  • Hey, thanks very much for the info about it. I just wish there was a competitive server for me to try on, and I'm going Medic to help those guys out! I haven't seen any competitive servers near my country (Indonesia) though.

    - Xierra (An experienced F2P player)

  • @oliball123

It can fire out of the range of a typical sentry (and hit fast 16s).

It has double health. It's silent. It has double rate of fire.

It can seek spies, being manual. With another engineer repairing it, it's unstoppable.

  • What system is this for? Please reply. Thanks

  • What is the most popular website for competitive pc gaming ladders and leagues? There are only a hand full of PC games that can be played on gamebattles.

  • @ProfessorMultiKill ESEA for cs 1.6, css and team fortress 2

  • tnx 4 this great info :-)

  • This sounds like a tutorial to the F2P players :P

  • How can someone become a caster for these competitions?

  • @RandomTask3000 Play in them for a few seasons, then start begging for the demo's of the matches.

  • does competitive play HAVE to be 6 vs 6 ? and if it doesnt, then which formats can be done ?

  • @Accuratekk 6v6 is the usual but you can also have 9v9 Highlander which mean 9 people per team, one person of each class.

  • @iAmPesukone I mean Highlander means*. Singular, not plural.

  • @iAmPesukone thanks !

  • @Accuratekk 8v8 but it sucks

  • Good old times :D

  • hey, could you do a soldier competitive guide?Ps.=)

  • How come the cookie cutter setup doesnt have a spy?

  • @thegamemaster800 Because the spy is useless in 6v6.Overrated class too IMO.

  • anyone else hear the FB message notification at 11:27 ?

  • I shall give you guys the best piece of advice you will ever receive in regards to competitive fps: if you actually wish to be taken seriously as players drop this game and move to quake or 1.6. I mean come on ppl, its just embarrasing...

  • @Reaver2K7 Troll spotted.

  • @Reaver2K7 Wow thats the fucking worst advice ever lol

  • i got several questions:

    1) are custom weapons (natasha, direct hit, force-a-nature, demoknight etc...) allowed in competitive? where can i have a list of allowed weapons?

2)i see in top comments "hats are completely balanced"... well, they have no effects other than graphicly, so how can hats be imbalanced?

3)how do you get the bar showing health, classes and names of players?

4)are all maps available in competitive ?

    5) where can i find "replays"?

    ty

    please understand im pubby...

  • @Polored1066 Yes they are. You'll sometimes see scouts use things like Bonk! Soda. However default weapons really are the best for most every class. The standard soldier loudout is Rocket Launcher, Shotgun, and the Equalizer. So thats a pretty common special weapon.

  • nice videos!

    subscribed! and liked!

  • nice goa in background ;)

  • is competitive play only control points?

  • @TheMadMontage no it is not. but usually not mained for its situationality.

  • @TheMadMontage I don't believe so...

  • Thumbs up if you thought you had Skype messages lol

  • @Colbysrapname It's soo annoying :P

  • What HUD is being used here?

  • i just started playing, and i love pyro (human torches= yummy), and im averaging about 2.5 kills/death as of now.

but i went on the forums, and found out that pyro is apparently hugely underpowered in competitive :/, why is this?

  • @NachtCrus It's underplayed mostly because a pyro's damage output very heavily relies on being in a close-quarters fight. Up close, yeah, great damage, but against a small, well coordinated team, there aren't going to be very many times where you catch an important player (demo or medic) off guard. The scouts can very easily win against a pyro and even if they don't, they'll tell their team where you are coming from and you won't be able to get close enough to do much beyond chip damage.

  • @NachtCrus he answers that on the medic video at uh... not koth. i forget right now... but basically because you relly on flanking and thats hard to do in comp.

  • Fantastic video. I watched it for the first time as a frequent player of TF2 in public servers, and I found it both entertaining and instructive. Great work!

  • what kind of monitor is usually used for competitive? i cant stand the lack of vertical view allowed due to restricted fov.

  • Comment removed

  • @ceelo4 120hz monitor. But having that is useless if your PC can't get a stable 120FPS in the first place.

