As a Pole, I laugh uncontrolloably every time I hear Czech language. But this song is just SO AWESOME that sang even in Czech language sounds incredibly intimidating and omnious. And I love it to bits >w<
Being a czech person and an english teacher (and sort of theatrical singer and componist and lyrics writer), I have to admire the sheer power of the song and the text as well as the high quality of the translation. But I still think that the opera singer is a bit of an overkill, in the original the whole thing is significantly more subtle and the pronounciation is not distorted. But I realize that Moravec (Frollo's czech speaking voice actor) is no singer, despite the awesomeness of his voice.
There is a more serious mistake in the lyrics, however: it's not "a ve mně schází hřích" (a sin is missing in me), but "a ve mně VZCHÁZÍ hřích" (a sin is GROWING in me). Due to the obligatory devoicing, the difference is hard to spot for a non-native speaker, that's true...
I have to admire Czech translations of Disney songs (or CZ translations in general)... they are so accurate, really... I hate dubbings, but if I had to choose a dubbing, I´d choose a Czech dubbing...
More precisely, "jak oheň všech pekel by hořel v kostech mých" means "as if the fire of all the hells burned in my bones". If the author of the translation studies Czech, I bow to him/her, because it must be a very nasty language to learn. Beautiful language to master, however.
Does anyone knows the voice actor's name? I have searched it for a while, but found nothing...

The lyrics of the czech version are much similar to the brazilian portuguese version. Both are great but since i'm brazilian, i prefer our version xD

I agree. I think some of the emotion is lost with his overdoing the vibrato. However, I think his speaking voice is ideal

It means "(it) would burn in my bones"

And I think in lyrics there's an error. It should be "by hořel v kostech mých" and not "vyhoří v kůži mé".
tomaskukla 3 years ago
what does by hořel v kostech mých mean then?

it means "would burn in my bones" :)

Yes, it's sung by operatic singer and spoken by film actor.
tomaskukla 3 years ago
maybe they used a different person to sing it instead of the speaking actor? cuz there is no way this could be his singing voice..right?
