  • @kripkiller102889 I'm afraid it is some cultivar of Passiflora caerulea, and makes little orange fruits that often are hollow. I've read that the fruit of this variety tastes similar to blackberries when they mature properly, but I've never tried to eat one. The suggestion that this plant could capture insects is very intriguing, but this is the first I've heard of it.

  • Is there a way to make sure they don't get this big?

  • @DbaBro1 *Don't plant it (if you're worried about controlling it). I guess you can keep it trimmed to size, but you must also deal with constantly pulling up runners that sprout as much as 50 feet away from the main plant. This IS an invasive plant that is very difficult to control.

  • @Shooter12point7 Would growing it in a pot be a good idea?

  • @DbaBro1 Mine started out in a pot! I made the mistake of sitting it on the bare ground, and that's how the vine spread the way it did. You might be able to grow it in a pot without invasion if you don't have it where the roots can escape through the drainage holes.

  • @Shooter12point7 Thanks for the advice

  • @DbaBro1

put in a pot. i use a 12 inch pot (wide and deep) on a 2 foot metal trellis. train it with weights if you are ambitious or simply weave it in and out of itself... make sure the pot doesnt sit in the same spot on the ground too long cuz the roots can possibly grow through the drain holes into the earth. i spin my pot every to every 3 days to ensure it doesnt get lopsided growing only one direction to the sun. being so compact wintering it inside is a breeze! can still bloom indoors!

  • @TheMsSage yeah, again with the holes. put on a wooden deck or on a table in a pot or put a saucer under it.... no wandering roots!!!

  • Does this plant attract bees? I just worry about killer bees hiding in the vines.

  • @sandrapw67 Yes, it does attract lots and lots of Honey and other bees. Never seen any killer ones in it though, which is fine by me. I took one of my best pictures of a bee on one of these flowers.

  • Is it still the original plant or has it broken off into new self containing roots/plants?

  • @bohemiacat At the time of this video the original plant was still alive, but was surrounded by lots of runners too.

  • mine it will be like that in 4 more years I planted mine last year

  • Ohhh my goodness! I am so jealous! How beautiful!!

These have been my favorite flower since I first seen these as a child. I have about 5 acres now & I am in the process of transplanting these all around the property along with transplants of the "star jasmine" vine. What a beautiful job you have done!! WoW!!

  • @TammieStarlene Thanks! This is one of my favorite flowers as well. Beware though, - it can become invasive on your property. But that's hardly a problem if they are your favorite flower!

  • Wow! I have 15 of these growing!! I got my seeds from a fruit I bought at my local supermarket, but because I live so far north I doubt mine will make it through the winter.

Have you made it into tea yet?

  • The music is so epic...

  • wow, great vine you have there. It seems to be happy. I had no idea that they got that large.

  • Thanks. I'm quite certain it could take over the entire world if allowed to. Well, the parts that don't get too cold, anyway.

  • How do you harvest them? Not just the fruit but I heard you can dry their leaves and stems.

  • I have no idea, sorry. The kind of Passionflower I have is probably only ornamental. It makes some little orange fruits that are usually filled with air instead of pulp or seeds. I've never heard of using the leaves for anything, but they might make a great tea. LOL.

  • @Shooter12point7 You can make them into tea and they're supposed to help insomnia or other things, I think. I think the same effects go for smoking it.

  • Hey I was wondering i just planted two weeks ago sweet and giant granadilla. DO you know how long it takes for them to sprout

  • Sorry, I've no experience with those plants. You could do a Google or other search for care of those plants.

  • Kinda like the Energizer Buddy!! Beautiful flowers you have there, passi's are my favorite.

  • WHOA!! My mom's BF told me that they can grow like crazy and take over huge trees... now I'm worried... I planted one in a small pot like yours and am leading it up the post of our deck patio... I'm going to have to watch out! No flowers yet. Cool video-- thanks for posting!

  • Wow that vid made it feel like summer

  • Eat some of it.

  • This kind isn't edible. ;)

  • what the hell O_O

  • It's a plant. :|

  • No...Seriously -_-?

It is fascinating how it grew so much in just 2 years!

  • For real. That thing will take over the world if I let it!

  • he he it looks like weed
