If the government wants to upgrade Via to high-speed rail, Air Canada's lobbyists will be at full force. This is something airlines don't like.

@mrjamesb562 They would go out of business way too fast! They are only targeting major routes. (Windsor - Montreal & Calgary - Edmonton)

I believe high speed train between Toronto and Montreal is more feasible than between 2 cities in Alberta...
If there is a train speed like Shinkensen 500, it will take less than 2 and half hours, even it stops Kingston!!!
