  • mmmmmmmmm... i really dOnt like it Bocelli... eww... :/

  • cont. from below

...Nor is Bocelli fantastic at being an exciting and cheerful "drinker" as you'd expect in a good portrayal of this work, but he has a fantastic voice, even if "softer" and more pleasant to the ear than the likes of Kaufmann, Beczala, etc. So far, I have not seen any real criticism of Bocelli in this video aside from it "not being opera," and he certainly sounded great to me. Many opera fans are pretentious or snobby, and don't actually know what they are talking about

  • @cmc0605 you know, THANK YOU for saying he has a fantastic voice. I was starting to think the whole world went deaf with arrogance and stupidity, but i don't think it's fair to judge his acting. blind people don't move around with naturalness. they move a bit awkwardly due to their condition and they tend to stand very still when they got no guidance or anywhere to touch, or walk with stiffness. so i don't think he'll ever be able to be a good cheerful drinker, --->

  • @cmc0605 ---> but i totally agree when you say his voice is softer and more pleasant to the ear than some other singers. after a while, my ears feels a bit tired when listening to others, but Bocelli's tone is just perfect. that doesn't mean i don't like the others, of course!

  • For all of the self-proclaimed opera experts criticizing here, it would be interesting to formulate a working definition of what they think "opera" is, or perhaps cite other videos of the same work by a different tenor and discuss why they think it is better opera (as if opera were synonymous w overweight singers in Viking costumes that have testosterone issues). At the heart of opera is the art of conveying a story though singing; Bocelli is not a great "actor" (cont...)

  • hope I won't offend any Bocelli fan, but I'm quite disappointed with him here. Standing next to Netrebko and singing like that ...

I do like the guy, but come on - his voice and technique just aren't suited for singing with trained opera artists.

  • I love Andrea Bocelli and Anna Netrebko , and I don't care if he sing opera or not, my ear is greatfull because their voices sing together

  • Bravooooooo le due migliore del Mondo.

  • There is a clear difference between Anna's and Andrea's technical prowess. (Miss Netrebko being far better in opera at least)

  • я с такой причёской как у Анны по дому хожу :))

  • Both sucks tremendously. Score rewritten. Bravooooo!

  • Bocelli sucks - he's not a real singer - any real opera buff would know that. At least Netrebko, whatever her flaws, is a real opera singer.

  • @weekendpartier : ABSOLUTELY AGREE! Finally someone who has some musical taste (and culture)... If that guy was not blind (which I regret.. but that's life!) he would have been booed out of any respectable opera house. He really should NOT sing opera!

  • @weekendpartier being an opera "buff" doesn't make you a better judge than any other person who knows music. Bocelli has a tremendous voice, maybe not suited completely for opera, which is why he does a wide array of music, including classical pop and at times jazz and big band. That doesn't mean he sucks. If people want him to do opera, he will, you do what will showcase your talent. His range & tone is like any other opera singer, said to be the world's most beloved tenor. Just my opinion.

  • @JAyala7293 You do have a point, Bocelli is fine in non-opera repertory, he has a very warm and pleasant tone. But he doesn't have the technique to do opera. This is a scene from an opera, and Bocelli just doesn't do it justice, his phrasing, expression are lacking. There are many singers who can do better. In terms of being the world's most beloved tenor, most people simply don't know tenors who sing in opera houses, they compare to pop singers not opera tenors. Popular not the same as great.

  • the conductor counducted the 10th anniversary of Les Miserables

  • Bocelli was his usual great self but netrebko was slightly better. What a great duet and worthy of an award.

  • WHAT is the difference in the background?, they both have opera background, Andrea performed in at least 3 or more operas. He is crossover of course, but opera for SURE.

  • Man! 5 months of ongoing cat fighting! Now, this was some kind of TV special, right? And we have two very different singers from two very different backgrounds that are SURE to be a good draw for a wide TV. So, someone got paid a lot of money to sing, someone paid a lot of money to advertise and the two singers drew a large audience and everyone was happy for a lot of rea$on$. Stop your "my singer can beat up your singer", a lot of people got exposed to a new experience.

