I wish you could give a old lady with Bad eyes good dirrections such as 5 red across 12 green down etc...I about went blind making mario in a shoe for my son...But he got it and loved it! Do you read your posts? My son has always loved Mario and Sonic., He is in the Navy He is a surgical tech and will be shipping out to Iraq soon. I think this is a great gift he would love. could you please explain to me is the ironing process a way of melting the beads together? is that the way to make them stay together.and where again can the pegboard be bought and is it a ceratin kind of peg board and is it any kind of bead?. Sorry Im a bit tech challenged and slow.

@catbme they're made with perler beads, you can buy them, the peg boards, and ironing directions at literally any craft supply store, or even wal mart. they also have a website you can order from, know that the beads will come in bulk and the colors will most likely not be separated. hope this helped!

After seeing some of your perler bead videos, I went out to my local AC Moore and got supplies and have already made a few things. It's a bit time consuming, and the hardest part is evenly melting the beads to my liking, but once it's done right, it's so AWESOME. Thanks for posting!!!

@YoshiJumper not very once there cooled down, there pretty stiff. i can hold an entire sprite by one bead once there cool. if you wanna really harden em up, as soon as your done ironing throw them in the freezer for half an hour, watch the holes though, if they contract to much, youll have to start over, or just force the ringh though, good luck

The reason why the Sonic sprite is so huge is that it was (at least in the first game) a 128x128 pixel sprite...yeah...that's 16384 pixels...tons of beads, though it is clear not all are used. Just imagine doing the mech from Death Egg in Sonic 2...that's like t-shirt sized.
