  • Hey man, the amp sounds sick. Are you using any pedals with the amp?

  • 1:42 what song, I recognize it haha! Awesome playing man! How loud is the volume on the amp here as well?

  • @MyxHarnett It's Cemetery Gates from Pantera

  • Wow this is a great demo! Sounds exactly like what I want, I thought I HAD to have a GH100L.

  • wat kinda guitar are you using?

  • awesome!! nice tone!!! amp settings man? any distortion pedal added??

  • Good job playing DT! The amp sounds great though sound quality is quite low...well anyway, I think I´m going to buy one of these!

  • Great Amp sound, and excellent playing too man. Your licks are flawless¡¡¡¡

  • Cemetery Gates, what a classic

  • Great vid man, and great sound out of that laney! What are your settings for your lead channel?

  • Is that guitar an RG-1527 with Evos maybe?

  • this amp has fuckin balls!

  • Im lookin for a nice tube head with tight low ends and chunky highs. Im between an Engl Powerball and this baby, the Laney. What would you recommend? I mean, the Laney is very cheap for its features.

I use a 7 string and need a well defined distortion for the low notes. Do you think this amp suits for what im lookin for?

Sorry if this is one of the "Frequently Asked Questions", but i really need your opinion.

  • @Themethalmaster sounds stupid, but..u know...the best thing would be going into a Guitar Shop and really test both Amps..and see which one fits your needs best... I`ve a slightly modified VH100R (Master Volume and Solo Boost) for nearly 15 Years now (beside a few other Amps)..and the Laney is allways my first Choice ( I use it for new Rock, Metal, and even Punk Rock)

  • dream theater!

  • Dude, can you help me out?? I just bought a VH100R, and the overdrive sound is kind of fuzzy or harsh, and your's is great. Nothing like what I get out of my amp. Can you tell me your settings? I've got Svetlana EL34 tubes in mine. The cleans are great, but I'm not happy with my overdrive channel. At what levels do you have your gain and drive?

  • @Gibson735150 i may help since i also have this thing. 1st switch to 6l6 tubes - this amp sounds way better with those and its not that harsh - Arvobravo also uses those. I also suggest getting a pentode/triode switch and have the amp on triode (50w on 4 tubes) - sounds amazing its the mod is cheap (round $40). Dont add too much gain as it sounds best with gain round 4-5 (if u lack gain play harder :D). And dont overdo witch bass since when cranked this amp will kill bass-wise.

  • Great tone

  • oh and what overdrive pedal are you using?

  • Thank you so much! this helped a lot! 1 question though. do you have high gain pickups or low gain? Active or passive?

  • Hi

    Really Likee this.

I recently bought this amp but cannot got a decent setting for metal

Could you please tell me what settings you are using in this video please??

    Thanks

  • you have a very good sound, i´m honest, do you have the guitar plugged directly into the amp? what speakers you have? i´d like to buy the amp..greetz

  • You are ridiculously amazing player! Thinking of getting that guitar (Ibanez RG1527Z)

  • laney vh100r or marshall jcm 800 2204?

  • @derHuckepackmann Depends on the tone you want. Both Laney and Marshie have a great tone but u have to choose which one u like better. Laney is more like a mix of brit and us sounds while marshie is u know... marshie :D. I have the vh100r and will love it forever. Great distortion, amazing clean... what u want more? :D

  • @derHuckepackmann for high gain and clean, definitely the vh100r. its a beast. and very versatile. if you just gotta have that jcm 800 tone, though, then obvioulsy the marshall

  • PANTERA NAD LANEY!!!!

  • Hey mate just wondering what's the different between the 6L6's and the EL34's?

    Tom

  • Strange Deja Vu! Does this amp come in a combo or one similar.

  • Sounds awesome, superb amp and superb playing!

  • You nail that Dimebag rhythm vibrato @ 2:40 - f**king awesome!!!! :D

  • what pickups are you using? it sounds great.

  • Hello mate. Really like your stuff, always keeping an eye on Collibus. How do you keep the hiss from your Laney at bay? Are you driving your 2nd channel with your OD pedal, and the additional gain from the Laney engaged?

  • @kidguitar2000 I use an NS-2 after my overdrive pedal to remove the hiss made by the pedal and also noise from the guitar.

As for the drive channel yep i am using it with an overdrive pedal but its not to boost the gain, more to shape the tone slightly.

  • @Arvobravo Thanks for this. If you get a chance, could you look at the video of my Laney VH100R on my youtube page, and let me know if your 2nd Channel with drive engaged produces as much noise.

