand now that we are much older. And we continue our search for its deeper meaning. We all know it's there. And our lives are richer because of it.

  • This song is amazing!! It's so beautiful!!!

  • I'M CRYING..............the beauty of this song never ceases to astound me. It makes you feel so small............like you are just one face among many. And then you see another face..........standing there and at that moment you KNOW......they are the one.

  • to my first love in escuela secundaria nueva galicia

    chihuahua chih,mexico

  • I was 15 in 1971. This album was a mainstay for me back then---I played it over and over and hearing it again now makes me fel young again.

  • maravilloso.....

  • This song is so gooood. I can't download it anywhere

  • 25 stars!!!

  • I was 15 then, never saw the movie. I have the album that I still cherish. I remember the poem now "I meant to do my work today"......I need to get the cd as I don't have a good audible turntable. Thank you. Such wonderful simple times. 1971......

  • Buy a copy of 'Rare Masters'. It has the entire soundtrack on there

  • Thanks!

  • The movie was beautiful.

  • Thank you! Will try to find it.

  • you can find the movie in vhs on amazon - search under "sean bury". It was never released on dvd. This was such a life-changing movie when i saw it as a teenager. It is expensive but worth it!

  • Thank you very much. I saw some clips on YouTube. Looks so beautiful.

  • This song stirs such a longing in my soul to go back to simple times. I LOVE the entire album and remember playing it over and over.

  • Ten bucks says they are divorced now..

  • as a burning lover then and a divorcee by now, you comment make me LMAO

  • To my only love Lou,

    Oh!

  • I lived with my father on our own,

And we had a cottage where we'd go,

    And he died too,

    Now I'm alone.

  • Very pretty song. Is this movie available to rent on DVD?

  • I think you're going to have to do some eBay surfin', Lynda

  • i had this masterpiece of an album waaaay back in the day, i guess i'll do some net surfing to find it again. does anyone remember the poem in the movie that began "i meant to do my work today"?

  • I Meant to do my Work Today (a day in the Country) Lyrics:

I meant to do my work today,

But a brown brown bird sang in the apple tree,

    I know that one too,

And a butterfly flittered accross the field,

And all the leaves were calling me.

  • nancy, thanks for the lyrics. simple but stirring.

  • Awesome and beautiful song. I first heard it on a Wonder Years episode and am moved each and ever time I hear it!!!

  • yes, so wonderful

  • e.j. at his best of writing.. close to the best classic of all times, if only critics sometimes would forget he is a rock star.... anyway here's how to write moving music. sheer poetry

  • In these days of economic uncertainty and divisive politics, sometimes it is important to stop and look at the things that really count-the beauty of nature and the blessing of friends. We will always get by if we understand what is really important.

  • Brilliant. Lost my album so glad its on here. Thanks for posting.

  • Thank you everyone for your ratings - this beautiful song is now back to it's much deserved 5 star! Wishing all it's viewers a wonderful holiday season, filled with much love, good friends and holiday cheer!

  • @Bloomingproud Great imagery! You seemed to have included places, that folks have either been to...or wish to go. It's quit an "emotional collage"..., one very fitting for this piece. It also makes you realize...just how much we're emotionally guided, by where we've been, and where we wish be.

    Thank You

  • If you are viewing this video and have enjoyed, please help to get the rating back to 5 stars!

  • Cold snowy nights in Port Ewen NY,astonishing sunsets up at the Ashokan Reservoir or all night parties overseas in BKK! This miraculous composition has always been a favorite of mine since I first heard over 35 years ago. Whether polishing off many green bottles,or making small green buds disappear or perhaps brushing the long dark hair of an amazing goddess or simply absorbing life in general I will never stop loving the masterpiece known as the FRIENDS soundtrack! THX 4 postin this gem!

  • Where did you get the photo collage of Saturn on earth's horizon? That is so cool! I want it for my desktop!!

  • MusicDirector check your You Tube inbox, I will locate it and send you the url.
