On the fast roads the diesel does slightly better, it town the Prius does hugely better, I suspect the new Prius would be better on the fast roads too - and the battery lasts the life of the car - early batterys dried out but they've fixed thst problem
Try this in town and the Prius will own the VW diesel on mpg's.
Also don't forget to factor in VW's reliability record. If you are buying second hand and you are out of warranty, repair costs could well overcome any marginal highway fuel economy advantage. Also, in many countries diesel is more expensive than petrol (gas).
I think they forgot to tell you that the Prius only takes 8.5 gallons to fill the tank, while the jetta takes 14.5 gallons. The Prius does have an 11.5 gallon tank, but you will never put that much gas in it.
Wait... They didn't forget to tell you that.
Well I won't forget to tell you this.

New MPG (tests are more realistic) City/Hwy/Combined
And to fabricate a prius you have to distroy the enviroment. The batteries in the prius aren´t recycleable and to produce and transport them from the manufacturer to toyota takes a lot of energy and resources. So if you buy a prius you ruin our planet. Jetta is up to 99% recycleable and it has better milage on the highway. Don´t deny it! The only advatage of the hybrid is in a city trafic but not on the highway! And i don´t even talk about a quality, styling and driving plesure.
With the Jetta TDI, it's more like a car than a computer (Prius). The Prius, me not even driving it EVER, (and praying that I will never ever drive it in my lifetime) just looks like a box with a battery and a sucky engine. The Germans definitely own this competition, remember that Prius owners and once you are done paying for your Prius, go to the VW dealership and hope that you will find a Jetta TDI on the lot, so that when you are driving it (hopefully), you don't look embarrassing.
haha, I love how it says "the jetta tdi gets better mpg than this car". Some of these prius drivers need to get off their high horses and realize there are simplier ways of getting better mpg other than going hybrid!
I can run my honda civic hybrid with manual transmission for 700miles (60mph) on the highway, and 840miles on rural roads (45mph) on a single tank of gas of 14 gallons. so don't even talk about fuel economy. The secret? use the 5th gear as much as possible.