P.S Get some more live footage of Collibus up on your site!! : )

  • @Arvobravo SD-1 with level and drive straight up at 12 o'clock brotha?? Or is it a Tube Screamer?

Love the clip. Wheres the master volume on this, not too loud from its sounds like in this clip which is cool-volume friendly ;)

  • did you use any extra effects or distortion or went directly into the laney ?

  • damn nice sound is there a store where i can find that amp?

  • Hey man how are you? I've heard this thing does Metal really well *obviously* but not so much Deathy/Scooped tone, what's your opinion on this? I've also got a TS9 that I think would boost it a bit.

  • @dmguitarist99 The amp can do a lot of things, i've played death metal with this amp and not had any problem, i just don't play death metal that often lol

  • This amp is so good and versatile, it's amazing. I recorded a few videos with this amp, and all I get is good words on the tone. It has clean clean, great jazzy lead tone, fantastic rock tones and killer metal tones. I love i :)

  • woow 1st to comment, sounds sweet m8, how are the cleans???

  • The songs in your myspace are recording with this amp? I´ve the Laney GH100l... I can obtain this sound?

  • BEAST!!!! Both tone and playing..... rock on brother.

  • The cemetery gates cleans were pristine!

  • strongerrrrrrrrrrr

  • can u post ur amp setting man?

  • Yeah! Dream Theater! \m/

  • I have the same amp, but with El34 tubes.

I really love your tone, more than my own... I was just wondering what kind of difference these tubes make...

Why did you choose to switch to 6l6? And why the Sovtek's?

  • how long have you been playing arvo?

  • Been playing 18 years

  • Ahh I noticed some Dream Theater in there... very cool. I see someone has been practicing their scales. LOL. Very Very good tone and sick playing man.

  • They only problem with VH and GH series is that they have a lot of high end. This amp isn't made for home playing. It will never sound as good alone as with a band, believe me. It cuts through everything and only tone that you hear then is a warm nice sound :)

  • This or a Peavey JSX?

  • @crittoprrr both are great. Havent played on JSX myself (although heard my friend playing it in a music store) but i find it's distortion "very satchy" :P. I own a Vh100r and it's one of the most versatile amps out there with a great, tight sound and beautiful cleans. But since these two are comparable i would check them both but imo go for vh100r...and its way cheaper :P

  • Thanks for reply..actually on the 'bay they're about the same. The cleans seem very bright, but as long as there's enough bass to keep them warm I'm happy...

  • vh100r is a million times more versatile...ive played both and my friend replaced his jsx with a laney gs100l so i think the laney is a much wiser choice.

  • this, i have it and this rock

  • Ive played both and was much more impressed with the Laney.

  • this.

  • @crittoprrr I have both, just because I couldn't find out which one to sell. :) These are great amps and you won't do a mistake by buying one or the other. In general, the VH 100R is brighter and cutting better through the mix, but sometimes it was slightly "disconnected" from the other instruments in the band. For my purposes, regarding our band's sound, the JSX fits in better. Moreover, it has a better loop and a separate lead channel, which I find better than just a gain boost.

  • @Mordotua Thanks man. That's some useful info (I think anyway). I wound up with the JSX myself, but I think either one would've made me pretty happy.

  • how did you put 6l6 in it? these are made for el34s

  • made for both El34 and 6l6. it has a switch on the back ;)

  • Cemetery Gates Riff Yeah !!!!!

  • this or a Dual rectifier?

  • narf, its a LANEY VH100, RECTIFIERS SUCKS

  • Thanks man

  • yeah rectifiers do, lol i had a dual. it broke down on me right before a show. so i went out. and bought a line 6 spider valve head, one of the best decisions i ever made, i wanted to buy the laney in the video but gc did have any at the time :{ maybe in the future. after all i only payed like 750 for my new head, and its fucking brutal :p

  • Apparently you don't make many good decisions then.

  • this rectifiers suck now unless if you can find an old rackmount dual rectifier those are really nice

  • i dont know, it sound cool

  • Hey !! Really beautiful!!! Is this the sound of the amps or do you use any pedals??

    Great!!!

  • that is fucking badass playing! HOLY SHIT!

  • should i buy this or a marshall jcm2000

  • laney

  • Dude, no question. The VH100R wupps the JCM2000. In my opinion, anyway.

  • @angrygoldfish I agree, partly because i love 6l6 amps.

  • @angrygoldfish Haha, i have the DSL100 and just found one of these 2nd hand that i am most likely going to buy :)

  • is this a channel switching amp, and if so, can you do it through a footswitch

  • yes

  • Hes good, but i hear his rythm guitarist is a vegetarian........... suspicious....

  • sounded awesome with the dream theater riffing.