  • @ceelo4 well..u can increase your FOV by writing this command "fov_desired 90.00", u need a CRT screen or an expensive LED screen ( i got normal LED but still 60hz ) since CRTs got high refresh rate

  • How do you get free camera in a demo?

  • @swagbucksmaster360 u need HLTV demos not regular one

  • I want to get documented about competitive TF2 because I'm the owner of a spanish clan based on the friendship between the members, but some of us want to start playing on competitive TF2, but I can't find anything apart from frag videos and some advanced techniques: I would like to know about entering on leagues, wars, and getting really involved in this world. Also, about class/weapons restrictions and that stuff. I would be pleased if you can answer me, or else, add me to Steam: davidmario5

  • @360GunzPro They're just not all the time, you'll see them more in the final Control point (CP) they're used for killing the medic, its not that rare to see a sniper, but they won't be there all the time.

  • Why isn't the sniper in the competitive matches?

  • Why doesn't anyone play spy?

  • @somekooldud

Every class in competitive TF2 can outpace a Spy. The other major factor is that the Sniper serves the same assasination purposes with much less risk. Spy is still used sparingly where the Sniper can't get line of sight and the enemy's Medic or Demoman needs to go down quickly.

  • i have played tf2 for 3years now and im preety good i want to get into this type of tf2

how can i find a clan

  • @jacktystacey usually if ur good u can just find a clan server thats recruiting, play on it alot, get affiliated with the members, then apply and theyll usually let u in if ur good and they know you

  • Would TF2lobby be a good start for comp play? i've played in pubs for a while and I feel like at least doing some comp TF2

  • @Cornspenser

It is the best start for competetive play. But keep in mind that there are many people who have played the game much longer than you and are probably much better. Try to watch a few comp matches and vids like this so you at least know how to play comp before you start in tf2 lobby. If you are a total noob it might be frustrating for you to play and for your team because they will lose. Individual skill is just as important as teamwork in my opinion.

  • Re-upload with lower background sound and no voice echo. This video deserves that.

  • love these vids, helps ma strategy lol

  • Why did you not speak of hats?

  • I learned a long time ago from Super Smash Bros. Brawl stuff that "competitive" means "half the game banned".

  • @CpnGame You got it.

  • @tintinytdj

I, for one, enjoy the new weapons. Even the Australian Christmas update stuff.

  • @CpnGame Yup, me too!

  • @SearchingF5 It's pretty crazy overpowered if you have 2 engineers repairing it, and it ruins certain locations, such as the long tunnel of CP_B on GravelPit.

  • @CommFT It might be kinda overpowered, but without it engi is kinda underpowered in competetive play, i mean any competetive player can easily take down a lvl 3 sentry, also it adds a new style of gamplay to the engie called rocket engeneering :)

  • @Mountain3601 with the wrangler the sentry has got like 600hp, imagine that being repaired by a second engy. whilst the other one is shooting.

  • What weapon limitations are there in competitive tf2?

  • @Pogiforce

Natascha, Wrangler, and I think maybe the Sandman.

  • Teams are in constant communication with each other, spys would be next to useless

  • I used to play spy in competitive 8v8 matches and did very well.

What do you think about spy in competitive play.

  • Whattt no spy ?

  • I am familiar with competitive TFC, but I haven't played competitive TF2 yet. It looks a lot better than pub TF2...

  • I actually have the same problem as Tekmaster99, but I (think that I) am good with the spy... According to my friends, spies rarely appear on competitive matches, could you give me some tips?

  • Is Offclassing as an Engineer allowed in matches?

  • @8B6EB8 Yea, definitely allowed. Wrangler is Banned, Engi is not. Going crazy and running engie to mid is frowned upon. Running Engi to protect last can be a great decision to make. In 6v6 it just doesn't have enough strengths to justify it's use most of the time. Highlander Engie is pretty fun :)

  • @CommFT Is the gunslinger allowed then?

  • @CommFT why is wrangler banned?

  • @oliball123 Because it's OP as shit

  • TF2 is complete shit. 99.99% of the pub servers are intended to force one side to win by refusing to use autobalance at all. So fuck you all. Lotus servers, Multiplay etc. Go burn in hell. It's impossible to enjoy this game unless you happen to join the team filled with clantards. And even then it's not funny when you realise the huge ammount of inbalance.

