  • Damn clapping makes me not be able to hear it

  • I like Bonnie's version of this song much better!!

  • SUPER

  • I love Carpenters but this quality was not good

  • To Randy Schmidt (Author of Little Girl Blue) Karma's a bitch!

  • all I can say is wow what a talent

  • takes me back, so far back - what an alto! This was our "song" remember, when?

  • takes me back, so far back - what an alto! This was our "song" remember?

  • Today someone uploaded a bunch of Carpenters videos on youtube that uses Karen to proselytize their religion. After the song is done It says Karen sent a letter from heaven to all her family and friends and it goes on and on about how to be saved. I found out by clicking on the "Rainy Days and Mondays" uploaded today and then clicked on the channel and they had done the same thing with most of the big Carpenters hit videos. I would contact Richard about it if I knew how.

  • I remember I was about 12 yrs old when when My older sister drove us past Karens parents house in Downey, the location where she passed. I guess it was a few hours after the discovery of her body and I recollect, the whole street was blocked off by police and media trucks we're parked along Firestone Blvd. I said to myself, wow...what a big beautiful house!

  • I would like to put this one out there & roll the Dice for the world to read & see what they think of this idea. I would Love more than anything in the world for Richard Carpenter to get the Carpenter band together (including Herb, & Burt who were a Big part) & do a tribute show for Karen &Tony. Why not one more time, for the good old times. Everyones getting older each & every year, I really believe in my heart that this would be special & Karen could be included on a Big Screen with Pictures

  • i will always remember!

  • Otro nivel

  • Karen sounds great doing the live version of this song.

    R.I.P. KC !

  • lo maximo............no habra otra cantante como tu karen gracias

  • As for The Carpenters & The Hall of Fame. Look friends, The Carpenters did their own thing, ONE BIG THING, that people should know is they didn't sign up to be on anyones team, or kiss anyones ass. They recorded, did touring galore around the world,, recieved grammies, best selling American group between 1970-80. Richard even says,"you dont have to like us, but you can't say we're not good" They we're ORIGINAL, & that pisses people off still today. Even Donny & Marie has seem to forget KC & RC.

  • beautiful; she is so perfect

  • karen was an angel jus passin thru god jus sent her for a while an took her back

  • the year i was born

  • year i was born but such a fab voice it wraps you up in its warmth and caress

  • There will never be another voice quite a beautiful and distinct as Karen Carpenter's.

  • @rustydj KOREK!! from an AVID-#1 fan of Karen

  • The cameraman/diector should be hung..what kind of awful side and long view angles were they going for..

  • fantastic

  • I didn't know they performed in Belgium. Somebody know when that was? And where exactly?

  • pleaste take a listen on my cover of superstar

  • the voice of an angel. so talented with no effort

  • A voz da minha juventude. quanta coisa coisa me traz. lindo

  • It was allways Karen, everything about the group was Karen-in his heart Richard knows it was all Karen.

  • i thought i was the only one who said she was an angel...i am in the music bizzz ask any female singer about her voice ....oh and she could play the drums too.

  • TOMMY CALLAHAN IS IN THE FRONT ROW.

  • This song makes me cry everytime I hear it ..that is how powerful this song is !

  • Adorava os Carpenters, embalou meus sonhos de infância, dancei muit ao som deles nos bailinhos infantis, tenho saudades dela

  • She was beautiful and talented, hoes like lady ga ga and ke$ha take note. This is how you sing , this is talent! No stripping necessary!

  • @trollhater70s All of these skanks should take notice that singing talent alone will take you as far as you can go. Keep the clothes on, and leave something to the imagination.

  • Os Carpenters marcaram a minha mocidade. Saudades daqueles dias tão doces.

    Karen, amamos você.

  • MsFuture, you should post more, your passion is appreciated, but please, NOT ALL CAPS! Breathe; settle down, relax, the type... nice, ake239: 卡倫有天使的聲音

  • 高校生のとき右目をけがして手術しました。今とちがい2カ月も入院し治療し今も片目です。その入院してベットでの時にラジオから聞こえてきたのがこの曲で今でもこの曲を聞くとその時のことを思い出して、がんばろうと思えるようになります。今はもう聞けないカレンの歌がここで聞けてうれしいです。

  • por que as pessoas tao talentosa morrem tão cedo, porque

  • This was my favorite Carpenter song. Karen rocked on this one!!!

  • What a superb voice. It would have been nice if the camera man had zoomed in to Karen's lovely face.