  • Hm. I was thinking of getting an Engl, but then I heard this. Now I just don't know. This is pretty much EXACTLY the tone I'm looking for. Hmm...

  • whats the difference in the el34s or the 6l6 one in your amp?

  • amazing tone! sort of paul gilbert ish

  • Does anyone know any good metal settings for this amp? i just bought one

  • i REALLY like this.

  • also this amp sounds about 100 times better with fresh strings (like first 2 or 3 days), for some reason every other amp i've had is way too bright with fresh strings, which is surprising considering how bright it already is.

  • the clean sound at the end is fantastic. very versatile amp. gonna buy one ;)

  • cemetary gates sounds awesome

  • jezel i chodzi o technike jestes nr 1 in UK

  • duuuude i fuckin love the DT riff at 1:11 i freakin play it everyt ime i sound check stuff lolol its so groovy and you can blam it out

  • cool, what song is that man? cheers

  • :) I mean at 1:11 where the TheCr0wing says it Dream Theater

  • its strange deja vu off the scenes from a memory. its like half way through the song lol

  • You won't need an attenuator, because theres a simple trick on the vh100r:

You just need to set the effects loop switch to insert and you can use the return level knob as master volume.

Then you can crank the amp, turn the return level right down and it will sound great without making noises!

  • so i just short out the effects loop? or do i not even have to bother

  • i think you can use your effects as good as before but better try out if it works.

for further information you can also join the laney forum, but i think its not possible to put a link in a comment, is it?

  • I checked on the laney forum, it's true you don't need a power attenuator!! Fucking great!

  • So.. You can crank the amp as loud as you want if you set the effects loop volume to like 0.1.. What if you're using the effects loop?

And also, wont it damage the amp?

  • If you're using the effects loop, you won't be able to crank it ;)

but the amp will be alright, just look at the laney forum.

  • You won't saturate the power amp doing that. The fx return level just attenuates the signal from the preamp + fx. If the sound coming from your speakers isn't painfully loud, then you aren't cranked.

When you pick lightly (creating a small signal) into a tube preamp with lots of gain, you get a cleaner sound, when you pick hard (creating a larger signal), you get a broken up sound. The same principle applies to the power amp. You need a sufficiently large signal to saturate it.

  • I finally got mine, and i must say its decent sounding when attenuated, much better than any other tube amp at low volume. However its nothing compared to how it sounds at full volume. Even cranking this amp with an external attenuator you won't get the same sound simply because of frequency response, and human hearing.

  • You have some great shred skills my friend. And great application of phrasing to. I'm going to have to check out your band.

  • hey man, great playing!!!

is it too loud a 100watt head in a bedroom or you can play it at low volume?

  • 100watts is fucking loud. Tubes give the illusion of being louder because of the frequencies which are distorted. Most tube amps sound best when cranked at least 60% of the way up, but some are decent at lower volumes if they have a good master volume circuit. Keep in mind that human ears are sensitive to cut out lows and highs at lower volumes.

  • yeah but i wanted to know if it is necessary to have a power attuenuator like a thd hot plate (i think it is) in order to cranck the amp at a higher volume

  • By definition cranking a 100 watt amp means its not bedroom level.

  • i play this at 100 watts in my bedroom.

  • Hey man can you show us the EQ that you were using on this video?

    for ex:

the distortion levels and volume levels a what the EQ configuration?

  • great sound, you say you are using a Boss SD-1 as a boost in this video, does that mean your turning the level on that pedal way up while without turning the gain up?

And do you get a lot af extra nois without the NS-2 ?

I really like the tight sound you have and i'm thinking of buying this amp, but with a lot of amps you don't get a tighter sound with adding more gain.

  • awesome, thanks!

this amp is going to be my new one!!!

  • Sounds really great!!

Is this amp good for sound´s like drop A or drop B?

  • Yep it is, i use 7 and 8 strings, my lowest string on my 8 string is an F (below the notes you said) and its fine

  • @Arvobravo yeah, hell... I've been playing 18 years and I STILL suck member.

  • does this amp have a good balance with highs and lows im mostly looking for good bottom end

  • Yep, has a lot of bottom end. I Set my bass to 7 on the amp otherwise it muddies up things when playing as a band

  • Does it have a reverb that goes through a loop?

  • How do you mean?

  • Dude you're definitely pro. What guitar/pickups?

  • Cheers!

Ibanez RG1527 7 String with stock pickups

  • could this do Slayer thrash metal?

  • yeah

  • Yep, and if i was to play that sort of stuff i wouldn't change my tone, would just change the style of playing.

The amp can also do death metal...

