  • Great part in this movie,loved it :) *****

  • Im having trouble believing Griffins/ Gryphons (However you spell it) are evil.

Generally in mythology Gryphons are noble creatures and dragons are the evil ones.

  • @I3radley So maybe the plot twist is that Merlin is also evil.... eh didn't see that one coming...

  • The CG looks like good old school puppet effects. Well, maybe a little better. Once you over look the effects though, this is a great show. And it's not like it's a high buget movie or somthing, so the effects are forgivable.

  • this is almost is Australia , i just cant watch counting everyday closer and closer =]

  • Gwen is such a lucky girl! She's got wonderful Lancelot holding a torch for her and as of the finale it looks like sexy Arthur is starting to like her too.

Gah! It is too much, but not really, I LOVE it!

This was one of my favorite episodes and I loved the last fight with the Griffin with Lancelot being oh-so-noble, charging on his valiant steed with Merlin casting a pretty impressive spell and the music made the moment almost epic!

  • Chipping in late to the race discussion:even being 'purist' to the legends, why does it matter? In some versions Guinevere was descended from Romans, and there's no reason they couldn't have been black Romans. The Arthurian mythos encompasses thousands of stories, most of them contradictory. Besides which, trying to impose accuracy on a show where where Guinevere is a blacksmiths daughter,Morgan and Arthur aren't related and they all eat potatoes and tomatoes seems kinda ridiculous.

  • That griffen is pissed

  • Did anyone else think themselves sad because they recognised it as a griffin? I blame the Midland Bank ads of the 1980s

  • Maybe put it down to an education and not being a total fucking moron? If others didn't know what that was they shouldn't be allowed out on their own.

  • from painting the future.. to taking on Griffins! Go Lancelot! :D

  • omg the special affects are crap O_O

  • Arthur is so hot!!!!!!!! i love him! x

  • YOM@ ARTHURS CHEST.

GOD! bleedin' hell, i'll have him for my breakfast thanks ;) haha.

  • OMG! Arthur is soooooo HOT!!!!and the show is really great too. :)

  • Yeah, because her skin colour totally effects the storyline and changes everything. [/sarcasm]

  • what?!!!! how bludey racist r u!!!! i fink shes really gd just coz it was written in a time wen every1 was white dnt mean they all have to b white now - i mean what wold Britain be without its culture and diffrent races!!!! so DONT BE BLUDEY RACIST!!!!

  • That was written to umbongo82 BTW

  • You're right, where would be Britain without it's rich multi-cultural heritage? Britain is a better place for it but you've answered your own gripe. It is meant to be set in time when there weren't any black people around and that is my point. Guinevere is supposed to be a noble Celtic rose not black. I'm not racist but purist to the story and the word is bloody, by the way.

  • Besides all that, it's a shockingly bad programme.

  • Don't be so thick. It's not a contemporary show. It was set in a time when there were pretty much no one but whites in Britain and it would be historically inaccurate to fill it with multicultural characters.

  • sooo it doesnt have to be "historicaly accurate" I mean Merlin didn't even exist - he was just a ledgend - so you can't ever be completley "historically accurate" in that program anyway

  • "Pretty much no but but" =/= none at all. There would have been (assuming a Dark Ages setting a few generations after the Romans left) black Roman descendants; some, very limited, trade abroad and such things- it's unlikely, but not completely impossible. Anyway, Merlin seems to be going for a generic English Fantasyland setting than any specifc, historically accurate time.

  • sorry that last comment from "rrtimson" was actually from bananasgurl (i accedently used my dads acount)

  • Worst...cgi...ever

  • Does anyone else think Merlin and Arthur are kinda hot?

  • my sister totally agrees, merlin is well hot she says

  • @Sarahrose990 they are kind gay lol

  • comparing to potter you have to realize they probably only had a few weeks to do this creature compared to over 1 year for potter griffin. Its pretty cool. Sound is a bit crazy though. hah

  • Were these speciel effects made in the 1930s?

  • O: I will overlook all flawed CGI for the sake of Santiago Cabrera.< 3

  • *sigh* Me too. I don't notice anything else when Santiago Cabrera is onscreen.

  • die scene bekomm ich ja besser hin mit meinem kanarienvogel...

  • nice cgi but the mix with guy is poor.6/10

  • The CGI is good, just not well integrated. And it could be a LOT worse.

  • Is that monster a Hippogriff or a Griffin?

  • Griffin/Gryphon

  • I think it was a really good idea for a show but it's been a bit of a hit and miss at times for me and the CGI is quite bad. But I couldn't do any better, so yeah.

  • Yeah the CGI is a disapointment

    ut this is televsion

they don't have as much time or budget as films

  • lol i love this show! CGI IS a bit crap, but its easy to just look past it :P xx

  • yeh but remember if u where makin your own movie i bet u'd love CGI as good as that. I know I would. Gees I'd settle for 2D effects on stuff I make lol. But yeh ur rite it is easy 2 look past on TV

  • lol i know, if i managed to create CGI like that, i would be so pleased with myself that id tell strangerz in the street:) xxx

  • Love this show, but alas this fight looks kind of, well, crap.

  • yeah, i agree with those people below, the CGI was kinda rubbish, even tho i LOVE merlin!

but if everyone remembers, the CGI in the first episode of doctor who with christopher eccleston was also rubbish, but look at it now!

    ^_^

  • I think the CGI here looks better than some of it we've seen so far, but saying that I haven't seen this episode on TV yet.

  • this cgi was absolutely shit

  • errr is it just me or is this part cut and pasted from a Harry Potter film????!! You know the bit where the winged monster attacks.. hey wait a minute!

  • Its a griffin and they are a mythical monster so its not copied and pasted.

    Well like merlin its brillian.

  • I dont really believe that CGI T_T

But I absolutly LOVE merlin! <3

  • The CGI definatly leaves something to be desired

other than that though Merlin's great! It should have more Morgana in it though!

  • this is cool!!

  • Remember Knightmare? It's like that, only less professionally made.

  • I love this show!

After that dreadful Robin Hood show and some other very poorly made programmes Finally BBC makes something this good!

Makes the License Fee actually worth paying for!

    Keep it up BBC!

  • or just axe the license fee.they always take the mick anyway.are you seeing that carry on film later on, on bbc? the premiere of another 1970s film!

  • Robin hood was fantastic:O

  • It probaly was to some but it did'nt have a great and large appeal!