  • WOW!! KAREN CARPENTER WAS TRULY GIFTED. I REMEMBER CRYING AND BEING REALLY HURT AND CONFUSED WHEN SHE PASSED. I WAS FOURTEEN AND HAD NEVER EXPERIENCED LOVE YET BUT HER SONGS TOUCHED MY HEART AND SOUL SO DEEPLY THAT LISTENING TO THEM TODAY IS LIKE "SWEET DEJA VU." LUTHER VANDROSS DID HIS VERSION AND I AM LUTHER FAN, BUT KAREN'S VERSION IS THE ORIGINAL ONE THAT HOLDS A SPECIAL PLACE IN MY MEMORY.

  • After Karens death the family agreed to film a tv movie about Karen and her illness. They filmed in Downey CA at the house Karen grew up in her parents still lived there. A crew member asked to use the home phone and they said yes and left him in the office. On the desk were stacks of photo albums. And the majority were photo's of gifts sent to the Carpenter with the date and who sent it.But there was one shocking album with dozens of pictures of Karen in her casket. SAD!

  • All this time I thought this was an original L. Vandross tune. I love both arrangements from two great performers.

  • Haunting melody. This song still makes me sad. I was pining over my first love when this song came out. But, even though this performance may have been in 1974, the song actually was a hit in 1971.

  • who's the drummer ?

    he's good!

  • OMG! so beautifull !!!!

  • Some memories there.

  • It's very unfortunate that Karen bid farewell at such a young age. She could have had so much ahead.

  • LOVE YOU KAREN

  • for karens illness and problems in her life her voice never let her down FANTASTIC

  • "Ladies and gentlemen...Nispey Russell!!!"

  • Karen is a SUPERSTAR :) I really love her ;)

  • I REMEMBER WHEN THEY CAN TO CRANSTON RHODE ISLAND . JUNE 1973 I WAS 10 YRS OLD. IT WAS A SOFTBALL GAME . THE WPRO ALL STARS - CARPENTERS. ALL I RMEMBR WAS AFTER THE GAME . THEY SERVED HOT DOGS AND BURGERS. SHE CAME UP TO ME AND SAID WHOS THIS GOOD LOKING GUY AND SHE PUT HER ARMS AROUND ME IN THE LINE SHE ASK SRE YOU A HOT DOG GUY OR A BURGER I SAID I LIKE BURGERS. SHE SAT NEXT TO ME THIS WENT ON FOE A ABOUT 45 MIN TO 1 HOUR THERE WAS MORE BT NOT SPACE HERE. I'LL NEVER FORGET .

  • @46singledad46 Aww how sweet. ^_^

  • @46singledad46 what was that more to say? i;m curious. in 1973, i was 13y.o then. . . i always hear karen's songs in our household then because, twas my +papa's favorite

  • I'm 44. I remember my big brother who was 18 at that time was hearing and hearin all the time in my country Bolivia, I was 8...I never forget. They were the best.

  • COOOOOOOOL THANX VERY MUCH

  • Karen, you were truly amazing! You will ALWAYS be remembered.

  • I think this is one of Karen´s best songs.. that´s really her song and NOONE is able to sing that song that way. Sounds amazing!

  • i love it ... this music ever

  • @shingo29likethis Besides Karen, that drummer is really tearing it up on drums.

  • linda musica !

  • We do like goochie though, and boobs for that matter. ...lmao.

  • Why do you ask ?

  • one of their best songs!

  • What is so sad, is Karen Looked skinny there...one person told her she looked fat...and that's all she wrote...the anoxeriz was born.....she looked fine and yet someone thought she needed to lose more weight....and she lost that battle! She lost the weight...and we lost her!

  • Por qué ??..se fué..

  • i love KAREN !! she is so beautiful and talented !!

  • Gourgeous voice!

  • @vegas787

    Are you a fag ?

  • @arnoldsergio1 are you an ass?

  • Essa cantora é nossa inspiração musical. Ela foi a maior cantora que este mundo já viu. Sua voz é incomparável !!

  • Most moving song I ever heard. No singer has ever touched me like Karen Carpenter can. We will always miss this special lady too much.

  • the great always die young, what a waste, Karen was an angel from God , a true talent from above and a voice the angels needed back,,

  • Michael :(

  • Music makes me believe in God.

  • such a hunting voice. reminds me of my wife when she sings this song.

  • I don't believe in angels or in God but Karen's voice does sound divine.

  • @ExposingTheGOP How would you define 'diving' then if you don't have and idea of who GOD is?

  • @ExposingTheGOP i dont belive in god either...just sumthing random

  • @ExposingTheGOP me either really, but if he does exist, he took his angel back too soon......probably wanted the best near him.

