Nina Hagen was very fascinated with Zarah Leander, which I think is noticeable in her version of this song. Leander had this deep voice which Nina enjoys to channel sometimes. My point is, everything in a sense borrowed, inspired, an amalgam of different origins.
Nina ist der Hammer, der Song och und beede zusamm der Oberhammer!
And thats the magic way of Nina: allways being herself and in the same time always being open to all kinds of music and also thinking and ... living... :-)
@teescupounadriatico Great "Yma Sumac" & Great Nina Hagen!!! But in Italy Nina is like a Maria Callas....and not Lady Gaga , Madonna... :-))) Long Life to Nina Hagen!!!!
@PUNKTMEDIAPROJEKT but Maria Callas was more cliché than Yma Sumac and Nina Hagen isn't cliché, she's one of the few authentically originals artist of the world by far...this is one of the two reason because she reminds me of Yma ;-) the other is her amazing voice!
Thank you for the upload. I've recently gotten into Nina Hagen and I'm just loving everything I'm hearing. I wish I heard of her sooner but now is better then never. I just love her voice, it's so edgy and raw and different.
Was für ein geiles cover. Was für ein geiler Uuuuurrrrrr-Alter Text (Googelt nach Zarah Leander!) . Was für ein geiles Lied. Danke Nina Hagen mit Band!
What an epic cover. What an immemorial Lyric (Googel for Zarah Leander - Der wind hat mir ein Lied erzählt). What an awesome Song! Thank you Nina Hagen and Band.
@RoamingWind777 how is Madonna a 'product'??? who's product? its not like her image was invented by record company bigwigs, she always has been in control of her own image..... i like both, they are different, i do think nina has more talent and is more interesting, but madonna has had a very varied and interetsing career and has bought several music genres into the mainstream that were not... i dont see how thats being a 'product'
@snowball1988 Well, she was not at first, and in 90-s she was not, but it's a long process of turning into a product. I stopped listening to her since her Hard Candy, which was already far from bringing mainstream... She just repeated that tastless r-n-b- which was mainstream many years before she discovered or rediscovered it. I was waiting for the depth like Ray Of Light, but now I can see it's hardly going to happen.
Dare not compare the pale american little freek Madonna and the german generous completaly excentric NINA.... Both are from the same generation but Nina has guts ! Nina has got it she is the boSSSSS
Oh come ON!!! Nina (I have met her several times in L.A. personally back in the 80's) has more talent, impact, bravado, and sheer gobsmack personality than Madonna will ever muster EVER. Madonna ripped off Nina with pink wigs, big blonde pony tails and black cartoon eyebrows before some of you were born. There are a dozen websites that show how Madonna has ripped off artists from Marilyn Monroe to Audrey Hepburn, for cripes sakes. Her only talent is ripping people off. Nina is always NINA. Uber
Long before Madonna had a baby and discovered mysticism, Nina Hagen had a baby and discovered mysticism. Nunsexmonkrock was released in 1982, before anybody even knew who Madonna was. Der Wind hat mir ein Lied erzaehlt is not a rip-off of Frozen; Frozen is a rip-off of Antiworld and UFO. Nina first covered a Zarah Leander song (also written by Bruno Balz) in 1983. Ray of Light came almost twenty years after the fact.
Come on guys,I love Nina, really and Madonna is not my favourite at all but a blind man can see that Nina´s song should bring her back in the charts with some actually visuell effects and sounds from what´s going on in the charts. For me Madonna was the example they looked at.They´re near the same age and Madonna had a big comeback with Frozen. And even Der Wind...don´t sound like Frozen for the first moment it´s even a slow midtempo number with ups and downs in it.
oh yeah well christina aguilera ripped off britney's drunken VMA performance a year later. all has been done. why is it so cool to wear a fedora with tight pants and space-age boots? because the modern era is over! the turn of the century will be the "modern ecclectic period," i'm coining it here and now.
Is this the zarah leander? 2nd time nina paid tribute to the late great swedish chanteuse zarah leander. she also beginning ot sound like zarah as well.
I'd like to see Nina and Madonna on stage at the same time, in a battle of the voices, and a battle of who is real.
I think, by the end of that battle, Madonna will be huddled in a corner, crying, like the little girl she is.

First of all this song is from 2000 and not Madonna ripped Nina off,it´s Nina ripping of Madonna because Frozen was before this song
hinrg77 2 years ago
Your argument would make sense, if this song actually sounded anything like "Frozen".