    Pompous asses.

  • she is perfect but andrea not for me

  • Netrebko is awesome.

  • ITV and their firecrackers...

  • h8ers gonna h8, i thought it was pretty darn good!

  • Happy to see that there are some discerning listeners. Bocelli is NOT an opera singer, any more than I am a neurologist! Leave opera repertoire to opera singers, please!! Have some respect for the composers and for the art form.

  • well, I'm sorry to say this but Bocelli was quite horrible here :(

10x god there was Netrebko to save the day

  • wow. hearing bocelli and then netrebko sing is like night and day. Wasn't sure if I was listening to opera until she started singing.

  • Krása..............

  • Magnifique!

  • What's with Bocelli's awful and wierd legato???

  • Bravo, bellisimo.

  • Miracoloso!!!

  • I wished he would be an opera singer, not a cross-over one, because now I can think of 50 tenors that I like more in this aria. He doesn`t have the necessary tone compression... but he has a beautiful timbre.

  • Ana Maria Martinez is BETTER!!

  • My god, Bocelli does not have a musical bone in his entire body. It is worse than bad. What a sad reality we live in that he is probably one of the most commercially successful singers in the world. But then McDonald's does pretty well, too.......

  • @paddyswok I'm not sure if I understood you correct. You're saying Andrea Bocelli can't sing ???? He has an amazing, soft and powerful tenor!

  • @timh97sg1 I am saying that he does not have anything near the quality of voice to sing opera. He does not have the instrument or the musicality. I urge you to listen to real opera singers, then you will hear the difference. This is the commercial world trying to tell the public what art is, and it is so very far off the mark. Happily, YouTube is full of great artists, so cross-referencing is very easy. For example, search Jonas Kaufmann. That is a real voice, and a great one.

  • @paddyswok you don't have a clue what are you talking about. bocelli is an amazing singer and you can't deny it. he might not sing in opera but that doesn't mean he can't sing it! okey he is commercially successful singer but only because he has an amazing voice! that he doesn't sing high like Netrebko or very low doesn't make him any worse! he's unique and stop libelling him!

  • @timh97sg1 I do have a clue. It is not libel. He is simply not an amazing singer, far from it. There are so many amazing singers out there, real ones. I work with them in opera all the time, and have done for 15 years. So my opinion is an informed one. Frank Sinatra was an amazing singer. It is not necessary to be an opera singer to be an amazing singer. My point is that he can NOT sing the opera repertoire, and Netrebko can. So the result is imbalanced and grating. Did you look up Kaufmann?

  • @paddyswok

Sorry you do have a blinking clue. He is wonderful singer and.

  • @paddyswok What a load of croc.

  • Comment removed

  • Love Anna..... but Andrea on the other hand O.o

  • Lindo!!!Cantaram perfeitamente bem.Bravo!!!

  • Indescribable, how wonderful that was. How I wish I was there.

  • Due buoni cantanti... la lirica é altro!!!

  • she is not just a singer but a beautiful actress

  • how very wonderful this is.

  • Это ВОСХИТИТЕЛЬНО !!!!

  • She sings as well as she LOOKS!

  • What a treat!

  • OH MY GOD QUE VOCES, SUPERRRRR

  • eccellente!!

  • Imprecionante, y ella se ve espectacularmente hermosa,

  • the singers and the orchestra wasnt completly in sync at the beginning ( more to fault to the conductor) it was still a great vocal performance nonetheless.

  • Awesome!!!

  • ... insomma... potevano fare meglio... :S

  • shivering,speechless, simply wonderful

  • kippevel

  • This is so amazing

  • Espectacular un deleite para los oidos!!! Excelentes Voces

  • Awesome!! He sounds much better with this lady than with Brightman. Isn't this the exact same theater where he sang Canto Della Terra with Sarah Brightman? I recognize the same orchestra and choir as well.

  • AWESOME!! PERFECT! AMAZING!

