56 secound's boot time on your 4211, well it really depends on how much stuff you have in it when i first got my laptop it was mega fast and it took like 25 secounds after installing stuff and putting files the next day, it was around 1minute 5sec
The 4212 has a smaller screen only 8.9" they are competing more with acer aspire one and eeepc... It isn't based in msi anymore it's based on elonex i think
The 4212 has a much better graphics chip, about twice as fast as the one in the 4213 and much more advanced (DX10.1, unified shaders ect compared to DX9 and no hardware vertex shader for the chip in the 4213).
this isn't as good a buy as i thought, the battery sucks.. the eee 901 is simlar price and spec, 6600mah battery and less memory, but it is ssd so i think the 901 is a better portable laptop
hi, i was wondering whether the ram is upgradable, and if you can under/overclock the processer? Also can this handle video streaming, especially winamp???? Thanks
Hi, Thanks for the review. I'm just concerned about the battery life. i suppose I could always buy a 6 cell battery but then it's more cost compared to the Asus 901's battery life. Can't decide! Asus 901 or Advent 4211. It's a shame there are no low cost 3G enabled laptops yet to free me from my dongle.
Thanks! please can you advise if it meets Dragon NaturallySpeaking requirements? thanks!Intel® Pentium® / 1 GHz processor (eg, Pentium® M, Pentium® 4), or equivalent AMD® processor - Faster processors will yield faster performance; 512 MB RAM; 1 GB free hard disk space; Microsoft® Windows® XP (SP1 or higher) Home and Professional, 2000 (SP4 or higher), Vista (32-bit); Creative® Labs Sound Blaster® 16 or equivalent sound card supporting 16-bit recording; CD-ROM drive (required for installation)
What I don't like is the thick border frame around the screen. Makes the screen smaller than it is or more claustrophobic.
I like the two tone look of the book.
Good idea to arrange the icons on the top.
Very disappointed with the 'power brick' charger. And because the three cell is the only battery supplied with the machine you're going to be relying on the charger alot more than if you had the six cell battery.
useful review- thanks- think I'm gonna go ahead and get one, but, can anyone tell me how you can load word onto it... cos it has no cd built in...? (Probably very dumb question I know.)
MSI Wind has 100Mbit network and it is REEL shame they put 3-cell battery in Atom-powered mini-notebook. It is design flaw but that is where Msi will make money.. On people who will going to buy extra 6-cell or 9-cell battery..
Pretty shameful 3-cell battery for such a nice machine. I also HATE 100Mbit lan instead of Standard Gigabit. Also, touch-screen should be nice.
same, I think I'm gunna get this instead, or just wait for the 'proper' Wind to come out. The burden of the EEE 901 is its keyboard, and since I'm gunna be using it mostly for word documents and typing, thats a BIG issue. (and the Wind is cooler ;) )
True enough - there are a lot of ultra portables coming out now.. but only the Asus Eee PC is available in Canada.. albeit still very hard to find though (only available through two large online retailers and a handful of specialty computer stores in the large cities). The MSI Wind and the Acer Aspire One were supposed to hit the shelves on July 1st, and the ETA for ship date on the large sites is still 3-5 weeks... aye.
Cool cool. Thanks for the review. I'm right now torn between the MSI Wind and the Acer Aspire One...
The only thing I don't like about the Wind is the HDD, I would much prefer a SSD even if there would be less storage - I would be using the machine for school anyways, and word documents only take up so much room.
The battery issue is a big one.. I would've liked a 6 cell battery as well.
How available are these in the UK? I know that it isn't available in Canada at all yet.
im gettin it for my b-day

dil650 3 years ago
No. Netbook's don't have a cd/dvd drive.
If you ever want to re-install xp ( or any other OS ), you need to get the files and put them on a USB stick and make the USB stick bootable.

How much does the power supply weigh? Anyone know where you can buy a 6 cell battery for the Advent 4211?
easi50 3 years ago
FYI: MSI Wind U100 and Advent 4211 use the same battery.

MSI Does give you a 6 cell battery now a days.
The colour wich you said was a "scrapyard" is only available on the ADVENT(uk) version.
The Ram is upgradable to 2 GB, I believe you get 1 slot. So you can plug in one stick.
Nice pants btw, other then that its a good revieuw.

I live in the UK. Soon going home and want to take one of these with me.
BIG QUESTION>
Can the Advent 4211 by any means be worse than a "proper" MSI Wind? PLEASE ANSWER ANYONE.
I ask cause I have no idea about both trademarks. I have so far used Toshiba.
And with the Advent in PC WORLD it seems I can ask for more hard disk...
dadaboemia 3 years ago
hi, just watched a thorough comparison of the two on youtube and they're identical except advent is cheaper and a little lighter.

A simple solution is to use an external cd drive, there are other ways of over coming this problem though.
