    1) concise

    2)short

    3)straight to the point

  • Oh mY god, these kind of series about, How to learn english It's so amazing.. Man you're the best doing that kind of things.. But if it is not too much aks for,, Can you put subtitles in some of those videos.. It would be awesome..

  • Hey! You're welcome! I hope you are learning lots for the TOEFL speaking section!

  • very funny!... thanks for that Steve!..

  • yeah, I'm actually getting some valuable tips. Thanks for that.

  • thanks for the comment!!!!

  • Thank you Steve, you are awsome~!

  • At my English test, we need to select a book, take it to home and read (we have a great time for it). Then we need to speak for at least 5 minutes. OMG, it's the longest 5 minutes of our lives! 70% of the class speaks 4 mins. and go to the chair almost shaking...

I spoke four and I though it was only 3! Hehe, this time I was lucky... and my mark was 93 I guess. The overall was 95

  • When you don't know what to say it's difficult to stay on topic.. ;)

    Thanks for the tips!!

  • Hmmmm, this is usually not a problem. Usually it's the other way around i.e. the students have problems staying within the 45 second time limit. Are you able to write down two points to support your opinion as soon as you see/hear the question?

  • Hi Steve,

Actually I don't have difficulties in stating my opinions and preference.

But, my problem is I cannot speak for 45sec.

I think 45 sec is too long for me.

    So, what is your suggestion?

    Thanks...

  • Hi iwik12 !

Thanks for you comment! I hope that you were able to take advantage of the info. in my videos!

    Steve

  • Hi there!

First of all, I'd like to congratulate Steve Ford for his videos and for letting us learn from these tips.

    Bye!

  • whish english skill..........?

can we answer (nothing) next Q?

  • nono! Please try and answer whatever you can! Just saying nothing and jumping to the next will leave a big gap and give you 0 points. Try to think of something 'on the spot'

  • what happened to the video # 4? i can't find it :(

  • I have one more question.I have some sort ot plan how to speak on the test,i mean a prepared structure, and it`s structured from 5 sentences.1sen - direct answer.2-first reason.3-examples.4-second reason.5-examples or details.I can finish it for like 30 -35 seconds. But there are 10 seconds left,is it going to be a mistake if i stop speak then?

  • It`s probably not only me,who is bad with the TOEFL speaking section,it`s hard to concetrate when you hear the "beep"

  • Yes, the time constraints, people talking around you and as you say the ' beep ' are all very distracting. The key to is to train for the independent speaking test beforehand to boost your confidence during the real test.

I help my students brainstorm ideas when they are having difficulty and at the same time I give them a good idea what 45 or 60 seconds is and how they can answer effectively in this time frame.

    I hope this helps!

    Steve

    Mexican Student.

  • Hi Irami,

Thank you for your wonderful comments. The best news of all is that I teach TOEFL/Business/Regular ESL entirely online.

Let me know if you would like to set up an appointment for a demonstration class!

    Regards,

    Steve

  • Hello everyone!

For me the biggest problem would be vocobulary. I don't know the strict rules about this exam but I'm bery intrested in Don't heve to be there a lot of sophisticated phrases and "big words" ? How it really is?

  • hey, thanks for what you're doing! It seems to be obvious what you adviced, however if I remembered about it during the test I took recently, I would propably get some better score. So it's always a pleasure to learn from your videos. Have a good day.

  • It's a great point you have brought up. As you know when you have only 45 seconds to do each question and short periods of time to do the reading/listening in the integrated tasks, it's easy to get nervous. This is where I come in i.e. to constantly remind my students of the game plan which must be followed to get the highest marks. :) Consider me your personal trainer.

    Regards,

    Steve

  • Thanks Steve. Yeah, that's true, I was getting stressed out having to constantly watch how much time is left over. It's distracting especially during the integrated tasks, while reading. BTW, It's been over two weeks since I took the test, and the score is not available yet - is that normal? How long does it normally take?