  • @christianrosenrot Question: have you ever been to a REAL opera performance? "awesome" "perfect" ???? Pleeeeease!

  • magnificent singing and performance!!!

  • The title of the piece is 'Libiamo ne' lieti calici'. The style is 'brindisi' since one or two characters introduce the solo melody and the full ensemble later join in the refrain.

  • @Shelbourner "Brindisi" is NOT a style, there is no such thing as "brindisi" style. Il Brindisi is a Toast in Italian, the invitation to drink to something or someone. This is from opera La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi. In the beginning of La Traviata, there is a party at the house of courtesan Violetta Valeri. The guests demand the toast, Il Brindisi. One of the guests, Alfredo agrees. He starts it, Violetta answers, the guests join in. Listen to the start of opera La Traviata.

  • AWwwwwwwwwwwwwesome!!!!!

  • MILF!!

  • I dont think Bocelli knew his lines, and also found Anns intimidating

  • So you're saying one of the most highly regarded singers in the world, the biggest-selling singer in the history of Classical music, accompanying Anna to one of the most popular Brindisi's in one of the most famous Italian operas, didn't know his lines? And he was intimidated by her?

The man has completed eight full operas. Criticize his work and performances all you'd like, but youre simply barking up the wrong tree. No one criticizes him for now knowing lines or being intimidated by anyone.

  • @galept I was merely justifying Andrea who in my opinion and also someone else's, didnt do a very good job. I adore the guy , but this time Anna overpowered him. I collect his CD's and think he has a magnificent voice, so i wasnt exactly critisicing him. We all get our bad days. I should know i happen to be a singer myself.

  • @gharusa Andrea has two things going for him in this one, his more powerful voice and his breathing. He never seems out of breath which I think is partly genetics and partly technique.

  • @galept Bocelli has terrible technique, I don't know what you're talking about.

  • @tenor220 You sound like Anne Midgette, who compares just about everyone to Pavarotti.

  • @galept rRefrain from making stupid comments please.

  • @tenor220 What an intelligent rebuttal. Why don't you follow your own advice, nit wit?

  • @galept It would be easier to take you seriously if you didn't sound like a twelve year old.

  • I pulled the "intelligent rebuttal" phrase from your profile's description about yourself. Seems like something you're incapable of, as the only thing you've managed to write were a few cheap attacks. Good bye.

  • @tenor220 When you give an intelligent statement you'll get an intelligent rebuttal, until then you'll get what I give you and be happy with it.

  • @tenor220 My, aren't we impressed with ourselves! I wouldn't care if you were the finest singer or critic in the whole history of "man," with an attitude like that, you are nobody.

  • @karenina5 Cool, I'll take that to heart and try to change, because all i want in life is your approval.

    Bitch, shut the fuck up.

  • @tenor220 You are nobody. Nothing. Nada.

  • @karenina56 Is that why you took the time to comment back to me? You must be a pretty small minded person to take the time out of your day to comment on nothing.

  • @tenor220 Ah! Finally, a response that's to the point. Good point! On the other hand, if I'm so small minded, why do you continue to...well, you know. Just breathe, "Tenor." Just breathe.

  • @karenina56 Please stop trying to be clever, you're only embarrassing yourself.

Improper use of ellipses never makes anyone look intelligent, just so you know.

  • @tenor220 Wow, you used the "F" word--how cool. Listen, you are nothing, nobody, nada...get it?

  • @galept You are aware that there are other tenors out there aren't you and that just because someone doesn't like Bocelli doesn't mean one compares everyone to Pavarotti? A little fact check: opera theaters where Pavarotti used to perform are still open, there are tenors who perform leading roles in these top opera theaters and Bocelli isn't invited to sing roles in these top opera theaters. Ever heard the names of Beczala, Kaufmann, Florez, Vargas?

  • divina

  • BEAUTIFUL!

  • To everyone who panned the performance, please let me know the last time any of you performed on a stage of this magnitude. I agree with 123pumpupjam. Enjoy it for what it is.

