Hunting whales for a food source goes against all logic. Whale meat is laden with extremely dangerous metals that break down the human central nervous system in a matter of years. Mercury, Methyl Mercury, Cadmium, DDT & PCBs are some of these. In effect, Japan is poisoning its own citizens. Clearly there is NO such thing as sustainable whaling when looking at these figures like you can do with cattle, sheep or pigs. The world learnt this when previous whaling saw whale populations decline by up to 90%, hence the moratorium on whaling which came into effect in 1986. Harvesting only 1000 whales a year would be the equivalent to wiping Germany off the map each year. It can't be allowed.
BTW I have lots of Japanese friends who say they are told nothing about the issue in Japan. Infact I have been there for several months at a time too and guess what most people on the street didn't even know aoubt the dolphin slaughters which is on their own turf.

Why bother trying to prove the antartic claims within ATS, when Australia and the other 31 nations in the lawsuit against japan can use the IWC whale Sanctuary? It is within the international law and their panels have already proven Japan is violation of 5 treaties/regulations within international law. After the IWC June meeting in Chile if matters have not been resolved this lawsuit will be put in place. You can read a public summary on it which is on the HSI website. they can explain it better

the current treaty does not dismiss the curent claims, they just dimmiss any new claims go read article 4 of the treaty. either way the antarctic treaty waters forbid mid-sea refuellings and armed vessals in its zone which japan has also broken.
The Japanese Coast Guard has admitted that there is an armed Japanese Coast Guard team on board the vessel Fukuyoshi Maru No. 68 in the Southern Oceans.

I know how you feel, but grouping "Asian cultures" together in this debate won't help you. And it is Japan's culture. Norway does it too. However i think that if it is a tradition of theirs, they should kill whales in traditional boats, not with harpoon guns etc. The other thing about Japan is their government isn't questioned nearly enough by Japanese people. But saying someone's culture is mentally ill because its not the same as yours is wrong.

BTW quota reports won't work as we seen in history. Plus Japan has been caught hunting humpbacks that wasn't even submitted to IWC and more fin then on their quota due to DNA tests done on whale meat for sale in fishing communites. japanese arent misinformed at all, assies are. i live in Aus and know. japanese only recently decided to catch 50 fin whales that r no about 50000 according to IWC, thats 0.1% so they wont go extinct. also australia has the high extinction rate of any animals, also australia has only of the highs green house emisions. antaritica is not australias. claims to antaritica doesnt make it urs. only 4 countrie recognized aus claim.

Clearly there is NO such thing as sustainable whaling when looking at these figures like you can do with cattle, sheep or pigs. The world learnt this when previous whaling saw whale populations decline by up to 90%, hence the moratorium on whaling which came into effect in 1986. Harvesting only 1000 whales a year would be the equivalent to wiping Germany off the map each year. It can't be allowed.

Why bother trying to prove the antartic claims within ATS, when Australia and the other 31 nations in the lawsuit against japan can use the IWC whale Sanctuary? It is within the international law and their panels have already proven Japan is violation of 5 treaties/regulations within international law. After the IWC June meeting in Chile if matters have not been resolved this lawsuit will be put in place. You can read a public summary on it which is on the HSI website. they can explain it better

first of all, don't believe everything the media says, no media is 100% true. I recommend watching my other video of Sea Shepherd stopping the operation. every packet of butter was recorded and you can even see that it was not thrown at anyone only on the sides of the ships. Japan would rather bring this case to international court as a breach of Antarctic Treaty since currently only 4 nations (United Kingdom, New Zealand, France and Norway) out of 46 nations with treaty recognize AAT.

1) Australian Antarctic territory(AAT) is not recognized by Japan. Therefore, Australia cannot enforce its whale sanctuary to Japan.
2) Antarctic treaty does not recognize any sovereignty in Antarctic. Therefore, as long as this Antarctic treaty exists Japanese wont have any incentive to recognize AAT also.