Fuck you all, 10 times over. Go screw yourself.

  • @Gird3r Then go on a NON CLAN SERVER such as UKCS and NoHeroes.

  • @Gird3r

    A. GET GUD

    B. Find servers that are good, you have a favorites list for a reason.

  • 76,666th view O_O

Very nice video though, I learned quite a lot about TF2 from it

  • I was wondering, were would a beginner join a Comp. team?

  • @SgtSmilies Probably not, even low teams are filled with pubstars.

  • Love the Psytrance you've got going in this vid. Good stuff and great for new players.

  • Is there a way for the average joe to watch live competitive games like you are doing? Where would one go to spectate some live competition?

  • i think the new soildier weapon is perfect for roaming soldiers and should be allowed in comp play

  • Comment removed

  • CAN'T SKIP ADS FFS

  • How do you remove the HUD as spectator?

  • @AegisKleais so true noobs always seem to pick the projectile classes and couldn't hit the broad side of a heavy to save there life. they should play the medic and let the people who know how to kill play the classes.

  • I play heavy very consistently and am very rarely beaten as that class. I can play soldiers well and demoman with a little bit of effort, but overall I usually end up ruling pub games. If I was to look to a competitive setting, would I have a place on any decent teams as a nearly full time heavy? Or would it just be better to be as a scout/ soldier and then be set to switch to heavy on defense?

Also I can see the heavy class being considerably more useful in CTF, is this true for the most part?

  • @Tekmaster99 Some lower level teams run a full time heavy, and that tactic can be effective, but there are so many situations where the heavy isn't effective (mid-fights on anything but Well) that when you get to higher levels of play a full-time heavy is never played. With the Gloves of Running Urgently, that might see some changes. That item is yet to be implemented by leagues though. I'd suggest learning the other classes, but you can still keep your hvy dream alive!

  • goddammit they patched the ad skip

  • 0:01

  • Great video btw you have any tips for where I can begin playing competitive tf2 games. i am very new and would play in the lowest possible leauge i.e div 6, bt do you know anywhere I can play mixes at all?

  • @reidmarsh TF2Lobby.com is fantastic, although the quality of games is sometimes hit or miss. It's really the best way for new players to find 6v6 games though. There is also the occasional highlander game going on there. Besides that, find a group of players or a team to play with! Can be difficult when you're brand new...

  • @PokemadKid This is an stv demo I'm watching. With sv_cheats 1 enabled, I have this in my config:

    alias "+slomo" "demo_timescale .25"

    alias "-slomo" "demo_timescale 1"

    bind "alt" "+slomo"

  • This hat simulator is very optimized for competitive play.

    All hats are completely balanced.

  • @DoctorYumYums i dunno it kinda ruins the win/loose princip

  • @DoctorYumYums epic win

  • @DoctorYumYums "all hats are completely balanced"

    Polycount

  • @DoctorYumYums only fags play for hats.

  • Lastly, you also completely ignored my personal favorite class, the pyro. While not very effective at long distances, a single pyro can make a charging team turn tail and run, screaming for a medic who's probably already dead (assuming your spy and/or sniper is doing his job). The pyro has the unique ability to inflict huge amounts of damage after his/her death, with the players who fought him/her still burning long after the encounter. He/she is also the only effective counter for enemy spies.

  • @WhateverDesu I am guessing you have never played anything but 24\7 instaspawn 32 man 2fort.

  • @BluntMetroid lol nice one

  • @liufa9 man i completely forgot about this guy's retard rant, thanks for reminding me :D

  • @WhateverDesu how about reading video description/title carefully before posting shit, everybody who plays tf2 on the pc already knows? 2 Soldiers, 2 Scouts, 1 Demo and 1 Medic is the standard setup for league matches. standard! fact! There are certain situations, where top-teams exchange 1 scout or soldier for a heavy or sniper, but nvm. just watch league matches and you get the idea. But someone who wrote more than 5 comments about sth. he doesnt understand.....

  • @WhateverDesu oh and in case u didnt know: the demo is the main damage class in this game, cause his stickies and pipes have no damagefalloff over distance like the soldiers rockets (and every other class` weapons in the game)

  • @LosLangkos Rocket damage does not fall off over distance. Only the distance between the rocket explosion and the enemy affects its damage dealt.

