Luz was my great grandmother. Julia my grandmother married Evaristo, my grandfather. Lucy is my father, Joe's, sister. Ceasar is my great Uncle, Richard my first cousin, and Michael, my second cousin.
Julia was my great grandmother; evaristo was my grandfather. Lucy is my aunt. Michael's grandfather, Ceasar is my great uncle, his father is my first cousin.
micheal diaz to mitch diaz (cont): We were connected into the tribe via Augustine Ruiz - full blood.
Luz Avila was Augustines first wife, she was full blood.
She gave birth to Julia Ruiz - of course full blood.
Luz died from complications of giving birth to Julia (per my great aunt Lucy, Ceasars sister who by the way is alive and kicking). Petra was Augustines second wife. Lucy says she was named after Luz.
michael diaz to mitch diaz (cont): With Federal Recognition, the Mission San Juan faction sent out notices last year dropping many registered tribal members. Not sure of the details. I figured Fran showed me how I was connected, that I would wait for them to get recognition then try to re-hook back in. It is a mess. All the factions fight, not so much the people but the power grab has the representatives at each others throats.
I await, still, recognition from my Nation and Tribe, though my second cousin has been on the rolls for years, that I am a bonified member of my tribe. This saddens me, though I have written through email the website and emailed directly the chiefs of the two predominant branches of the tribe with my lineage. Why will no one respond to me at this crucial time. i weep, Mitchell Dean Diaz
This brings tears to my eyes--of Joy and Sadness--as I have just found out that my grandmother, Julia Avila, daughter of Luz Avila, was a full blooded Juaneno--and I am member of this tribe. I have for some sixteen years identified myself, as what I thought was half Mexican-American, as a native american, but Mexican's not having that recognition in this culture, I had come to identify with the Oglala Lakota Sioux--and intregral to that practice have been the owl feather and moon. Native American slaves trade in 1906 what the hell why has nobody heard about this? I thought slavery was band in 1868 and what was that guy singing at 4:41?
in the state of california if was legal to buy and trade indians until 1924 the year we were made american citizens. yes alot of the truth about cali natives is hidden. the creator knows the truth and we will see justice one day. karmas a bitch homies!
A lot can be learned from a culture that has survived thousands of years here in Southern California. The Juaneno Society is still alive and indicates they will remain for many lifetimes to come.
The Native Acjachamem People(Juaneno's)greatest need is thier Freedom of Religion and the right to practice thier Ceremonial Customs and Rituals!
They also need some of thier land back, that was taken from them, so they can continue to be a positive force in our community.
The Government will never recognize the juaneno because they are not together as a tribe. The people must work together as one.................

Michael Diaz to Mitch Diaz (pt 1 of 4): I actually visited the tribal headquarters several times and went to several meetings.
I spoke with Fran Yorba at the tribal office. She actually assisted me with my enrollment paperwork.
She helped me with my relations.
So, we are related to the Bracamontes and they were at the time enrolled.

michael diaz to mitch diaz (cont): The Bracamontes actually took in Julia for a time as seen on the Census.
I believe Julia actually was hauled away to the Sherman Indian Institute and had her culture stripped from her. Still brings tears to me.
My uncle Richard (son of Caesar) has told me that Julia (it could be Luz) was sent to Sherman.
Julia married Evaristo Diaz, where we tie in of course. I remember him.

Very cool video. Hope more people check it out. And I hope the pretenders who claim to represent the Juaneno Band go away or are made to go away.
