Awesome video! Santa Clara, 1999 and Phantom, 2003, two of the best shows....this is only missing the ending of 2000 Cadets (who totally slaughtered the Cavaliers but ended up with a tie).
why do so many hate on BD so much? and i think the cadets had 2000 all to themselves. :) but Niagara IS a great show. AND Phantom 03 is THE way to end a show, is it not?!
@winemac238 It's easy to melt faces off when you get to park and bark or walk slowly like Crown or Phantom (and often BD). Hence why the Cavies?Cadets are almost never the best brass ensembles.
did anyone else stop paying attention when the blue devils started to play and then get scared have to death when you get waked up by phantom's amazing brick wall of sound?? haha
cadets 2003 was a good ending. harmonic journey had only a good beginning and ending. that's what it was remembered for. 2003 and (007) 2004 cavs ending id pretty epic. but then again my knowledge is only from 2002-2005 when i actually was in marching band and watched dci
My small list of DCI closer favorites is Madison 95, Phantom 08, Star 93 and I still love Phantoms 03 at the top. Those all made me jump out of my seat. But any of the 2006 or later stuff has me kinda bummed. I don't get excited about DCI like I used to. I still love it but nobody gives me a reason to jump up and cheer. DCI caliber is way better than 10 years ago but there's something missing. Loved your choices!
It says a lot that Phantom can march sloppy as fuck in 2003 and still manage to pull off the greatest show I've ever seen. I actually cried when I saw the end of that show the first time. I knew I was seeing something special.
@Marchingfreak123 hey friend, you should have been on the field during that roar!!!! i was a rook out in 99, in the guard, it was such an amazing exchange of energy, love and entertainment, nothing can compare, unless we get a gold medal!!!
Madison's Jesus Christ Superstar is absolutely epic. Listening to that recording, the audience was frenetic. We're talking screaming in parts, applause in the middle of tunes. The entire show told a story, musically. Stirring and haunting, and I'm Buddhist.
@heywhatsername92 I love them just because of that. Ticheli's my favorite compser. my band got to work with him when we played Angels in the Architecture. he's really a gret guy.
I'm not, and never HAVE been a huge Madison Scouts fan...but, have to admit in 99 when they hit that cross and star at the end of the JC Superstar show (and as evidenced by the crowd reaction on this clip) it was a special moment. Really big! There aren't many of those fan nutso moments recently in DCI. Too bad, really. Was Madison the cleanest, best product on the field? Nah...but they always made people come out and buy tickets. Anyway..my old school two cents :) Enjoy all!---SAFye
Because they are insane at what they do. I am not a hxc BD fan, but you have to give them their props. Phantom has always had a problem with visual especially.
Now if Cavies Won Every Year with a Perfect Score in Visual I could see you saying that. They aren't the best out there. They rely WAY too much on visuals in my opinion.
don't hate corps. Get out there and do it yourself, and pay the money and put the time into it like they did. If you have done all these things, why put down someone when you could appreciate their art for what it is? grow up. drum corps is about the fellowship and comraderie, not about weak shows.
Every corps has had shows they regret I marched, I have been on a staff as well. The things you talk about are the things that carry on after the competitive fun and games are over But every corps director I have come in contact with has a show that went thud and they say it all the time I am going to assume that you marched cause it seems like you get it... if you don't like the competitive stuff fine but it seems hard to me to deny that the competitve stuff is a huge part of it like it or not
Actually dude, Vanguard has marched dot for a long time. Myron Rosander just writes absurdly difficult drill. Not to mention they're brass is absolutely wailing while trying to execute that drill.
I don't know about "always", but in this clip you would be correct. It looks insanely difficult, to be sure, but is also very sloppy. I have seen other years where Vanguard didn't look visually appealing. '91 was very sloppy looking, but that year it looked to be the drill, not the execution. To someone who grew up watching them in the 70s, it is weird seeing them sloppy. They were always the benchmark for precision "M&M".