  • @almightybob101 100% sure that the further you are away, the less damage is dealt.

  • @konrTF The further you are from the explosion, yes. But it doesn't matter how far the rocket travels to get there.

If you are hit direct in the face by a rocket, you will take the same damage, regardless of whether the person who fired it is across the room or across the map. You can check the damage formula on the TF2 wiki if you want, for rockets there is no distance decay except the normal splash radius decay.

  • @konrTF

Hmm. I just tested it against a bot on nucleus and it seems I was wrong. My apologies to both you and LosLangkos.

  • Another class you totally ignored would be the spy. Besides his obvious uses for keeping track of enemy movements, His backstab can instant kill anyone who isnt ubercharged. A group caught unaware may loose their medic, soldier, demoman and/or heavy before they know what hit them. He is also the only class to have a fair chance at eliminating enemy sentry guns by himself. If done with good timing, you can rush in after your spy takes out the defenses before they have a chance to recover.

  • Moving on, the sniper is the precision unit of any team, and having one to keep your opponents heads down is a big point on your favor, he can do more damage at a range than any other class, and can one-hit-kill a medic before he can use his ubercharge or take out the demoman leaving sticky bombs all over the capture point (eliminating the bombs without setting them off).

  • Coming back to the medic, his ubercharge is amazing, but hardly his best and/or only use. At the start of a match, the scouts and rocket jumping soldiers rush the point (with sticky-jumping demomen if anyone on the team has mastered it) but if the opposing team has a medic following a heavy (who has 450 hp when over-healed) he will usually mop up any enemies on the point (who've probably already been wounded by opposing soldiers/scouts/demomen/whatever) and take the central point with his medic

  • Also, you say the ubercharge is the most important aspect of the medic, but you totally ignored the class that the uber is usually required to defeat, the engineer. his sentry gun at level 3 is the most devastating defense in the game, especially if the engineer stays near it to repair it under fire. It usually takes an ubercharge to take it down unless a demoman manages to sneak past the rest of the team and drops a load of explosives on it.

  • As for the scout, he's fast, he can double jump, and his scattergun is death at point blank range, but he has practically no hp (125, 110 if you are using is unlockable bat, the "sandman"). The heavy rips him to shreds without trying, even at a fair distance. The heavy may be the slowest moving class of the game, but with 300 hp and a gun that chews up any and all opponents that try to get past him, he's much more suited to being the "bettering ram" of your team.

  • The soldier, while he does tend to be one of the first on the scene, he is not the offensive wall you make him out to be. rocket jumping is difficult to master to players still getting used to the controls, sticky jumping even more so. Demoman traps are powerful, but killing the demoman removes them, and there are several ways to trick him into setting it off prematurely.

  • I don't normally go on rants like this but what the heck. This is a horrible introduction to the game for new players. Besides the fact that teams can have up to 12 players each, and class limitations are based on what server you're connected to, you don't represent the classes fairly.

  • @WhateverDesu this is an introduction to competitive tf2, not pub play

  • wanna hear a great joke? competitive tf2

  • @RamboSechs I don't get it.

  • @RamboSechs Don't ya' mean: Wanna hear something funny? Competitive TF2

  • how do you have so much of the arms showing when u view someone/ is anyone able to spectate tf2 league matches?

  • This was a great introductory movie, thank you!

  • You forgot to address the Highlander version of Competitive TF2. That's the only version I play since I LOVE the spy too much.

  • @DarkZerkerX highlanders just too pubby

  • What is the soundtrack of this video? I like the fluffy base.

  • Damm gr8 gameplay,music and description.....

    p.s. where i can buy this song?^^

  • keep up the videos! they're really helping new players and its always nice to see such videos even though most stuff said is quite common in the competitive scene.

  • keep up the videos! they're really helping new players and its always nice to see such videos even though most stuff said is quite common in the competitive scene.

  • Team fortress is an amazing game thats CONSTANTLY being updated and improved. New weapons, new hats, new maps, all for free.

  • This is the greatest game I ever played ... and the only game I stopped playing simply because it took too much time from me.

