You know what Henri Ford did after he discovered that the rear axel of the T-Ford never broke down? He replaced it for a cheaper less reliable one!

That spirit is stil in Fords of today. Make it work for a couple of years and make a lot of money. Don't make it good. You can see that back in the high reduction in value when you want to get rid of that heap of trash after a couple of years. You will find out.

@giedbk A very good valid point. I will agree with everything you have said because its the most truthful here. Fords are NOT around to last. I don't know why people get this weird fantasy that they are very reliable and well built. You don't buy a Ford for those reasons. The ill-fitting body panels, the bent rods for bonnet props, the, rubber trims that fall off, the delphi cheap nasty parts, the cheap die cast plastic are all strong contributing factors for the reduction in the price.

EUROPEAN fords are one of the most reliable cars. VW and audis are not. the ford s-max(and galaxy) got an a- in reliablility. the mondeo is quite the same car.

VAG are so unreliable they sell the TDi in the USA & across the world without complaints. Ford are so reliable as it were... they can't shift TDCis over to the USA because of the appalling reliability record!!! The S-Max & Galaxy was voted as Britains most unreliable MPV with more than %20 of them sold to consumers coming back with Engine, clutch & PCM/ECU problems. It probably got an A- because when they did the review the car was a hot-fresh model & didnt stand the test of time, get it?

Fords are like more expensive versions of Kias & Daewoos. Plastics seem fine at eye-level but wonder lower down & things start to fall off like middle arm rests & seat levers etc. You are a mug if you buy a Ford!

@MattieKirby1 - Honda is the most reliable of cars in Britain. Ford are not, in 1-20 in the What car UK reliability survey they came below 10 - average. If you read enough owners reviews about them you will know TDCi's are the least reliable of Diesels. The 2 most unreliable cars in the UK are the Renault Espace & Ford S-Max

@jaffacake1578 The last time I messed around with the cheap build quality in a Ford I broke the middle arm rest while on filming. The only cars that ever had antennas falling off or trims being savaged by the rolling brushes in the car washes were only ever Ford. Don't try to tell me its German quality because it isn't. A BMW or Audi in a wash has never started undressing everything like a Ford does. I'm surprised I managed to leave the car wash with the wheels and doors still attached to it!

Used to have one of these and was hit up the rear by a Passat which was badly damaged. The Mondeo only had a slightly bent bumper. It was almost too strong;my 3 year old daughter and I had whiplash because it didn't crumple like the Passat.

Safety aside though it was a crap car. If it could have broken or falled off it did. It leaked more than my old garden shed!

You are probably right about it being a bad car but I still think it's overated. I now have a Citroen C5 Tourer and it's a much better all round car, especially quality.

As for the head-rests mine was adjusted correctly and my daughter was in the recommended Britax isofix seat so I don't know what else I could do to count against whiplash in what was really a minor shunt.

but even if the mondeo hit the passat then it would crumple it's just all cars dont crumple as much at the back.Also the people didnt get whiplash in the passat as in was front on for them.furthermore i think the passat wouldnt be much better...

They are terrible vehicles for bad seals and leakages and thier interior build is not the best. I had a Ford van and driven more Fords than I have any other, They are far over-rated for what they really are. Ive always had leaking or silly plastics trims falling off from the dash and surrounds. It just happens.

2008 Mondeos, are very good looking cars, and you could pick them up for a good buy after 3 years which is a bonus but, I wouldn't go about paying like 22K for a brand spanking new one, you loose far too much money on them. They are ok as company cars but I wouldn't own one, they can be very faulty cars at times.

I once drove a black one of these in TDCi, with tinted windows in Zetec spec. I think it was a 1.8 125? Its drives like all the other brand new cars Ive driven back to customers. it feels no better in quality than sitting in a 2006 Kia Carens like my grandads one. So whats the big hoo-har about the 2008 Ford Mondeos quality? Its not worth the hype, if it was 18K for a Titanium spec model I would say yes, but 25K!!!! No way, far too-much!

Ive recently heard about thier middle arm rests falling off, Window condensation, seatbelt retractors, body seals, & a bottomless list of undiagnosable ECU & frustrating electrical faults. Inside info says if this common ECU fault occurs & cuts out whenever it choses to, there is no steering or brakes basically, the driver has no control over its path of destruction! It can also lose essential engine performance too, thats really not good news for a 2008 car, change of car was the right thing!
