I knew about the CD scratching method, but this just sounds way too organized and melodic to be generative. Are you talking about some of his newer stuff?
the more Markus Popp improves his machine to create random melodies, the more he appropriate his tracks. The more his machine do a part of his work, the more he say that he's the artist! But this (old) track is probably not so generative ;)

Markus Popp and his band Oval used parts and cuts of broken cd's.
Then they invented somekind of machine that makes the sound come in a randow way. Which make the music grow up by herself.
Really interresting in my opinion!