  • Nice big titties on Anna. :)

  • He's a true opera tenor

If not,why the hell Zubin Mehta worked with him on his Verdi album ?

  • Just perfect....

    Perfecto.....

  • 2 of my most favourite and idolized artists... He's splendid as usual and she's so beautiful... Bless her for the baby in her womb... If you sing as i am, you would not say anything unpleasant to this performance. Try being in their shoes and you'll know... They are just wonderfull!!!!

  • Superb singing for a concert performance,Methinks some pretentious comments here.

  • Magnifique!!!!!!!!!

  • She doesn't sound very good because of her pregnancy.. It's hard to hold and especially to push the air when the diaphragm is already pressed by the load in the tummy. She was brave enough to perform well in these circumstances :)

  • Wow, absolutely awful. Neither sounds like they know what they are singing about (surprising for both of them), and the phrasing is choppy and off rhythm. The anthetesis of good Verdi singing.

  • the venue is the gigantic, domed Victorian musical palace, the Royal Albert Hall in London which has a holes in the roof (I saw the rain come in) has a resonation in this performance like a million euro Stradaverius... oh to have been there !

  • What your are looking at and hearing in near perfect audio quality are ...

the 2 most refined, talented, passionate, gorgeous performers in the high musical culture today

on stage, together, just nailing it with such ease

our times are rotten in most every department of life but it is still the best of times with art and artists such as these to stir our hearts

  • Vaya dos...

  • Oh, yes, very disgusting - to sing while in the prime of her life and blooming with pregnancy. WHAT PLANET ARE YOU FROM? And how does her size - she is NOT fat, by the way - in any way detract from her voice? It isn't even relevant to be considering it, you ignorant peasant, unless her weight was so unhealthy that it bore down on her diaphragm and affected her breathing!

  • Bocelli sounds like a robot

  • wrong, more like a cyborg

  • bravo

  • They are very good!

  • wonderful singing, well done both! can't believe how beautiful anna looks even while pregnant.

  • She's even more beautiful when she's pregnant.

  • She sounds great too.

  • @chocolatey28 Pregnant!

So what has that got to do with her singing?

  • i love bocelli.

  • SAdly , two of my favorite entertainers have not done thier best work here , I think that they were hurrying , Ms. Netrebko sounded off key of all things and her timing sounded off. Mr B just didnt sound right? Again a timing problem? I shall still enjoy both , just not this performance.

  • HEre she does have big problems with her breathing.

  • she was pregnant, like to see you do better that pregnant!

  • @jrr1234567890 Maybe a day. But you won't know it's me. Moreover, I'm allowed to post a comment, aren't I?

Even if she was pregnant, I don't really care. I just told that her breathing was awful since we were able to hear it. I think people might agree with me on that one.

  • I love Bocelli no matter what he sings, I always enjoy his performance.

  • i agree that David Foster did mess him up a bit, but i think he did wonderful with this song. :)

  • Absolutely embarrassing! Andrea Bocelli should not be singing this! Since when has he done opera? This is appalling.

  • What are you kidding me??? Since when had he done opera???? That's like asking since when Barry Manilow has been singing love ballads....

    OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @1969conti Andrea Bocelli's "crossover" cd's are not opera! They are not classically written arias, and remain very separate to opera.

  • I love Bocelli but I have to be honest about one thing... there is a video where someone at the audience was recording this event, and you can listen how Bocelli really was singing and he didnt do a good job. It made me a little sad, cause Bocelli has such beautiful voice and instead keep trying to get better, like were the best opera singers ( they called themselves eternal students ), no, he has been doing whatever will lead him to more money.

I think David Foster really spoiled him. :-(

  • You people have no idea what opera is! So sad that most of you have given this shot a poor rating. I give it 100 percent. Opera is the glory of human voice.

  • @123pumpupjam could not agree more with you

  • @123pumpupjam

    AGREED!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I dislike Bocelli.

  • Bravissimos!!! Bello Dueto !!!

    Ivone.

