um you DO know you could only use 3ds max and combustion, the rules specifically said you could only use free ware and what autodesk gave you. no cs4 or whatever. you could use gimp or inkscape, no photoshop.
i think the reason is because everyone doesnt have photoshop because its so expensive. i KNOW you can get it other ways tho
Hello thewizzard99, let me clarify the issue for you. The team used the 30 day free trial of all adobe products, which are free for all teams to access should they chose to. I am the mentor for team 342's Animation Team and it is very important to us to follow all rules and criteria and compete in a fair manor.
Q: Can we use third party product products to help create our animation?
A: The goal of the Autodesk Design Competition is to use the Autodesk products provided to create the animation. Third party products, plug-ins, enhancements can only be used if they are free of charge and open for any team to use. This allows an even playing field for all teams to participate in the design competition.
yea and 3D animaton is easier and safer to make than real life video.. and 2d animations like *excuse my language* sick figures on crack <--- is SOOOOOOO funny and it was made with pivot
lol i know i used to work on pivot which is actually harder than MAX because its actually frame by frame... it took me 2 hours to made a 3000 video which turned out to be 30 secs..
but like this model of a person in my perspective doesnt look good if they were a constant user of MAX like our model was lifelike but its great for a first time user... if your ever on turbosquid look up grahamwich which is our head animator just look at some of his products one example is he made a life like ipod glowing screen and all in about 20 mins but its not on turbo squid, he is one of the best texture artists that ive personally seen
ok, well think of it like this. 3D animation gives us a chance to make things different from real life to be able to show emphasis on things we wouldn't normally be be able to film.
Not only that but there are lots of different styles of art and animation. Be careful not to judge solely on what your trying to strive for.
Youtube the 2D animation "Rejected - Don Hertzfeldt" An animation that uses simple elements but is brilliant. Stick figures have never been so fun :)
all aspects of animation, we have 2 jrs and me... im the animator though since thats what im good at but also cookie does animating too since he is the head animator.. and we say animator as in all parts of the animation
and out of all the other videos this is the best ive seen so far all the other ones look like no work was put into them, which programs did u use btw we used Max, Audocity, photoshop and a plug-in called Fume FX
WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i didnt see urs yet sorry about that i saw it after i posted the comment lulz urs is actually REALLY good except it didnt really do along with the safety share it
yea im a freshman but ive worked with the program for a while and our head animator has worked with it for 3 years and only students use it and the mentors one really only does build and the other one is basically drive coach so yea it is hard... and yea Premiere wasnt cooperating with me because im personally a video editor/animator so i have the CS4 master collection but on our computers it wouldnt take my disk and thats really good for ur first video ill post a link to our vid from 2 yrs ago
Nah I was just messing with you. Just be weary as to what you say in public. Every animation team out there put effort into storyboarding, modeling, and animating. Just because they have less experience than you with animation doesn't mean they didn't put work into it. Any finished animation is a great accomplishment :D. We should be encouraging them rather than telling them their faults. Premiere and photoshop are great by the way :D. Have any of you used After Effects at all?
yea i have i have the CS4 master collection ... and my other comment didnt post but yea im actually a video editor so i use after effects and vegas... and all my saying is that ppl could do better and some teams dont put the time and effort in and still expect it to win while other teams like mine expically put tons of work in since we only have 3 members on this animation doing all the work. and point out the faults is a good thing because its something they can get better at and fix like i
That is incorrect. Please look in the information box where it clearly states this was made for the Safety animation not the visualization competition. Thank you.
Let it be noted that if you leave a comment with foul language, I'll remove your comment. I have no problem with critiques but this get reviewed by our team and I will not allow inappropriate language.
The students were going with the theme "safety, share it!" posted on the first website. I'm not sure I understand what your saying? Can you elaborate?
Yeah.. Hey we were looking through previous submissions when we were getting ready for this and watched your Dean Headroom video. Well done! It was very good!

we actually had a bit of a hard time because now we only have 3 animators including me
bluedrago505 3 years ago
When you say 'animator' are you referring to just animating or are you referring to putting together all the aspects of animation?

We used 3d studio max, photoshop for the signs, and Premiere to edit it together. All the textures are procedural except for the signs.
thanks for commenting :)

Nice, someone rated it a 1 star... probably because they're from another team.
It's ok, it still made it to the top 6 out of 85 animations at the FIRST Robotics safety animation Competition.

It's ok...they're just poor sports.
