~ Area of France = ~ area of Ukrania. All other areas liberated - Italy, Sicily, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, & N. Africa = ha ha ha! a lot of area, not to mention the huge Pacific & CBI (China, Burma, India) Theaters.BTW, we were never taught the USA or just the western Allies won WWII by our/themselves & have nothing but respect, empathy &also sorrow for what the citizens of the USSR endured

USSR was MAIN theatre of WW2. But without USA/British Commonwealth in World War 2, Russia would be fighting the Axis of Germany/Japan/Italy and their allies on Land, Sea and Air - ON THEIR OWN. I have deep respect and admiration for the Soviet Union (CCCP) in the 'Great Patriotic War' but WW2 was an Allied effort.

It is a fact which no one can deny that Mother Russia defeated the most vile enemy the world had ever seen almost single handedly. The contribution of America and Britain was miniscule by comparison. I'm Scottish and my Grandfather sailed on convoys to Russia with supplies for their people. My mother told me of the suffering of the Russian people during the siege of Leningrad. It made me cry when I was a boy to think how Russia had suffered so much.

don't be an idiot. Of course americans wasn't so good comparing to Nazies or Soviet, so U.S. have to pave all road through France and Germany with dead G.I. bodies, and burned out obsolete Sherman tin cans, but still, they provide more than enough troubles to keep almost hundred divisions busy on western front, and that was U.S.A. who keep Japan from war on two fronts.

Dear friend,american role in europe was quite peripherial,and don't even try to compare with glorius Red Army.The greatest contribution of americans was in enormous number of death soldiers(due to panic) and even more in POW..HISTORIA MAGISTRA VITA EST!!!

Also, don't underestimate Lend-Lease role - it was the only on cause, why soviets have enough trucks, fighter and bomber planes right in time, when it was needed the most. Don't call U.S. part in WW-II "petty" learn history better.

That was an Allied victory, not someone's own.

Point is, Soviets destroyed 85% of all Axis forces in Europe. And soviets destroyed more japanese than USA. But yes, when it comes to lend lease, that wasnt only american also UK. It helped, though amount of fighters and bombers wasnt that great (though it was good quality). Trucks got there when needed. Many tanks got there to, though most were light and outdated, no match for german tanks or russian conditions. Lets compare ww2 with boxing. Germany vs USSR. Where USA and UK is pain in ger Ass.

But obvioulsy it did not freeze the Soviet tanks and artillery and the Soviet soldiers were walking around in well-padded uniforms when the Germans were freezing their asses off in summer uniformsand their equipment stopped working. So much for German intelligence and planning.

What prompted this comment? Americans better be careful...blah blah blah. Who are you to be making such statements? Unless you are a Russian policy maker you can't back up such statements. Perhaps you are. Either way, if you remember your history so well you will know that America helped liberate much of Europe FROM the Germans, and put Sherman tanks in the hands of Soviet armies. The only thing C.C.C.P protected was herself. America is no warmonger.

I don't agree with Armand, but yours is horrible. after russian policy. America helped but the tides of the war was already turned and was a little late to make a real difference. The Sherman tank was a horrible tank compared to the Nazis and Russians. I don't get your statement "put Sherman tanks in the hands of Soviet armies".

"Much of Europe"... You call northern France and a small part of Holland "much of Europe"? Soviet people has liberate not only Soviet Union (that consisted AT LEAST of Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova and smaller Baltic states), but Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania, Austria, Serbia, Bulgaria and a large part of Germany, too! May be, it is difficult to understand for Americans, but it is true.
