Other countries laugh at us for complaining so much their gas prices have been in the 5.00-6.00 range for a while now. OPEC has the final say on gas prices anyway, no matter what the president say. Due to the fact that to limit OPEC would cause a even larger outbreak in the middle east.

The only way to decrease the price of gas in the short term is to increase supply (e.g. Drill Here, Drill Now). If you want gas to hit at least five dollars per gallon, support the Obama "windfall profits tax."
The object of any competitive enterprise in the free market is to minimize costs in order to produce more output in order to outsell their competitors. Minimizing costs on American corporations just means cheaper goods. It's only people that don't really understand anything at all (like you) that don't understand this. A tax on a corporation is just a tax on the consumer, whether you like it or not.
Most don't understand where the money for the taxes on the Oil companies comes from. They pass it on to the people who buy the OIL. last report I saw - from USGS no less was that in 10 years, if we start the drilling process right now, the amount of oil we will get will affect the price of a barrel of oil by about $2.75. That's approximately $0.06 a gallon.

This is why I said this is stupid: Exxon alone paid almost 30B$ in taxes which represents half collected from all personal taxes. Profit margins are only 10% at oil companies. And we all know there is a LOT of investment in terms of where oil is found. The problem is NOT the oil companies. The problem is one of failure to find oil on our own lands and waters. It's not even that we aren't investing in alternatives, because as you know the Bush energy plan has invested more than ever before.

Everyone is in favor of alternate fuels and McCain is also a supporter of nuclear power; but my Honda Civic Hybrid runs on GAS, not wind or sunlight. The only way to decrease the price of gas in the short term is to increase supply (e.g. Drill Here, Drill Now). If you want gas to hit at least five dollars per gallon, support the Obama "windfall profits tax."

The object of any competitive enterprise in the free market is to minimize costs in order to produce more output in order to outsell their competitors. Minimizing costs on American corporations just means cheaper goods. It's only people that don't really understand anything at all (like you) that don't understand this. A tax on a corporation is just a tax on the consumer, whether you like it or not.

Most don't understand where the money for the taxes on the Oil companies comes from. They pass it on to the people who buy the OIL. So in theory, those people who want the government to raise the taxes on the Oil companies might as well just tell them to add 5 or 10 cents to the gas pumps and anything that has a petroleum base in it.

Nope. Not missing it. We did it after WWII. The world ask the USA what it wanted and they said that Crude is to be purchased in dollars. They asked again and the US replied with the same.
So Yes I do understand that when the dollar falls the foreign countries celebrate because they think the US is falling to. Little do they realize "So goes the USA. So goes the world."

manipulate -- How do you think we back our currency since 1971 after the end of the Bretton Woods system?
1) If you want to be rich denominate in Dollars (that way we can manipulate our Currency aka the currency of the world)
2) And you have to pay a % of the Profits you receive must be given to us to pay on our national debt

You are stating after WW2 -- I am talking about now with the end of the Bretton Woods system in 1971
August 1971, Nixon announced dramatic changes in economic policy. He ended the Bretton Woods international monetary system. And he imposed a temporary surcharge on all imports. The Bretton Woods system was created towards the end of World War II and involved fixed exchange rates with the U.S. dollar as the key currency - but also a role for gold linked to the dollar at $35/ounce.

btw According to experts, the only real barrier to oil independence is a better lithium battery that has a longer life and is less expensive that can run a car (like the tesla).
