well done, but being a musician myself, its mildly irritating to hear the melody being ever so slightly off. i wouldnt be able to do any better, but thats my only gripe
Anybody who dislikes this video does not understand what is captured by this video.
Within this jumble of lights and noises, the maker is trying to communicate with us. Communicate the simplicity of music. Music is everywhere, and it doesn't take a huge understanding of how it works to appreciate it's message.
Understanding sure helps, though.
But what does it mean? What does it mean to understand?
This is amazing and all but it's also a bit offensive. Really emotional song kinda destroyed by the tone quality these machines make. Haha, still can't help but laugh at the genius of it though. Well done :P
Has anyone made music on multiple 8-bit computers playing in harmony? Like, a C64, Atari800, PC+Adlib, for example.. I guess it'd be close to impossible to sync them to play the same song. But you would get a good variety of sounds and channels..
House of the Rising Sun is better, but this is still darned good and had me chuckling loud enough to disturb the whole office. Just as well it was lunch time... ;)
The only thing that hurts me a bit to see is the 8" floppy drive used like that; those things are hellishly rare and somewhat sought after for archiving old media these days.
@InfernalSatan It's the speed of the stepper motors. The faster you spin a stepper motor, the faster it's gears turn and the actual mechanism works. The motor spins around so fast that the air around it is manipulated and it creates a sound wave of various tones.

How do you program a scanner to do this? Is there some program that allows it to follow a MIDI file or what?
