@CHEVEL67NI to a degree ,yes, in countries that have lots of snow on a regular basis they have a snow shoe that stops the snow "balling" in the foot. In more temperate climates we tend to just put studs in, these just screw into 3/8 whitworth holes tapped into the shoe and can be taken in and out as required. Racehorses then have a very thin lightweight aluminium shoe that only last for the one race. As I was told as a young man "an ounce on the foot is worth a pound in the saddle"!

Are there different types of 'shoes for different types of terrain? Say snow 'shoes, mud 'shoes, etc.