  • fucking SICK lead tones jesus

  • very complex sounds.very good tone.good playing.nothing bad to say.

  • I really want a laney, but i need a combo type thing not like a full stack.

any ideas which amps are decent? i have no idea

  • Buy a 2x12 and slam a head on that, that way if you wish to expand you can do so easily :) or jsut get a combo either way is gonna be good.

  • Alright thanks man, ill keep that in mind but i just need some money first ahah

  • Jamie,

I am saving up for a Lc30 or Lc50. They are 30 and 50 watt combo amps that are very vesitile and sound great!

  • is this amp good for death metal?

  • Yea, i've jammed a lot of stuff with it Necrophagist, Decapitated, Nile and other stuff. Thing is though the tone stays the same for me, its just the style of playing which changes.

  • wow dude sick sound playing , sound, guitar, everything. you even threw in some dream theatre , very impressed.

  • is that pure amp distortion or u have any pedals in front cause i'm lookin for a heavy amp and i do liek the sound ur gettin out of this but i dont wanna have to go out and buy like 5 pedals to get wat im looking for

  • that sweet pick in the begining sounds so awesome. I never heard it come out of an amp like that!

    Play some opeth!

I want to buy an amp in the future, mostly metal, but I dont know where to start! Marshall.. engl, or laney are my options or a.... 5150, or mark 3. Or I was thinking of the total opposite and save up for a hiwatt.

  • He's got a TS808 boosting it =]

  • In this Video it was a Boss SD-1 i think.

  • fucking good pozdrawiam poland

  • your a fucking awesum keep up the good work

  • Hi, you are a very great guitarist with a very good setup ... What is the sovtek 6l6 model you use in your amp ??? Is it sovtek 6l6 wxt, 5881 or another ??? thanks for your response ..

  • Wow that sounds VERY good...

  • hey,

just wanted to add my 2 cents and say I too really enjoyed your playing and the tone you get in this vid. I just bought one (old leather handle model) and will give it a go with a Bad Monkey and some 6L6's I got lying round (Harma cryo STR-6L6GC and TAD 6L6WGC-STR) into vintage 30s. Couple o' questions? ... 6L6's tighten up the gain? is it 4 6L6's? have you tried just 2? What brand/model power tubes? Did you re-bias?

  • All i know is that they are 4 Sovtek 6L6's, i haven't changed the tubes or anything. I mean why bother if it sounds good haha. Same with re-biasing the amp. I've just left everything as it were when i got it.

I have no idea what preamp tubes are in it, i haven't bothered checking them to be honest as i'd rather not open the back of the amp up.

    No problem also :)

  • cheers man. can't wait to get home and play now ;^)

  • GNARLY!

    6l6's smoother than EL34's?

I'm looking for the liquid mark IV tone and I'm wondering if replacing my EL34's with 6L6's will help.

  • Could you let me know if you ever find out which preamp tubes you got in each position please? Sorry it's so many questions, but your tone is just From The Gods!!

Cheers man, keep up the great playing!

    J-P

  • Crazy fucking Train. I might get this amp when the time comes, but they've jacked up the price.

  • the amp sounds great, has great lows and the distortion sounds very full. I think your great playing made the amp sound deceptively nice though.

what kind of setup did you use? was it straight into the amp? also what kind of guitar did you use?

  • cheers

In this video it was Guitar>Boss SD-1>Boss NS-2->Amp.

SD-1 is now replaced by a Maxon OD808. Just using the overdrive pedal to tighten the sound more since i use 7 and 8 string guitars, Guitar in the video is an Ibanez RG1527

  • nice setup. are the pickups in the Ibanez stock, or are they from a higher end pickup company?

  • Stock

  • great fucking playing, buddy.

  • Amazing playing! What cabinet are you using?

  • Nothing to complain. Nice touch, vibrato, sound, playing in general :D

    + for DT!

  • are you using any pedals or is what we are hearing just the VH100R? are the tubes stock?

  • What are you using for fx?

  • hey man, f^&kin great playing, and tone!!

im just wondering is this amp basically a two channel GH?? what i mean is, does it also have the same gain structure as the GH100.cos im in dire need of a new amp but i HAVE to buy the right amp otherwise ill go broke for nothing haha!!

  • ive had the vc50 and a gh50l, and both sounded weak, scratchy and fizzy. you arent even anywhere near tube volume here because i can hear your strings. amazing tone

  • wow, nice playing and tone! waiting for a vc50 which should sound similar... did you plug any pedals in front?? what are your settings?? thanks man!

  • amazing demo !!!!

  • are you using an overdrive pedal?

  • good stuff man! What kind of guitar are you playing? Looks like a 7 string?