  • @ExposingTheGOP Your a worthless piece of trash.

  • @ExposingTheGOP Not judging but... It is her voice that helps me believe in angels and God. Her voice is so beautiful and timeless.

  • Superstar The Carpenters is my favorite song.

  • Thanks for leaving a space for an amazing band from before :-)

  • I was only 8 in '74 I sure wish I had parents that would have taken me to see them in concert!!!!

  • ,,yeah and Elvis played 30 miles down the road from me in 75 but being in 1st grade you don't grasp the importance of such things untill your older.

  • I don't like it when people say Richard was the talent. Richard did nothing but perfected his piano skills all his life. Karen did what? Play outside? It was not until she was a teen where she developed musical talents. She taught herself to play the drums.

And the fact that she is the best singer out there and learned to play drums by herself means she's a NATURAL TALENT. There are better pianists than Richard but she is the best singer.

She makes the HITS. Richard is nothing w/o her.

  • Don't underestimate him. His studio skills and his musical arrangements were designed for Karen's voice and style and another person might not have been able to make the right material to bring out the best of her lovely voice. I think Karen would actually agree here if she was here.

They were a team, so I certainly wouldn't say that one of them was the talent. They were each good at different things. Karen's drum skills are under appreciated though.

  • @christo930 I'm sorry for what I said earlier. Yes Richard is one of a kind but what people fail to realize is Karen had just about the same potential as Richard if she was given the chance. She was naturally amazing at drums without any formal training but they deprived her of playing it. Since their Horizon album, she didn't drum anymore.

  • christo930, but Richard never took Karen too a hospital when she looked like a walking corpse... and this guy is still living a lavish life off his sister's awesome voice! Somebody could have saved Karen but they chose NOT TOO!

  • Karen's family did everything they could to help her, including Richard. They got her in the hospital, put her in touch with people they could help... At the end of the day, you can't stop people who are bound and determined to do something without locking them up in some way. It's a tragedy, but it's not Dick's fault.

  • She hated to essen mit zee food-eeze.

  • huh?

  • She did not like to eat.

  • hang on - I read she died because she ate too much too quickly after not eating much for a while.

  • YES ! Just like Ed McMan !!!

  • @vinniram no actualliy it's the opposite, she starved herself

    anorexia

  • @christo930

plus eating disorder was not widely known back then. Karen Carpenter's death brought attention that and many other eating disorders. The family just didn't know what they were dealing with. The doctors didn't realized that the sudden weight gain was a strain on weaken heart from the constant dieting would killed her. I was sadden to hear of her death when it was announce on the radio.

  • Vegas787 I agree with you in part. They could have saved her. I am not if they intentionally wanted the money. We are soooooooooo much more advance and intervention savvy than they were when she died in the 80's. Did she die in the 80's? I'm not sure I was still a kid in the 80's.

  • Yes, in 1983. She was getting treatment before she died, but as you said, they were not as advanced then as we are today, and she had already been suffering with it ffor years. Her body couldn't handle putting on that amount of weight so quickly after so long starving herself. I don't think Richard or the family is to blame, though I do think their mother is/was very overbearing from what I've seen of old interviews.

  • I agree with you. They were a team. Karen had a wonderful voice, but Richard made excellent musical arrangements for her. The Carpenters were a combination of several talents.

  • Incredible how her voice comes through even from such a low quality clip...

  • for anyone who has ever loved and truly lost the love they had,, like i did.

  • @LIZQ1 You=Superstar

"...in love with You, before Our second show..."

Please Join Me in my New Start.

  • i miss you ann

  • she was one of the best singers in the world at the time before she died

  • @SouthDownIPLO ... I agree, and what's more, I think she is still is one (if not the) best singers in the world...

  • @zeeky33 She's probably one of the most soulful women to ever grace a microphone with her beautiful voice; too young--so sad. Karen Carpenter is Still a Superstar, in my humble opinion--and that's saying alot, considering the fact that I'm a hardcore Punk

  • I heard this on Juno and I always thought this was Luther Vandross's song... really nice.. How did she die?

  • Heart Attack caused by years of abusing her body via anorexia nervosa. A very tragic and premature ending to one of the really great singers of all time.

  • Really lovely...

  • what ever happen to her side kick

  • Her brother Richard, is living the good life, in Thousand Oaks, CA and is quite active in the community.

  • @sharki369 : Richard is not her "sidekick". Even though Karen's voice could beat 1000 angels singing, Richard's an amazing composer/pianist/producer. I don't think it's fair that his talent is overlooked so often. Karen and Richard wouldn't have made it so far in the music industry on their own. Neither of them were "sidekicks" to each other. Remember that.

