  • For best quad feature im gonna say Cadets 2000

  • One of my fave. Dci videos. Personally I think Scouts did malaguena better, but cadets rocked it too.

  • i wish phantom could've nailed that drill at the end too...

  • Those fucking PR 2003 mellos. BALLZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

  • where is vanguard '04?

  • WHY DO THEY KEEP TAKING PR'S '03 SHOW OFF YOUTUBE?!

  • The ending to the 2003 cavaliers show is my favorite of these.

  • Cavies totally SOLD the Machine concept.

  • DAMN! why aren't shows this good anymore?! It's all about being perfect and technical...just let loose and have some fun!!

  • If you take out the dancing girls and guys of a questionable sexuality all you have left Is just a series of chords, where's the tune?

  • @Damoskinos chords/choral like pieces and then a rebirth moment usually make a great ending =]

  • Save the best for last ;D

  • best percussion feature? cadets 05 and cadets 11 :D

  • Awesome video! Santa Clara, 1999 and Phantom, 2003, two of the best shows....this is only missing the ending of 2000 Cadets (who totally slaughtered the Cavaliers but ended up with a tie).

  • I thought they were playing Nyan Cat at 4:06 haha

  • @XxKDLasswellxX That's exactly what I thought! AH! Haha.

  • first live show i ever seen was when phantom was practicing at a local college, they were doing drill work

but that night the first time they started playing...felt like i was punched in the mouth by manny pac

  • Jesus Vanguard. Bring this kind of volume and confidence and combine it with your current musician-ship and talent.

  • im scared for phantom's part.

  • PR 03- BEST EVER

  • I would like for the Phantom Regiment to perform at my wedding. However, a certain progression of events needs to transpire . . .

  • Phantom rocks here. Damn they were good that year.

  • It's about time the GREATEST PHANTOM REGIMENT EVER!!! :D

  • 2:15 marching penis

  • Best ever Phantom Regiment!!

  • My favorite of all of this - last one! Phantom's wild Canon in D ending!

  • "best for last"

    - A-FREAKIN-MEN!!!

  • I haven't really loved a Cadets show since that 03 show. Wow! I wish they'd cut looses and play like that now!

  • @DCIPhan11 2005 cadets! how could you not like that. best show of all time.

  • is that the vanguard doing the music from blue shades? its vaguely familiar

  • That definitely wasn't the Cadets' 2003 ending....what happened to Rocky Point Holiday and the Z-pull?

  • @reverberate10 Do you have the 86 Blue devils?A killer!

  • 03' Phantom- Harmonic Journey.

That show is my number one favorite show of all time.

  • I think bottle dance needs to be thrown in the mix...

  • I think part of the audition to get into phantom regiment is to be able to single handedly out blow the blue devils lol

  • another classic youtube video NO DISLIKES!!!!!!

  • YOUTUBE GOT RID OF HARMONIC JOURNEY VIDEOOO!!!! WTFFF FUCKING BASTARDS THAT WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITES

  • @Marchingfreak123 I KNOW! i'm just lucky i got it onto my ipod before that happened! i was soo mad. D:<

  • D.C.I. destroyed drum corps.

  • Cadets '03: DAAAAAAAAAMN.

  • why do so many hate on BD so much? and i think the cadets had 2000 all to themselves. :) but Niagara IS a great show. AND Phantom 03 is THE way to end a show, is it not?!

  • why do so many hate on BD so much? and i think the cadets had 2000 all to themselves. :) but Niagara IS a great show.

  • best percussion feature: cavaliers 2010 when they yell "This! Is! My Rifle!..."

  • I know I'm not the only one that saw something fly into the air on the left side of the screen at 7:06.

  • Dont the cadets use the music at 00:33-00:49 in their show, this I believe? (Except the cadets had a cooler mellophone part)

  • The Cavaliers' drill always makes me tear up a little

  • stupid question: does espn still cover DCI?

