Both Marcie Blane's and Susan Maughan's version are said to have been released in October 1962. Both versions have their appeal. It's not all that unusual in those days to have cover versions by a number of vocalists upon the same rill. From at least the late forties into the early sixties there were anywheres at least a couple dozen versions of the same song released, some charting at the same time. Sometimes the main aspect differentiating was the arranger/orchestral conductor.
I last went to see susan at a holiday centre at southport around the late 80s and she looked great and sounded great - is she still around? - Thanks for posting!
Susan has a much more mature and refined voice compared to Marcie Blaine but she is out of character with the lyrics, even back in 1962.
Marcie Blaines voice sounds like the girl she needs to be to effectively deliver the adolescent sounding lyrics even though she claims not to be "a kid any-maw". Susan is just too much of a woman. (A real knockout though IMO!)
This is the first time I ever heard of Susan Maughan. She is wonderful! I'll have to search for more U.K. singers.
A proper woman

Unfortunately, this has been compressed to too low a bit rate before upload. Hence the swimming in oil effect.

Marcie Blaine had the original U.S. hit.

This looks as if it comes from some time after "Bobby's Girl" was actually a hit. It has an early 70's look to it.

You're absolutely right - if I remember correctly, I taped it at the end of the 70's.

I think the '70s'look refers to the set, not the singer, but i may be wrong!