  • Daisymaniac129 -

I agree. His talent never escaped me. Karen's death must have been hell on him. He was every bit, if not more talented than Karen and we all know how great she was.

  • sharki369 -

Karen was his side kick. Richard Carpenter, her brother, wrote the songs, started the group and "discovered" Karen. Very cute guy, I thought. A real loss that Karen died so young. She had the best voice I ever heard. Madonna is a huge Karen Carpenter fan.

  • This song, the only song they did that was really great, was NOT a Richard Carpenter song. He wrote easy-listening pop stuff, but good for what it was.

    SHE was the talent.

  • Her voice was flawless.

  • So sad she left us. Beautiful voice...no one compares..

  • Hey there, Superstar ... ;-)

  • Jerry Hsu's part in bag of suck fit with this song so well. This song is really goodddddddddddd

  • awesome....

  • She has a great voice and her type of voice only comes maybe once in a life time. No singer from the past or present

can match her singing style. God did a good job a gift from heaven. Now she's with god lucky guy. thanks

  • Oh my goodness another idiot. FeudianSlip75 ' Cant you tell

"He's an idiot" Not much you can say to someone who is unhappy. They never have anything nice to say about anyone

or anything.Oh' by the way their is alot more on YouTube.

  • "Superstar" is a 1969 song written by Bonnie Bramlett and Leon Russell

  • What the hell is wrong with you, copmmusic?

  • Why don't you drop dead asshole?

  • WHAT! are u being sarcastic about calling her fat? please say you are!!!

  • you can tell shes 80 pounds thats sick!

  • DUMBASS American.

She was a REAL singer. Why don't you go listen to your DUMBASS music.

  • what the heck?

  • the drummer is mixed too loud! Also he is terribly over playing......stop with the fills Cubby!

  • essa música é linda, como todas que eles fizeram. Saudades!!

  • I love the Carpenter's version and Luther Vandross's version...but the version that inspired it all was Bette Midler's. Richard Carpenter heard her singing it on the Tonight Show and supposedly Karen didn't like the song because felt it was a bit risque so they changed the lyrics to better fit their clean cut image.

  • Although Luther Vandross did a great job remaking this song, i have much respect for this original version.wonderful job by Karen Carpenter and for that matter all of the Carpenter songs

  • If I may, I'm a big fan of the Carpenters and I love this song in any version. However, do yourselves a favor and listen to the version by Luther Vandross.

  • I have and it just sounds _wrong_ for a guy to sing this song. Historically, there just haven't been many, if any, guys who were groupies. He's very talented and has done a lot of good stuff but this song was better by Karen or by Rita Coolidge.

  • (songwriter) Leon Russell - Rules !

  • I think Bonnie Bramlett wrote this.Leon Russell was a band member of Derric And The Domonos.Did He co-wite this with her?

  • Bravo!

  • I'm 13 and love this!!!!!! But I do agree that sonic youth's version is way more emotional.

  • The Sonic Youth version is much more emotional than this one:P

  • yes very haunting too

  • excuse me guys, but who is remembered for the song, who had the hit record, whose web page are you on?

  • YEEEES , we know. IN FACT I was a kid in the Carpenters era (born 1968) The Carpenters were soo talented. True Sonic Youth did a haunting, and a moving version, BUT NEVER will compare to Karens ORIGINAL version.

  • Sonic S**t

  • this song was written about.. eric clapton.. at the request of... rita coolidge...in early 1970.. written by... leon russell-bonnie bramlett

  • Karen was an absolute stunner, no more no less

; I only wish more musicians nowadays folloewed suit of those gone before them...

  • just watching "Tommy Boy" with chris farley and david spade and they started singing this song. now i finally know who

sang this song, and wow is it good

  • old song is wonderful

  • what's unique about Karen is that she dresses conservatively and still sells records, unlike some of today's singers who feels like they have to dress provocatively or show their boobs, goochie, whatever just to get attention for their songs.

  • the difference between someone that has actual vocal talent and those who need to use sex to sell their product.. Karen was one in a million and will be rememebered for years to come...

  • Read what carpentersfan2003 wrote i was gonna say the same til i saw it already written .... she got an amazing voice!

  • Thank you for your comment. I'm glad i'm not the only one who feels this way. I'm sad that I was born in the late 80's and missed such wonderful talent like Karen. We are sadly lacking today :( xx

  • your'e right! you missed it! she was GREAT! I was in my early teens...older sister bought all her records.... we fought over them.

  • Don't your make me jealous! Music today just isn't the same! You can't compare... she was a true talent.