  • The judge in the middle of the formation at the end of the '99 Madison show must of felt like a badass.

  • Phantom '03 <3

SCV in '999 though. Mhh. I love Frank Tichelli.

  • Thank you Phantom Regiment for completely destroying my eardrums!

  • Phantom 2003 OMG that was so amazing to see LIVE @ Finals ... one of the moments I will never forget.

  • Visually, just not musically, IMO the Niagra Falls show was freakin' insane.

  • Blue Devils are like this: ....

Then Phantom comes in like this: WE ARE THE PR AND THIS IS CANON IN D AND WE WILL MELT YOUR FACES OFF!!!!!

  • @winemac238 It's easy to melt faces off when you get to park and bark or walk slowly like Crown or Phantom (and often BD). Hence why the Cavies?Cadets are almost never the best brass ensembles.

  • did anyone else stop paying attention when the blue devils started to play and then get scared have to death when you get waked up by phantom's amazing brick wall of sound?? haha

  • @SuperColbinator All the time.

  • '03 Phantom would have won if the rest of the show had been as good.

  • GET IT 1999 SCV!

    Ammmazzing show live. God.

Should have won on its own.

  • I think PR '03 could have won, but their show looked kind of sloppy....not straight lines and stuff

  • were the madison scouts 1999 playing Jesus Christ superstar?

  • @nate99able

Yes. JCSS from the Scouts. Great show!

  • 8:11 made me laugh.

  • So, Phantom made me def...

  • Cadets 03? Meh. Madison '83 owns Malaguena.

  • cadets 2003 was a good ending. harmonic journey had only a good beginning and ending. that's what it was remembered for. 2003 and (007) 2004 cavs ending id pretty epic. but then again my knowledge is only from 2002-2005 when i actually was in marching band and watched dci

  • Saved the best for last

  • first time i've ever seen that phantom closer.... omg awesome

  • Man, I wish vanguard could have gotten BD in '99. Nice shows for both, though.

  • you can't beat 03 PR...wall of sound

  • My small list of DCI closer favorites is Madison 95, Phantom 08, Star 93 and I still love Phantoms 03 at the top. Those all made me jump out of my seat. But any of the 2006 or later stuff has me kinda bummed. I don't get excited about DCI like I used to. I still love it but nobody gives me a reason to jump up and cheer. DCI caliber is way better than 10 years ago but there's something missing. Loved your choices!

  • Fucking phantom gave me a chill when they came back in after the hop. Fuckin' christ.

  • Cadets can't touch Madison when it comes to Malaguena. Not even close...

Otherwise, very good picks for that era...99 was a damn good year.

  • It says a lot that Phantom can march sloppy as fuck in 2003 and still manage to pull off the greatest show I've ever seen. I actually cried when I saw the end of that show the first time. I knew I was seeing something special.

  • Phantom is beast haha

  • damm listen to that crowd's roar after harmonic journey.. loudest ive heard so far

  • @Marchingfreak123 hey friend, you should have been on the field during that roar!!!! i was a rook out in 99, in the guard, it was such an amazing exchange of energy, love and entertainment, nothing can compare, unless we get a gold medal!!!

  • i think i just got a musical schwing from watching phantom 03

  • @Icanhasoboe

    Check out Phantom '96

  • 1999 Scouts one of the best shows they ever did, I saw it dozens of times that season and never got tired of it.

  • gah harmonic journey is a classic they should have taken it that year

  • @billyflop12 you can just play well to win, you have to march well too.

  • @billyflop12

    Too sloppy!

  • Where's 95 & 96 Scouts? And how about 2005 Southwind?

  • Madison's Jesus Christ Superstar is absolutely epic. Listening to that recording, the audience was frenetic. We're talking screaming in parts, applause in the middle of tunes. The entire show told a story, musically. Stirring and haunting, and I'm Buddhist.

  • Phantom Regiment's canon did it for me. Outstanding.

