(just my opinion) i think she started all of this.

I grew up watching both Sailor Moon and Tokyo Mew Mew, plus similar shows, and I never thought they were wrong or harmful just because they show the outlines of a female body for two seconds. Its interesting how everyone except Ichigo kisses there little thing them puts it where there mark is, Mint (back) Lettuce (chest) Pudding (forehead) and Zakuro (stomach) and they also all have something that represents there transformation, Ichigo (sparkles) Mint (feathers) Lettuce (bubbles) Pudding (ribbons) and Zakuro (fire). All of there weapons are instruments like a bell, tamborine, cassanets, harp (Mint's bow) and i thing that Zakuro has a microphone before it transforms into a cross.

@luckyxtrick They were ripped off of Sailor Moon. Even Mia Ikumi the creator of this series said that Tokyo Mew Mew was inspired greatly from the Sailor Moon series. Plainest point: Sailor Moon stuck her foot up in midair during her transformations just like Ichigo did for hers.

I really wish that they upgraded their transformations as the series progressed, like in Mermaid Melody. It could be an effect because of how often they use their powers and they mix with the DNA of the animals. You know, they could have made mint's outfit have the feather detail at :53 and the beautiful wings at 1:06. I think it would've been really cool because their outfits are pretty basic. Even though I <3 Tokyo Mew Mew forever my first anime! <3 :)

They have tails because they were infused with the DNA of some of the world's endangered animals.

And I'm not too sure why the creator gave all of them food names- maybe she was hungry- but even the bad guys have food names like Pie, Tart and Kish. I think it has alot to do with the fact they work in a cafe as their normal selves.
