Wow what a great idea! Please do a tutorial. I'd love to see the process. I just bought a Big Shot and have yet to learn how to use it, but embossing metal looks like a fun project.
You can also burnish the edges with the back side of a spoon if your worried about them being sharp... I have never had a problem with sharp edges...oh and one other thing if you use dull scissors to cut the aluminum it actually helps sharpen them!
I just use the extra sharp pointed cutter bee scissors, poke the tip into the cans upper edge right before the edge starts to taper for the top of the can and cut around and do the same for the bottom then cut down the side. To help stop the aluminum from curling you can grab each end and rub it against the edge of a table pulling down so it flattens out. If you run it through a xyron then emboss you get a great adhesion from the adhesive on the back.
love this idea! What do you do about the sharp edges? I can't wait to use this idea..I just don't want to cut anyone if i use it on a card! That would be my luck (*wink*)!
@ehmurdock Once the metal is glued onto a piece of cardstock, it should be okay. I don't think the metal would cut anyone as long as the edges are glued down securely. If you were concerned about one that you make, you could always cover the edges with something else like ribbon, I guess!

you can cut aluminium cans with the snip cutters then you can die cut with sizzix dies the thick ones. if you put foam on the back first when you cut it it will be smooth edged and ok for pendants
@sewsweet08...TFS!!! Are you talking about the scissors that you cut stamps with? I just used my regular scissors. I'll be posting a video soon as well! When you post yours, it'd be great if you want to post it as a video response (and likewise)!
tin snips from the hardware or cheap store work well
i learnt about it on craftster a lady in england wrote about the dogtag necklaces she makes from tins. they were cool. but enbossed would be awesome. i gotta try this.
@okakuku...Oooh, thanks for letting me know! I'll have to go and watch that video! It's not the original one that I saw, but I'd love to see other projects with metal!
@KarenScraps...I did actually find that one with the diamond plate when I was searching for the original video that I saw of the cutting metal! It was really, really cute!!!
@cherryjewel...wait, actually the one I saw tonight was actually a man doing that masculine card with the diamond plate, lol! I actually came across quite a few awesome projects using metal in search for the original one I saw!!!