  • Phantom Regiment exists so that we can have endings like that.

  • Malaguena wasn't the closer for the Cadets in 2003.

  • 8:47 Gives me a #$@! WOODY!.

  • I've never really understood this part of American culture...

  • Of course, you save the best ending in DCI history for last. Phantom Regiment FTW!

  • anyone notice when the cadets are blowing down the house at 1:50ish the percussion judge skipping lol

  • @LS6Silverado haha yeah Allen Christensen is a funny guy.

  • 03 PR @ godlike brass block

  • Best percussion feature? Bluecoats 2008, most definately.

  • I just notice at 2:32 my Dodgers lost!!

  • What is that thing that flies across the screen during BD from 7:06-7:08. The glowing thing flies diagnol across the screen.

  • @PapaDharok

    LOL, uh, a bird? :)

  • @PapaDharok Um...a bird?

  • PHANTOM REGIMENT

    kings of brass

  • Niagara Falls looked pretty dam sick

  • Machine was one of the darkest closers i have ever heard. It was epic. LONG LIVE MACHINE!!!

  • omg, you should have seen my face when i heard SCV playing blue shades by frank ticheli..

    beautiful. :)

thanks. i really like this one out of all of them.

  • @heywhatsername92 I love them just because of that. Ticheli's my favorite compser. my band got to work with him when we played Angels in the Architecture. he's really a gret guy.

  • Phantom regiment 2003 ftw

  • Phantom=Big wall of sound

  • You asked for great percussion features?

    How about 1990, 1991 Crossmen.

    How about 1976 Blue Devils.

Check for anything the Oakland Crusaders did.

How about Spirit's "Devil Went Down to Georgia" from 1980. 8)

  • That's not the end of the cadets 2003 show... they perform Rocky Point Holiday after malaguena

  • I'm not, and never HAVE been a huge Madison Scouts fan...but, have to admit in 99 when they hit that cross and star at the end of the JC Superstar show (and as evidenced by the crowd reaction on this clip) it was a special moment. Really big! There aren't many of those fan nutso moments recently in DCI. Too bad, really. Was Madison the cleanest, best product on the field? Nah...but they always made people come out and buy tickets. Anyway..my old school two cents :) Enjoy all!---SAFye

  • wow phantom just made every other show on this vid look warm and snuggly

  • LOVE regiments harmonic journey

  • Goose bump Certified.

  • PHantom wow that was a drum corp sound.

  • bd was putting me to sleep... then phantom slapped me in the face with their meaty sound

    awesome

  • Meaty sound indeed, but PR's visual program in 2003 blew some major ass...

  • Comment removed

  • Amen.

  • @dongcheeman how do the devils put you to sleep? i agree with phantom's meaty sound, but i also liked the devil's 99 show...

  • @dongcheeman as usual I always fall asleep to BD... how are they always first?

  • @jesusFreak0321

Because they are insane at what they do. I am not a hxc BD fan, but you have to give them their props. Phantom has always had a problem with visual especially.

  • @dongcheeman this could possibly be the best comment ive ever seen on youtube

  • @dongcheeman Replace the last word in your comment and you have a pretty dirty sentence my friend. But I couldn't agree more.

  • why is the cavies visual progam always so sick...its not fair to other corps

  • Now if Cavies Won Every Year with a Perfect Score in Visual I could see you saying that. They aren't the best out there. They rely WAY too much on visuals in my opinion.

  • okay maybe i over exaggerated that statement, you're correct

but its undeniable how good their visual program is

  • They definitely have one of the best visual programs out there, Cadets have some pretty nice stuff too.

  • very true

  • @DrumManTX It sure didnt help their weak ass show this year did it

  • @mheckmer Exactly my point.

  • don't hate corps. Get out there and do it yourself, and pay the money and put the time into it like they did. If you have done all these things, why put down someone when you could appreciate their art for what it is? grow up. drum corps is about the fellowship and comraderie, not about weak shows.

