"just like the english though to take something else away from the gorgeous irish folk" ??
What? Irony of ironies, it was in fact a Belfast based Ulster-Scot who tried to claim authorship for lyrics written (and published) 150 years earlier by a minor Scots poet, and contemporary of Robert Burns, called Robert Tannahill!
@benbu7m01 what do you mean just like the English?? Scottish people arent from England dickhead. Let me guess, you live in America but you're great grandmother had an Irish accent so you think you're Irish and you wear a shamrock on St Paddy's day and pretend to like guiness?
@2ndmsktr I am pure celt kincardine born & bred .. The fact is this is IRISH song & beautiful it is . But i have read that therights to this song waas bought by a englishman . beleieve me i am totaqlly appalled by it also . Please go look it up sweetie . I don't want it to be true anymore than you do . I am total celt through & through .
I am part scottish / irish & have'nt the english robbed us all enough . I am on your side sweetheart :) x
@2ndmsktr I know the diffirence between scottish & english . I have probably got more celt blood running throungh my veins than you can dream of.. Both my grandfathers are scottish & theIr fathers & family way before that . See i can trace my family way back . My great grandmothers were from county clare in ireland ,, Me i was born & raised in fife . The diffirence is i read etc & my uncle was the queen mothers own bagpiper . so i only have one more thing to say to you Pòg mo thòin !!! :) .
@benbu7m01 Póg mo thóin? How about téigh trasna ort féin to you báltaí? So you read do you? Unusual for a scot thought most of you were too busy frying food and injecting heroin into yourselves. So an Englishman bought the rights to this song...that doesn't stop it from being an Irish song. You're making out like they claim its theirs...they published it for McPeake, an native Belfast man. Also I'm Irish born and bred so focáil leag.
@2ndmsktr you have a lot of Pakistanis in Belfast as well , if they make a Bollywood film would you claim that as well? If your from Belfast their is a real chance your fore fathers were Scots or Norse too. Does it really matter , Scots and Irish are closely related lets keep it that way.
Yeah & a amazing grace was written by a dutchman... Who gives a shit & it's a beautiful song... At the end of the day scottish & irish are celts, enough said ..I am scotiish/ irish & proud..Look on the brightside it could be worse a englishman could have wrote it :( LMAO !! XX
Except it's not exactly old and is definitely NOT a Scottish folk song. IT'S IRISH and was written in the mid 1940's by William McPeake who was an Irishman born in Belfast.
Utter bull! McPeake was a Plagiarist and stole the words from Robert Tannahill, who published his in 1802! Check out "The Braes of Balquidder", then tell me who wrote it!
I mean since when do Irish people even use the word "lassie"? It's "colleen" to us!
irish say everything things theirs this and danny boy god bless scotland

It is, but the words were apparently based on something a Scottish poet wrote, so we claim it as well :P
