  • SilkyTP I agree with your summary of Aikido, but shouldn't the Uki really try to strike the Tori? I mean no disrespect but most of the people looking at this demo don't understand how this technique would apply to self defense. All the same I am a vary big fan of Aikido.

  • @lsavalla: Of course - at least ultimately. But that's not what's going on here. This is a demonstration of key points in performing a technique; NOT a demonstration of "look how effective and devastating this technique is". By practicing from static, we learn posture, balance, energy and technique. As we move up in our experience of aikido, things become more dynamic and there is more energy and more flow. What we're looking at here is analogous to a "how to" video.

  • shomenuchi is sliding with ur forward foot not stepping with your back foot

  • @UrMomzDED

says who? Both are ways to strike, it would be ridiculous to insist on one.

  • @Derukugi2 alright, you've convinced me

  • @UrMomzDED

LOL, that is something one rarely hears on Youtube. Very aiki.

  • Whats the Japanese Aikido name for a throw?

  • @Tstar1513 nage koshi means hip, and nage means throw

  • gary get pissed??

  • I've actually got a question.

Is it really relalistic to stop an strike even before the oponnent (uke) really starts to attack? Wouldn't Uke just stop the attack and move backwards?

But i like the rest of the technique, maybe you could give the throw more power with turning your hip in an downward twist. In the Video it looks a bit static.. but this is just a move so i'm not sure

  • @DunklerProphet1985 In a word - no! For aikido to work the attacker must be fully committed to the strike. The Japanese call it 'living under the sword'. If you move too early then the attacker will simply adjust and redirect attack. Too late and you've got a headache. But get it right...Re more power - at pace Koshinage is simply devastating. You don't need more power - your body will provide all the power the technique needs. Attacker, if untrained, is likely to be visiting A&E anyway!

  • @DunklerProphet1985 It is a realistic thing to do but requires timing, just like anything else. There is a moment of commitment when you can "cut short" an attack before it gains enough power. It's a concept called sen no sen. So in essence, you're not stopping it before it starts, rather, as soon as it starts.

  • Nice anology Silky!! :) i agree 150 percent!!

    6th kyu Aikido :)

  • i know where is the wrong,

morihei ueshiba was perfectly and now they try to do like m.h but the partener is helping them, this is aikido for this i practic aikido-life,aikido in life no fake and i know all i do and all i cant do this is a fake video i will post a video to see how i practice aikido

  • where i can find AIKIDO in indonesia? thats awfull

  • Gary, nice demonstration as always. For those who criticize by comparing it with other martial arts and calling it bullshit, you do not understand aikido. Those of us who train, learn the philosophy and understand that the goal is not to "kick ass", rather, to neutralize a conflict, leaving your opponent unharmed. In addition, the techniques that Gary demonstrates are equivalent to giving music lessons. Once you learn how to play, and practice, you one day become ready to play in a symphony.

  • @SilkyTP Very well said my friend :)

  • the uke is helping you,it`s fake please try to do this in a real fight and then post on youtube

  • oh believe you me, we wish we could man.

  • i cant imagine any of this in real situation...

  • a person raising his hand with a stick aiming for your head.

  • um yea and i can see that person hitting your head directly without being able to respond in time.

even if you can respond the best you can do is probably block your head with your arm.

this aikido thing is train in fake situation. If you want to perform well at real situation, you must also train in real situation.

i find something like this "watch?v=BlpOCUq3nYo" more "real"

  • you knw, this technique is not the only move u can do, if u can't stop the strike before, u can blend with the strike after. but u need to practise aikido if u wan to see wat it can really do. it is ahrd to explain

btw, can u type the title of the vid or sumthing?

  • maybe watch other martial art that is used in real situation like this "watch?v=BlpOCUq3nYo"

  • do u have a title to this vid link u r showing?

  • what do you mean by that?

if you want to know the title, you can just check it out. I don't see why i need to tell you the title all i wan't you to see is just a "martial art" that's all.

  • but just in case you need a title before watching a random video

    it's called "Muay Thai knockouts"

  • Yes duhnada thats the point to intererupt before its gets momentum enough to hurt! Lol :D

  • I like the fact you keep the politics out of this. I know exactly why, exactly. That letter posted on a certain someone's site caused all of this mess directed at us in Orlando...

  • what he didn't show is that you can actually break that arm . most tutors don't teach that kinda things tho

  • this is taken koshi guruma nice diviation

  • Finally expert village made a good video. All their Judo videos are crappy. Good thing that they know some Aikido in exchange...

  • Technique seems cool, but what attack is it defending against? A palm to the chin?

  • shomenuchi is hit to the forehead.

  • Picture I down cut with a katana, it's pretty much the same thing only with a knife hand. He's interupting the strike before it ever gets high enouph to have momentum.

  • @Duhnata Excellent comment. I have been in Aikido for 5 years now and see the concept of interupting the attack in almost every technique. This reminds me of Bruce Lee saying that the translation of Jeet Kun Do in cantonese was "Way of the intercepting fist"

  • A great technique for randori.

  • Its Makoto Kyokai Aikido teached By Larry Reynosa Sensei

  • it s judo

  • Nope. It's aikido.

  • bellissima tecnica anche se questo non è aikido ma jujitsu

  • don´t be upset you missed once... it´s very hard technique to do 100% perfect.

    But it is good

  • Thank you. That was the the last session I taped and man was I wore out. Not to mention my koshinage's are a little out of practice. No one to blame by myself. Have a great day!

  • Gary? Is dat you?
