@marktrc89 I have to agree, i only found out of this instrument maybe a week ago, but i saw a picture of one about a few months ago and thought it was a photoshop lie. It seems very interesting because me and my friend are a two man acoustic band, we use a 12 string and a six string but having a bassist would be cool but we only has each other, if i had this i would drop the 12 string and either let him use it or the 6, the only problem is price and ordering...
nice video...little bit of history...awesome music...captures the imagination...been playing guitar LOOOONNNGG time...finally getting a hatp guitar.....another challenge to keep my musical life interesting
The reason Andy McKee was not in this video is because he has not attended the convention for the past 3 years. I met him at the first 2 I attended in 2005-2006.
Other questions, I do not have a title for that piece I was playing, just some doodling, but shows some good bass note usage and muting techniques. Other inspiring harp guitar musicians worth seeing are Stephen Bennett, Muriel Anderson, and John Doan, all of whom will be at this year's gathering. Cheers!
Wow great comments, thanks for the awesome feedback. Just a reminder, hgg8 is in Indianapolis this year, nov 12-14, 2010.
To answer some questions first and foremost there will be instruments available soon thru holloway harp guitars, and should be less than $2000. I have one now and love it along with my brother's new 12 string version, (12 guitar x 6 sub bass = 18 string ). A video of that will be coming soon, probably after hgg8 where it will be featured...
Thanks for the wonderful sharing of how you made your first Harp guitar and hearing the wonderful sounds coming forth. For the Angel that shared this vid with me it is another gem. NOW get rent one and see how it feels; then if you desire one IT WILL COME YOUR WAY. Of this I am sure. <3 to U.
man just imagine you're just sitting on a park bench playing the harp guitar and people just pass by you astounded by of course the shape of the instrument and what kind of music you can produce off of it. such a beautiful instrument.
Why didn't they interview Andy McKee?! He is the best out there! He said in one of his concerts that he comes to this gathering, so why leave him out?
I'm not trying to dog you guys. I'd just like to see more use of the bass strings in your video.
On the photo of the inventor you can see his hand position. His thumb looks like it never left these upper strings.
What I'd really like to see is some modern experiments with the old Lyre guitars with the "arms" that connect the headstock to the body with a floating fretboard as well as those that meet the body.
we only have two hands...lol. the bass strings are only plucked so there's only a certain amount of things you can do with them. If you add a fret board you've basically got a Chapman stick or a double neck which is an entirely different instrument. A harp guitar is mainly for folk and bluegrass (new age) players that want to accent notes with a deeper bass sound.
very nicely put together..I really enjoyed it and you and your brother are good players. I like the small size of you guitars so you can really get around on them.
I had the great pleasure to see Michael Hedges perform many times. I saw him perform one of his last concerts on my birthday in 1997. When I saw Tuck Andress perform at the 1st World Guitar Congress I was emotionally struck with how much I miss Michael. What a tragic loss for guitarists and music lovers everywhere. Love the video. Thanks for posting.
The scene in the opening and end of those two musicians by the lake during the sunset was beautifully shot and made me look at it in HD. This is the only video I have cared to check on on HD because of that scene. Wow.
I think Jeff got it right. But it's this video that's bad ass. Great job guys. I'm a 3 time emmy nominated television producer and I think this video is outstanding. Kept my attention the entire time and it really flowed.
@HarpGuitarTexas You're seriously stretching the truth here. Your local news station KHCW was nominated in a Regional Emmy award three times where you were listed as one of the producers. You're being a braggart by telling everyone you're a "television producer nominated for three emmy" so your opinion seems to matter more. You forget all it takes is a google search to fact check those claims.
The last song at the end is bugging me, I can't remember the name! Someone help me out?

Great video, BUT...
If you are sitting there with a "Harp" guitar(or more accurately a "Harp Bass+Folk guitar") you better be plucking some of those dang bass strings!
Otherwise what's the point?
Anyone can make weird guitars with a bunch of extra strings and do-dad's, but if you don't use them then it's just that.
It's obvious to me the inventor had in mind to make less band members into more band members by adding the bass to the guitars.
No frets, so he can just thump one now and then.
