  • Estupendo!!!

  • impresionante

  • This is the best sounding version of this solo I've yet seen. And Ricky squezehead, it sounds better than if the hairs were flat. Flat hairs would have too much torque and would ruins that ethereal ponticello tone on the open g. This inspires me to learn more bass

  • plz keep yr bow on flat hair

  • ...the first time i heard Francois Rabbath was in the early 70's in the Dutch tv program "Voor de Vuist weg", presented by the recently passed away Willem Duys. The music FR played struck me and made me run to the local recordshop the next day. I'm happy to have purchased the vinyl LPentitled: Francois Rabbath au Palais des Sports. FR plays 11 compositions of his own and 3 JS Bach compositions. Marchel Blanche and or Andre Ceccarelli play the drums on some of his compositions. Raybajo

  • That was amazing. The ponticello sends you to another world.

I would love to play this soon.

  • This sound goes directly from the ear into my brain and keeps on swinging there. Great vibrations

  • Great finale

  • Nice oriental song :)

  • Hermoso

  • sans intéret

  • this reminds me a little, in some places, of a piece played by Eum Se-na on the gayageum: watch?v=uIF6UItETiU

  • I've heard this played many times and love the piece. Your left hand pizzicato is especially well done! You can be very proud of this version. Nicely recorded as well! Anyone interested in the music for this will find it at Liben publishing. While much of Rabbath's music sounds improvisatory, Frank Proto has been kind enough to transcribe Rabbath's music into readable and fun pieces for us mortals.Well played Toni!

  • This makes me want to learn contrasbass so bad!!!!!! :D

  • I imagine this song playing during a really dark and depressing scene from a sad movie.

  • Sounds Great Tony!! : )

  • Beatiful :D

  • That was really amazing! Almost spot on intonation, amazing sound... I did not know this piece, but I like it.

  • if you do it with a bit more rhythm or swing in your strumming i think it would be great

  • @horbergaren how about YOU do it with a bit more rhythm?

  • @gevantassa well i'm not the one playing the violin

  • @horbergaren lol that only shows you how lost you are. This is not a violin

  • @gevantassa yeah i know it is a contrabass, but i had forgotten, and when i saw your reply to my comment i only saw the picture of it and asumed it was a violin

  • The barnish of your bass is awesome. I love you bow. The sound you make is beautiful. The tempo is perfect. The interpretation couldn't be better. The Video is wordless.

  • very good, very cool. Thanks a lot. Hope to meet you one day!!!!! nmb (no more bottesini!)

  • Outstanding! This is such a sensitive performance, and I specialy love the bits where you accelerate it just slightly and just for a few notes. You really create a trance. Now, how did you ad the reverb?

  • I saw Rabbath playing this live at a Master Class in Adelaide. Absolutely mind blowing. He is a wonderful man known for playing in his underwear!

  • you can hear the sound of a didgeridoo in this piece.

  • intenso

  • very, very good playing. Went outside of the music a bit but it adds a nice touch. This is a great piece for any bass player. I can play this, but not as good as you. Keep on Raga soloing

  • It is improvised!

  • ... no, i dont believe it is

  • some kinds of india style.

  • it is! rabbath wrote it after being inspired by the indian raga, which is a very spititual dance of meditation.

  • where and how long will it take me to find this piece and play it ?

  • The Lemur catalog has it (maybe it's in the set of short pieces by Rabbath), and I'm sure you can purchase it online, as well. Now, how long is it gonna take you to be able to play it? Well, that's entirely up to you!

  • merveilleux, si vous savez parler à votre femme comme à votre instrument ça promet: vraiment bravo !

  • Quel commentaire sot...

  • cool video but if you 're from greece and read the title it sounds like "dick dass for solo contrabass" (poucha sounds exactly like the greek word for dick loool)

  • Hahahaha! I know what you mean. In Costa Rica "Pucha" became the "polite" way of saying "Puta," which is basicaly "Whore" or "Bitch."

  • Grrrrrrreat!

  • Nice dude.

  • fucking beautiful...mezmarizing...I absolutely love it

  • Sounds great :) There's another version on YouTube played live by Volkan Orhon watch?v=BQMyUINKIog

  • WOW. that was just.... WOW.

this is officialy my favourite video on youtube.

  • ..... wow?

  • Epic.

This is the first time I've heard this piece, so I don't know what the original sounds like, but this was really good.

  • that was amazing.

  • are you supposed to play with the bow sideways like that? dont get mad i'm a saxophone player not a string bass player.

  • haha its cool man

    no not typically

but rabbath was infamous for calling bassists to do not so typical things such as this

in my part is marked sul tasto and edge of bow

  • yes

  • that's so cool!

  • EXTREMELY Cool!!!

  • By god, that was sexah.

  • please, show us the left hand !!!!!

    how do you do it?

    great playing....keep going!!!

(and please show in other video the left hand..)

  • sweet

  • i have seen rabbath in concert about 3 times and going to see him again in about a week, you just cant play it as good as he can. he is a fantastic bass player.

  • well duh, he wrote the damn piece using his own bow technique, playing technique and even his own modified way of playing with the crooked end pin. It's not possible to beat a person at his own game that they invented.

  • I'm sorry but have you ever seen or heard Rabbath play this piece? The uneven stroke, point of contact and interpretation suggest not. This piece is meant to be about the exploration of sound colour through the manipulation of the harmonics creating an imitation of the Sitar. And you missed out the Tabla effect created by left hand pizz.

  • Wow.

    I'm favoriting this.

    I love it.

  • OMG! I love it! L-O-V-E!! I wish I could play like this! Wonderful! I love the music too, it takes me away from this world to a better place... BEAUTIFUL!

  • nice Pizz and Arco, soulful tune, like a lament,

    Keeep Rockiiiin

  • So I take it you follow the rabbath method?

  • thanx, just do my best and enjoy very much playing the instrument!

  • He did this when he was at Ball State. Very awesome!
