  • Um...anyone ever heard of Mad Men? There's "something like it" on TV!

  • @finnfan17 Really? I'm fairly certain she didn't refer to the time period in question, but to the fact that the series follows Pan Am stewardesses.

Mad Men is a drama that centres around commercialism and men, whereas Pan Am is more of a charmingly cute soap about women expanding their options and horizons in the 50s...

  • @Lov3a1ways Or was it 60's? haha

  • @Lov3a1ways True enough, but I contend ABC would not have considered picking up a show set in the early sixties if Mad Men had not been such a huge hit and stayed on for 5 seasons. Mad Men also does touch on the subject of women expanding their possibilities...what about Peggy? You can't escape that subject considering the time period. Anyway, you're point is well taken. I do like the show.

  • I really love the show! It has the potential to be the next Desperate Housewives! :D

  • Pretty lovely in Uniform ,I am already In Love !

  • lol now American Stewardess are all 40- 50+ What the heck happened

  • @Dancing88Mike Political correctness happened.

  • every time i watch this I always think of Margot Robbie as Donna From Neighbor's Man i miss her :) Happy shes doing this but

  • I wish I could go back to the sixties! Such an awesome era!!

  • I would say i love the show but because i live in the uk i carnt watch it even tho america have more episodes out and BBC carnt be bothered to play them on bbc 2 even tho it beats all the lame shows on there :(

  • @HaloWarsHarry you know that it is played on bbc2 right? every saturday night.......and bbc is only one week behind america showing them

  • So shallow. For the lowest commen denominator.

  • Beautiful Show with Pretty Lovely Stewardesses .Awesome! :)

  • Can all of you just shut the hell up, and enjoy this show. DAMN IT. I LOVE THIS SHOW <3333. I REALLY want them to renew it. :)

  • Enough about not hiring women of color. Whites do not expect another race to hire them, why should minorities have to rely on some other race to provide opportunities for them?

Can't blacks build their own factories, jets, computers, corporations, and get it done without help from outside?

  • @GarthanSaal444 Are you really that much of a racist asswipe! Most of the ones doing the hiring back then were white! Back then, blacks were not even allowed to be flight attendants, simply because of the color of their skin. The color we are born is something none of us has control over including you!

  • @flyairboy I'll say it again. If you need another race to hire you, then you will never be equal. What if the races were reversed? First of all, a black run organization was no doubt established by whites. Read up on Haiti, Detroit, and every majority black school district on Earth. Secondly, if you exclude whites, all they will do is make their own schools, factories, JETS, and they will vow theirs will be better than yours.

  • It all changed when De-reg came in...

No more glamoring flights and hot heavy meals...

I think is (correct me if I'm wrong), Continental is last US major carrier that abolished inflight meal in domestic routes. Now, you have to pay to eat! plus airfare!

  • I LOVE THIS SHOW ... <3

  • This show continues the tradition of trampling on the "Pan Am" name.

  • The pilots are too young. They are like surfer dudes....

  • Amazing how so many commenting here don't get it about airline stewardesses? They are much more than just "waitresses in the sky." There were very stringent requirements to the job and not just any Jane off the street could become a stewardess for any airline, let alone the gold standard Pan Am. Some of you people need to get educated and stop with the elitist and sexist comments! The show is a darn good show and I hope it succeeds desite the haters!

  • Loved the first show. Great looking women, in shape (bring the scale back - PLEASE), but the pilots need to be in their 40s.

They did not let 28 year-old pilots fly the 707s. Get some George Clooney old guys on there for the women viewers.

Those were the days. I wish women would dress like this nowadays.

  • @MaxxGladiator thats going to be part of the story though how the pilot got there so young it was explained to the press that there was a reason for it and we will find out as the show goes on. we did see older pilots in the flashbacks

  • @MaxxGladiator hehe I a gree with you, the pilots should be in their 40s :)

  • @MaxxGladiator Co-pilots yes, but too young to be a captain for sure.

  • @MaxxGladiator There was an episode explaining why the captain is so young and shows other pilots who are much older.

  • @MaxxGladiator Those days aren't completely gone as long as we don't let them die! :)

I'm 21 years old and dress this way every day. I'm living the 50's/60's lifestyle on a daily basis, in a late 50's house with a 60's car. People ask me why I do, and I say that it helps me escape from modern stress and takes me back to a time where things were simpler. I try to encourage other women to not be afraid to look classy, it is such a timeless look.

  • This sh

  • It must be fulfilling for these actresses to portray Denny's waitresses at 30,000 feet.

  • yah well air waitresses earned quite enough money back in the day . But they were basically glorified escort girls serving brunch. Height, weight and specific skin colour were required for the job.

  • @cannoir not every waitress can save man's life during or after plain crash

  • @Jellytko or even a fancy crash. ;)

  • @cannoir height weight requirements yes. Specific skin color no. The first African American F/A was hired by Mohawk airlines in 1957. TWA was the first major airline to hire a woman of color, and Pan Am as it was an international airline had stewardesses from all over the world. Black women began getting hired in larger numbers in the late 1960s and throughout the 70s.

  • black women are not the only women with more melanin, I actually had a relative working for panam back in the day.and it is was common knowledge that for 40 blond and blue eyed you only had one Asian ( never a chinese, most times a eurasian), 1 Hapa-Haole and 1 black girl ( the black girl was always pale skinned ).In their promos panam only started to add black women in the late 70s and I promess you there was NEVER more than one.Come to think of it not much as changed really.I fly a lot.

  • @choosing2lookeast What was the height requirement?

  • @MrTruthBeTold51 Doesn't seem that much different than Mad Men, where the actresses are playing housewives and secretaries.

  • @gahzeyboe Well, Mad Men seems more cynical and even bitter, not in a bad way, mind you, while Pan Am seems more glossy and nostalgic.

  • @MrTruthBeTold51 Actresses take on a variety of roles. Must every role be that of a CEO or non-traditional job? Don't we have enough doctor and cop dramas out there? I, for one, am GLAD there are more shows with people working various pink collar jobs because for many women, even today in 2011 AD that is the reality, and you know what there is NOTHING WRONG with such jobs! It's better than being unemployed, I'd say.

  • @choosing2lookeast That's very enlightening Stewardess. Now get me another Diet Coke and some peanuts.

  • LOVE IT CANT WAIT!!
