I seen where you can use a xbox to get access to media center at a different location in your house and I found an app on the android market that works as a remote for media center. It's called myRemote.
@2011GeekTech Ya, with the XBox thing, it's called Media Center Extender. We haven't messed around with that yet, but we might here very soon to test it out. Also, I was going to try an Android app called RemoteDroid. How is MyRemote working?
@PCAddictsLive Thanks for the reply and the heads up on the stream tonight! So far myRemote seems to be working very very well. I'm just guessing that the other ones you said will work just as good. Looking forward to the update video, good job as always on all your stuff!
@2011GeekTech It's been GREAT!! We have been wanting to do an updated video, but I was waiting until I finish my main computer's build (that is tonight - streaming live - check the site for details). No plans for switching back anytime soon!
A guy I work with has an OTA antenna set up. He loves it, he has it set up mounted with an adjustable platform so can change the angle and pick up different channels.
@SickDreamProductions Yea, there is ways of doing that. I wish it would help in my area to get the farther stations, but the other stations are far enough away that it does not help much for me. I would need to put the antenna up higher, but the stations that we need is coming in great with my setup. Sometime, I might make a video to show people my setup.
@SickDreamProductions I saw that motorized swivel here at a local store, seems like a cool idea. I tried turning mine around, and it seems like I get the same channels, but very low signal strength.
@advcomp2019 Yeah the BBC from UK. at @11:09 you showed TunneFree MCE which is a plugin for Windows Media centre but I would wondering if you can watch live bbc channels such as BBC1 or BBC2. I use it to watch bbc tv live without going to the website but I live in England
@techfan42 I was not the person in the video. Plus I am not sure what the UK does for OTA channels. I would think there might be a site talking about it. @PCAddictsLive and I lives in the midwest of the USA.
@techfan42 No, the antenna connects to a normal coax splitter in my basement, then to all the rooms. The living room, it connects to a TV Tuner card installed in the computer, then out the video card to the TV.
If you need help with picking an antenna if you are going to switch over to OTA, you can join the PC-Addicts IRC channel, and talk to me.
You just need to get me the link from TVFool's Signal Analysis, and please use the Coordinates because address can be off since some places does not get right on the address.
DVI is HDMI without audio....DVI came before HDMI did but they both provide the same video quality all the way up to 1080p. so your older plasma is an older model but it is in fact HD
I've been thinking about this for a while now. I'm getting sick of paying northwards of $130 a month for HD television. That's money I could be using to pay off my student loans and the balance on my credit card, or just to pad my perpetually empty wallet. Coincidentally, I'm putting together a media PC out of a bunch of spare parts I got from work. Adding OTA reception capabilities to it would be all kinds of sweet.
@HensaStralem Now that is good thinking! Way to go! I would love to see your setup when you are done. We hope to build a media PC very soon, and I can use some ideas/tips!
Where and how did you get plugins for media center?
I'm using boxee and there is a setting to use keyboard only which works great with my small wireless keyboard and no mouse. Its way better than with a mouse. Plus I believe boxee does all the same stuff as media center but i could be wrong.
this is quite common here in the uk,as you can pull in all you want over the net, i have a media box running mythbuntu, and also a hd hdr with all free standard and hd channels.
@gotbletu I know FTA is legal, but some people depending on where you live call blackboxes the boxes even if it is software or hardware changes that you connect to the paid satellite or cable tv to get paid stuff for free.
I know around here FTA receivers are called FTA receivers and nothing else. Plus I don't see FTA receivers in any local stores too. I live in Iowa, and I have been to three big cities and seen no FTA receivers. Same with smaller towns with TV shops.
@advcomp2019 you can buy them online also, just cuz they dont sell them where u live doesnt make them illegal to own. Blackboxes is just a borrow term from back in the days b4 digital cable came, or also known as a descrambler. Samething if u buy a PC (legit) and use it for file sharing (not legit)
@gotbletu Yes, I know FTA is legal. Yea, but around here blackboxes are those they even get passed to the illegal stuff still, but I have never heard of a FTA receiver being called a blackbox tho. I know that each part of the world calls things different. So you should have made people know what you mean then.
what type of tuner do you have for your computer?
Schardt12 2 weeks ago
@Schardt12 It's a hauppauge something LOL - can't remember the exact model, but really it's nothing real special... standard TV tuner card, PCI

techfan42 7 months ago
@techfan42 As far as I know, the OTA antenna is connected to a TV tuner in the computer. There is a difference in FTA and OTA.
