  • Do you use gain as part of the locater method?

  • Gain is very similar to sensitivity. If you have a large area and are trying to find the line set the gain on high. Once you narrow in on the line you want to follow turn the gain down to reduce interference from other lines.

  • I more familiar with metro tech's cable locater system. And the gain is automatic. I figure when I start locating, I compare the gain from where I know I'm directly over the cable to where I am locating it. If the gain stays about the same, then I feel more confident that I'm on the right cable. I wish I understood gain better to improve my cable locating in congested areas especially.
