The thing about jokes is that they're not above criticism; this joke doesn't bother me because it's offensive and makes light of a really serious issue, it bothers me because it's boring and makes light of a really serious issue in a completely stupid, uncreative way and because of that people are laughing at it and liking it for the wrong reasons.

The joke comes from the fact that of course it's never justified! It seems clear to me from the tone that the clip is not advocating domestic violence. If anything, it highlights how wholly unjustified it is.

Point taken, but I think about 5% of the population can appreciate that. There are quite a lot of people who don't pick up on irony- eg. I used to work at a youth centre and there were 16 year old kids who actually thought Ali G was cool and NOT in an ironic way. I imagine if they saw this they would think the guy was a bit of a hero for giving her a battering.