  • Bravissimo, anzi bravissimi

  • Terrible and popera

  • Terrible, just terrible

  • not their best

  • ke buen video!!! me emociono ver dos grandes en ese escenario!!! ke lindo

  • not their best performances, either of them

  • They don't have best performances.

  • I must agree with some of the commentators when they say that Bocelli is not an opera singer...at least not quite yet. I like his voice, but he's got a while to go. Netrebko...hmmm...again, controversial but still very listenable. Hopefully they will both improve with time. Just for the record, I am a Callas/Pavarotti devotee and hence unreasonably difficult to please :)

  • Bravo

  • wow impresionante, aunque no como pavarotti

  • es diferente pavarotti a ellos

  • ADOREI!!!!!

  • Bravissimo!!!!!!!!! Molto Bene!

  • Comment removed

  • I do agree with you, but at that time Bocelli was like a real opera singer, doing what was suppose to be done, discipline, been faithful to the art made him famous. He did listen to Pavarotti's advices and always studying to be the best he could be. At that time you could hear a real opera singer... now seems like he forgot where he came from and how important was for Italy to keep alive the name of the Italian Tenors. Bocelli was suppose to be an old school singer in a modern times, I guess not

  • Imagine being blind, and STILL go on like he does. No, he is not Bjørling, Pavarotti, Domingo. He is Bocelli. And here he is performing with Anna Netrebko. And, please, Sir, what have YOU been up to lately? I visited a kindergarten for kids with Down´s Syndrome the other day. They were listening to this very tune, with the same performers. They didn´t have any idea that there most certainly are even MUCH greater singers in this world. They just enjoyed. `Nuff said?

  • @stingsild2

    AMEN stingsild2

  • First of all I think Brindisi musn't be sofast...isn't it?

And second, in my opinion, Anna sang this song much better thet Andrea Bocelli.

Well I lissen him Ifeel that hecan't sing so fast like a music.

  • I don't know why, but they sound bad to me... I thought they were supposed to be good...

  • I think that Andrea Bocelli is not one of the top tenors... He has a nice voice, but I don't think it is enough

  • very poor performance, he can not sing opera.

    popular does not mean good.

he is the opera singer for the poor

  • i agree, he can't sing opera, but that doesn't mean that he is the opera singer fir the poor, tahts a bad choice of words there, being rich doesn´t mean that your gonna have culture or good taste for music, please think before you type

  • They are both pretty awful in this flea-market edition. I always said that Bocelli would never get where he is, if it wasn't for his poor handicap, and Netrebko sucks. She is also flat and can't breathe.

  • She is flat, dull and pale. I just listened to Lucia Popp's Brindisi to remove her bad voice from my memory.

  • A popera tenor singing with a crappy operatic soprano.

  • lovemypiano111, suck you with your ignorance!

  • you know...that happens, when one is pregnant!

  • Comment removed

  • bocelli is such an awful singer!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • excelente, magnífico, bellísimo, los interpretes, el escenario, todo es bello

  • The singing is pretty bad and I am extremely confused by this. The concept of conducting a blind singer isn't striking anyone??? If the singer is dictating... then why is there a conductor!?!

  • well believe it or not.. orchestras need to be conducted... just a wild guess thrown out there

  • wonderful, wish I were there. wonderful

  • THE AUDIENCE LIKED IT MUCH

  • el collar ke tiene anna es precioso ;0

  • this is not a good performance. bocelli does not know how to sing opera and anna for sure had a very bad day

  • Comment removed

  • Los dos son grandes cantantes, pero no es la mejor interpetracion de ninguno de los dos. Pareciera que Andrea hubiera perdido la destreza de cantar arias, que es muy diferente al genero musical que ahora el canta, y Ana is too full of herself

  • BRAVO

  • Help, what a horror...Bocellis tempi are terrible...Envoke the ghosts of Callas/Albanese/Tebaldi/Bjorling/Bergonzi, what a lifeless performance. (Actually, Albanese may be living as far as I know, 100 years old.)

  • Invoke of course, anywway it is ghastly.

  • No es la mejor interpretación...de ninguno de los dos.