  • Every corps has had shows they regret I marched, I have been on a staff as well. The things you talk about are the things that carry on after the competitive fun and games are over But every corps director I have come in contact with has a show that went thud and they say it all the time I am going to assume that you marched cause it seems like you get it... if you don't like the competitive stuff fine but it seems hard to me to deny that the competitve stuff is a huge part of it like it or not

  • i miss the scouts that blew my ears out..... where art thou???

  • @tdog889

    ?WHERE DID THEY GO?

  • 99 blue devils was sweet. i love the drill for cavaliers and phantom regiments sound is just great. well they all sound fantastic

  • Phantom 03 beats 06 Cavs imo

  • @PapaDharok

    Really?

    Uhm, what were you watching?

  • Cavaliers 2006 and Phantom 2003, head to head knockout! Gotta love them both. I would say Cavaliers 2006.

  • @FSUfanOFtheBAND

06 cavies were bitchin, but musically the show doesn't stand on its own very well.

  • Damn i'm a baritone guy but listen to those mello runs at 8:58-9:03

  • It's funny, because the Cadets '03 clip isn't the end of the show.

  • harmonic journey, the best one here-go phantom regiment

  • cadets 2006 or phantom 2008 percussion feature is my favorite

  • Vanguard has some of the best drill smart one, along with Michael Gaines and the Cavaliers

  • Best Percussion Feature- Bluecoats 08.. or any Bluecoats show

  • I had almost forgotten how ridiculously amazing Harmonic Journey was

  • God, Vanguard's drill always looks so shitty.

  • I don't even see how you can say that.

  • I can say it by looking at the numerous uneven lines that make up a larger, more uneven form, polygon, shape, what the fuck ever...

The Cavaliers' drill looks good because they march dot.

  • Ok that's your opinion.

  • Haha, thanks man. Didn't know what an opinion was.

You've been to Youtube before right? You're going to be encountering many opinions you don't agree with.

  • No need to get smart with me.

  • haha, I like that.

  • I'd say best comment chain ever.

  • Actually dude, Vanguard has marched dot for a long time. Myron Rosander just writes absurdly difficult drill. Not to mention they're brass is absolutely wailing while trying to execute that drill.

  • I don't know about "always", but in this clip you would be correct. It looks insanely difficult, to be sure, but is also very sloppy. I have seen other years where Vanguard didn't look visually appealing. '91 was very sloppy looking, but that year it looked to be the drill, not the execution. To someone who grew up watching them in the 70s, it is weird seeing them sloppy. They were always the benchmark for precision "M&M".

  • The Best Percussion Feature by far is the 2002 Cavaliers - Frameworks!

    ESPECIALLY THE DANCING

Nobody can top that! give it a go yourself!

  • ending is amazing!!!!

  • that last 2 measures at :30.

dear god, I can die now

  • the best percussion feature i can think of is Ramrod by SCV 03

  • you know i watched both these vids and was wondering where phantom was you picked the perfect spot for them.PHANTOM IS THE Best hands down.

  • God that ending to Harmonic Journey is just to epic

  • ya i envy my drum teacher cause he played in the bass line of this show. man what a feeling that must be to hear and feel the music there!

  • gotta hit more of the 80's corps

  • Long Live THE Harmonic Journey

  • Best percussion feature has to be Bridgemen with Black Market Juggler... hands down.

  • Cadets 1998

  • Best percussion feature - Cadets 2000

  • best percussion feature is cadets 05

  • OMFG PHANTOM such a rich sound =.= Why couldn't they do that this year???? I guess ever corps has their bad years though. Sigh hopefully next year they bring it out again!

  • Their sound was fine this year....it was their visual program that shit the bed

  • Harmonic Journey = EPIC

  • @IITeXII Greatest show of all time, ALL TIME!

    -Kanye West

  • Where's '96 Phantom and '99 SCV?

  • uhh 99 scvs the first one......

  • agreed
