the interviewer, who i think probably voices what many people thought, clearly doesn't realise that bowie is clever enough to run circles round this way of thinking - of course he understood that he couldn't be ziggy forever. hence adaptability, and new roles, new personas. bowie's genius was in his ability to constantly reinvent himself.
