reminds me of an article and pics that you see in Classic Trains Mag. Well done my friend! Your layout is extremely well done and you have a talent for editing!
@MikeLucy0903 In the interest of accuracy - it's not my layout. It belonged to master modeler John Pryke - it' since been dismantled. And funnily enough, I'm a tape editor in my "day job"!
...in our lives...there are moments, when an experience proves itself to be...a, "keeper". Great or small -the. 'life' that it takes on comes from a perfect blending of sound & motion, which melds itself into a living work of art. This little video is one of those moments. Great lay-out and wonderful phrasing between the musics' timing & beat and the trains' mechanical cycles and track-movement...from turn-table to fade-out. That studio should be payin' you to do this in hi-def...
@SittingMooseShaman Wow, that's about the nicest thing anyone's ever said. Thank you so much. Sadly this model railroad no longer exists but it lives on in video. Ironically, my "studio" just laid me off, so I guess their taste isn't as refined as your own! Thanks again for the very kind words.
This is terrific - I'm actually going to be working on my own New Haven layout, and I'm making it with the full four tracks!! The more trains, the better! It's going to be DC though, to save costs - so I won't be storing any extra power on it, and I'll be using four different power packs.
Beautiful railroad, but I have to commend you on your video production, it's first rate like the layout. Your track speed is just right. I look forward to more of your work.
I go to school in New Haven, and this looks better than the actual railroad :-P Well done! I wish they'd bring some of this old classic equipment back—there's no romance in these aluminum-can Metro-North things...
Thanks - John Pryke did a magnificent job on this model RR. He relocated a couple of years ago, so sadly these scenes are no more. We shot this about a week before the sawzalls came out.
That's a shame, but sometimes it has to happen. The only pike I ever built was when I was in middle school. Even though I knew it was horrible, from design to scenery, I was still sad when I had to cut it up. :-(
I can't wait 'til I get my own place with enough space to get back into the hobby. I'd like to take a crack at modeling some of the smaller New England lines. New Haven was an important hub back in the golden age.
True.. but the M8s should be nice to see for the first time. I think they keep the two FL9s in New Haven sometimes, so you might want to check it out.
@tartopfan Hey, you're young, you've got a lot of time ahead of you. When I was your age I was just getting into model railroading. Now I'm more into studying the history itself (how trains used to be considered a point of public pride, for example).
@tartopfan Cool! I'll have to look them up. The New Haven is a real classic—in its heydey it was one of the major railroads in New England, actually carrying freight when our country actually built stuff. Its livery lives on, and once in a while you can catch the orange, black, and white locomotives, but it's not what it used to be, especially now that the passenger traffic is run by New York's MTA (although they do a great job).
This was one of the best "home" videos from a cab view I've seen. Really well done. It reminded me of a number of cab rides I took back in the early 60's on the NH and NYC (I had an uncle who worked on the Central). The modelling here is truly amazing. At times I had to remind myself it was not the actual NH!
I was part of John's operating group for several years. It was a sad day when he decided to move. He's hard at work on a new railroad, but it's much smaller.
John Pryke has been in MR several times. This layout no longer exists...he moved a couple of years back. We made this video just before the layout was demolished.
Wow, what a cool video it looks exactly like a magazine like MikeLucy said. GREAT JOB!!!

Thank you! It was a labor of love - but it came out very well indeed, if I may be allowed to say so.

Love this railroad. I have seen pics of it any many books that john has written or had a part in. But i love the camera work. It works well.
This layout is what inspired me to go into the new haven prototype a few years back. Would love to see more of it. A shame it no longer exists.
