The idea for a great short film is there, but I agree with the comment that it's too long. The comic timing is slightly off on most of it, but I can totally see what you're trying to do so I did find it funny...I do actually wish I'd thought of this myself already...
Truly a good short film. However, a bit long. A lot of the same narrative elements were played several times. We knew he was late getting ready, getting breakfast, and then again when he's listening to the music. The ending was easy to guess because this was his 28th time being late, so what was different 27 times before. Also, it reminded me of a Daffy Duck and Porky Pig cartoon with the same concept. Still, an enjoyable film.
@alwaysposh I agree, but we had a very short amount of time to come up with the idea and write the script. We didn't go through too many rewrites. If we'd had more time we probably would have trimmed it down some. Thanks for the comment.
@alwaysposh We came up with the idea and wrote the script in less than a week, and we were pretty happy with the results given that short timespan. I'd agree that it could be a little shorter. If I had it to do all over again I'd probably cut some out of the beginning to get to the next day a little sooner.
@ZexkStudios There's some other, less expensive, animation software out there. We now use Anime Studio Pro for a lot of animation, which we were able to pick up from Tigerdirect for $30.
nice work, me and my buddies do the same type of movies, we also use 2 panasonic DVX100B cameras, final cut pro, sountrack pro, shake and motion. its good to see other filmakers, keep up the good work. oh and check out our movies called: "And then it hit" "Some fighting Game" let me know what you think
If you read some of the previous comments, I go into depth about this. We used Final Cut Pro to edit it along with some effects using Photoshop and After Effects.
I do have a couple more shorts I'm going to post in the near future. One is a documentary about the Extreme Stunt & Driving Team based here in Florida, the other is a Discovery Channel Spoof that was shown on TV. The camera we used was a Sony PD140, if I remember correctly. I now own a Panasonic DVX100B.
I liked it, I liked it a lot. My brother and I are about done with our short film. It's approx: 30 minutes long. How did you compress yours? I'd really like to know. PS: don't beat yourself up too much over the lighting.
Compressor is a program that comes bundled with the Final Cut Pro Studio. I know that's what I used to compress our video to upload to YouTube, but I'm unsure of the exact settings. You kind of just have to play around with the settings until you can get the best quality that YouTube will accept.
Yes, the lighting is the most major thing I would have done better if we had more time/money. Unfortunately we only had a week to put this short together from script to post production (we had about a month to edit it), so the lighting suffered. We did have some lighting (i.e. the nighttime blue look when the dog is pulling the power cord out of the wall).
Nicely done, at some points it got a bit 'easy' (points where you get distracted easy) like in his house with the dog. But that's just nothing special.
For editing, I use Final Cut Pro 5.1, but Adobe Premiere Pro is also good. After Effects is an excellent program to learn as well, because you can do a lot of cool stuff with it (that's what we used for our opening credits on this film).
Well with all due respect to the positive feedback, they're ridiculous and painfully unfunny. They're very well animated and edited, just not funny. They don't do the rest of the film justice, which IS funny.
It's your decision, of course, but I'm telling you...
The opening credits were amazing. I'm just getting into making short films and things, I really have no expensive cameras or anything. If you watch any of my videos you can probably tell. But anyway I was just wondering if there were any programs/cameras you could turn me on to. Thanks in advance for any advice you can give. This video should have alot more views. There are people out there who spent 2 minutes throwing together a piece of crap and get put on VH1.

Let's assume that not shaving was also a fireable offense. As for the brushing and eating, well, he's a moron.
