  • great vid man!

  • @RobertBottomley Thank you.

  • They always said that the minimoog is so good at doing bass but I wonder what kind of bass they mean, because for me it sounds very slow in the envelopes compared to some others. Sure it have it's unique sound but I don't hear any punch or real fatness, there is always that squeeky moogsound which I don't fancy that much. I think waldorf Pulse for instance is alot better for just getting that sick punchy bass.

  • minimoog?

  • @ppingpoong Yes, but only an old one from 1974.

  • @nickeax ONLY an old one. man, i wish i could get my hands on one of those. They are beasts and well-known for being one of the best at making bass sounds.

  • double oscillation = cumshot on monitor

    thanks

  • This is a n actual instrument with many diff sounds! Wow. Mini moog. I love this and the fact you can author your own sounds and get many combinations. How cool is this!!!

  • Did I hear the "Dr. Who" bass for a second?

  • @RGAF1987 Ha ha! I DID try to hack that out a bit. :)

  • MINIMOOG!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm using the TS 404 on FL. Sounds similar but not exactly the same

  • @164ItsAllAboutMe164

    he's playing a minimoog.

for a high-quality software replica you can download the arturia minimoog vst,

or the freeware version if you google "minimogue VA vst."

it's a classic synthesizer for creating bass tones, but it can be great for organ sounds, pads and leads. it's very versatile and remarkably easy to use.

private message me if you want any info on where to find the vsts or how to install them in FL studio.

  • Thank you!! In 3 minutes I have the basic understanding of how to shape sound!! May all your projects be platinum

  • Sounds wicked!!!

On Oscillator settings. You set the OSC to 32? what Do you normally set the OSC's pitch too? Also, do you ever add flanger or a phaser effect to your bass?

    Thanks!

    5 stars

  • Hi, thanks for the comment. I actually never set out with any ideas like that. Some people are smart enough to come up with patches in their minds, but I stumble around until I get what I like.

  • when i put my filther setttings like urs it doenst sound like that

  • You'll get a bit of variance between synths. :-)

  • It probably won't. Thats the MiniMoog, one of the most famous synths ever. One thing about all Moogs is that they had a very unique, very fat filter that no other filter sound like.

  • didnt the VCOs have a bit to do with its unique sound to? I could be wrong

  • Yes they did.

  • Don't worry about brand names. Just keep playing until you get the sound you want.Synthesisers are DESIGNED for that very purpose!

  • cool, you have a minimoog !

    it's very expensive.

  • what was the one at the very start for the intro bit?

    did you make it?

    i wanna buy one! =(

  • Yeah, that's a few different tracks, but all with this synth. :-)

The bass is filter modulated with a reverse triangle LFO, although this synth doesn't have an LFO, so I used OSC3. :)

  • Thanks so much for this video im a beginner and this really helps speed up the learning process

  • You're very welcome!

  • Thanks for posting. Can't wait to try it out.

  • You're welcome! Let me know how you go.

    :)

  • this looks like the syth i wanted. but anyways, very informative :] with the fart noise and what nots jp.

  • A lot of people want to buy these type of synths. ;]

  • can you do one for a Keith Emerson esque bass a la Karn Evil 9 1st impression?

  • I could try on a different synth, as I don't have the Mini any more.

  • very nice tutorial sir,

can do one for some nice warm (timbolan) pads

    thx again

  • That's a good idea, I will if I can find the time mate.

  • sweeeeet.

  • Hello, I've posted this video on switchedonsynthesizer.blogspot . com

  • thats phatt

what about pure sine bass, can the moog play that too?

  • Sine is not a waveform produced by any of the Minimoogs oscillators, but you can get some sine waves using filter oscillation. This is not low enough for bass though!

So the short answer is no. :-)

  • Not true - just apply LPF to a square waveform, and it becomes a sine.

  • Ok, I was thinking that the original question referred to the MM having an actual sine raw waveform.

    Thanks for the info mate.

  • moogalicious. Nice video! Break out the lfo's next time and really go nuts.

  • thanks nick, it's really useful: waiting for getting a hardware, in the meantime i must praticise on a software.

    thank u so much ;)

  • stupid question but does it work with moog's software as well? =]

  • These techniques can be employed by any system that employs subtractive synthesis. It doesn't matter if the subtractive synthesis is real or simulated. :-)

The best thing to do is to play around and see what sounds you like, using something like my guide as a way of understanding what the controls do.

  • you are a begginer and you already have a minimoog!?

  • By beginner, I mean actually focusing on the instrument instead of just using a synth to fulfill a part for a demo or something.

And I can't think of any reason why a beginner should not start with the synth many others are based around. It's simple, well designed and powerful. It also sounds not too bad.

    :-)

  • its not a bad thing it would be lucky if you started off with that