  • the pc version looks amazing, valve's x box "version" of tf2 is the biggest rip off ever, I hate valve.

  • @stxlandil It wasn't Valve's fault they couldn't update X-Box Orange Box. Shift your blame elsewhere, AKA Microsoft :/ 360 still had a solid community despite lack of updates.

  • @CommFT yeah basically MS is such a dick and wants all DLC to be paid DLC so they can get a cut of the cake. Valve had to go through lots of shit for that one free update they managed to get out last time. Not likely they will get to do it again. PS3 gets Steam and that is a signed agreement with Sony to let Valve release updates as much as they want. All free!

  • @saivert I'm keeping my fingers crossed they re-release TF2 w/Portal 2 to increase its audience. And as a preventative measure against people complaining about Portal 2 being short on content (not my opinion, but even if it is expanded from Portal 1, people will still say it).

  • @CommFT fuu man i still play on xbox :(

  • @robertman369 I don't intend any disrespect to XBox players, I introduced one of my best friends to TF via the Xbox. It's just a shame you guys aren't getting the fully updated experience. Thanks for loving TF2, hope you make it to PC sometime. (Or PS3? Portal 2 shipping with steamworks...)

  • @CommFT Lol the funny thing about that comment is i was about to play tf2 on 360 then remembered "no updates... gay" and went and bought it on pc

  • @CommFT What do you mean btw ps3 portal shipping with steamworks.. ?

  • @reidmarsh Thats what Valve announced, it should mean that the PS3 version of Portal 2 will be fully updated along the same lines of the PC version... I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they'll ship an updated TF2 with it, but no word from valve on it.

  • @stxlandil The Xbox version lacks the nifty upgrades because Microsoft wanted to charge players for these content updates. Thank Valve that they did not, for Valve doesn't try to tap their community for money like Ubisoft, Treyarch, and Infinity Ward.

  • @stxlandil dont blame valve, its because of microsoft that it sucks, they wanna pay for updates and valve wouldnt agree on that

  • @stxlandil 1. Get TF2 on steam (PC)

    2. Blame microsoft. They make the game makers pay to update a game.

  • @stxlandil I hate xbox n PS

  • @stxlandil Valve isnt responsible for the X360 rip off. its fucking EA! Thats why you have to pay for every fucking shit. GREEDY BASTARDS!

  • @stxlandil Indeed, it really is microsofts fault that valve didn't update the console version. Hopefully with the steam updates getting included with portal 2 on the ps3, maybe some time the PS3 will start getting the pc updates for TF2, but it doesn't look like the xbox will ever see them.

  • @BloodiedHorror Valve has said that the consoles have already reached they're memory limit with the vanilla TF2.

  • I spasmed involuntarily when you said "YAAAOOOO".

    Seriously, stop that.

  • @SCRuner5h Involuntary spasm? Are you sure it's not a good one?

  • Scouts die all the time, but thats ok, WOHOOHOO! BONK!

  • dude nice ur video has been noticed on the official tf2 website :) (under the hedding TWO QUICK NOTES)

  • Good video, wonder when it came out.

    August 13, 2010

    wat

  • Vote Up if sent by TF2Blog!

  • nice vid, although CP_badlands inst as popular as it used to....should try PL,PLR,or other CP maps

  • This doesn't look competitive.. It just looks like an absolutely regular game with class restrictions. It did seem to be a good game though with at least somewhat experienced players. But I guess I do spend a good part of my games semi-battle surfing so I guess I'm not one to talk.

  • @rockcabbage

    someone be trollin

  • @shinuftw I wasn't trolling purposely. This is a good basic introduction to TF2, nothing I would consider "Competitive" but a good game, I guess.

  • @rockcabbage I think Competitive is meant to define the game type, as opposed to the player's skill, in this context. Anyone can play competitively (assuming they find the right server/clan).

  • @rockcabbage Check out the full eXtv's covering the LAN finals from the ESEA-I season. I was just messing around with my camera work on this match, but watch the other vids to see a more focused viewing experience, and amazing battles between skilled players.

  • hopefully we can have updates for xbox360 soon

  • @remember918

I doubt thats going to happen.
