I learnt the whole concerto for an exam many years ago then foolishly bought a recording (James Galway's version). When I heard how fast it should be played I chickened out and played one of Mozart's concertos instead. It is so boring the examiner stopped me at the end of the first page saying, 'The rest's all the same, isn't it?' He wouldn't have said that if I'd played the Ibert!
@agneske88 Do you know the Mozart Flute Concerto in G? Mozart couldn't be bothered to write a flute concerto so he transposed his oboe concerto into a different key. The whole thing is just page after page of scales. Even the examiner thought it was boring which was why he stopped me. He couldn't bear to hear any more!
