I could see if you based everything MAC vs PC from this video, then PC would be the clear choice, however there are many variables and considerations this didn't take into account. I HAD an intel core 2 duo PC and it was awesome, until I got into 3d rendering and exporting HD videos.... then it was a friggin DINOSAUR, and HAD to go to MAC.

@EvilCutz The i7 is either a Dual or QuadCore CPU, technically you're running 2 or 4 cpus. That's not a fair comparison, also the G5 is a 6 year old PowerPC CPU. I don't think your PC would outperform a Mac that had the same hardware specs, considering that Apple uses Xeons in the Mac Pro now.
Shes got a dual xeon, 12gb ram macpro that has 2 physical cpus with 16threads(i may be wrong,maybe8), i got 1 physical cpu @4.3ghz with 4cores, 8threads + overclocked ram. There is a reason why a lot of moviemakers make a render cluster with 3 i7 machines instead of rendering on a mac server....

I work in a studio, with audiovisual production and software development. The only machine capable of running the software live is the Mac Pro. So yeah, that would be a pretty good reason I beleive.

microsoft has shares in Apple and Apple has shares in MS, this test isnt a fair one for a number of reasons mainly both machines are running different OS's, these os are very different in the way they handle your hardware, vista is not the best os to show that hardware off just like osx is not the best to show the mac off, try this test again using the same OS be it vista on both osx on both or a GNU/Linux distro on both test should be alot fairer

First of all, it's all dependent on the hardware. The default GFX card in the Mac Pro is only an 8800. You can upgrade that with something way better like a GTX 280. Obviously, a GTX 280 would win against an 8800. Second of all, the Mac Pro can play A LOT more than 27 sub-HD videos at once. Thirdly, with 16 GB of RAM and a quad core, you can do a lot more multitasking on your Mac. My MacBook Pro can play that. Install Windows on your Mac Pro and do a FAIR comparison.

I find this hard to believe. My MacBook with 2GB's RAM can pull this of but a Mac Pro with a much faster processor, a better video-card and processor can't?
Also, the Mac Pro footage ( IF it actually was recored on a Mac Pro ) was apparently recorded with recording software. Now assuming that it was recorded on a Cinema Display, which has an extremely high resolution, it takes up a high amount of it's processor power already. The footage from the PC running Vista was recorded with a camera...
yeah no doubt you can pull off some crazy processing with a PC... But who cares, that basically because of great hardware support, you could do the same on linux with the same hard ware.. the OS isn't a big deal any more when it comes to performance on loaded machines... Here's why Vista sucks... Service Pack 1... wiped out entire ability to boot.. can't even get safe mode..

I own an Intel BOXDX38BT LGA 775 X38, 4GB DDR3, E6850 CPU & ATI Radeon X1950XT 256MB - Not the fastest, but rock solid stability and zippy enough for what I do.
I didn't say fastest, just higher end (Intel Mobile Express chipset). The same chipset's found in Dell XPS M1530 and HP 9700 series laptops. Reliability costs a little more, but it is well worth it. Ppl say their $1200 laptops are as good as my MacBook Pro, but they don't have 1/2 the reliability or functionality.

and what mobo were you using? Yes i think anyone who is arguing should know the more GPU memory the more texture, ect can run on a screen at once. BUT, depends on your gpu speed aswell and how you GPU uses its memory. For example, the 4870 ati has lower busrate but 512 mb of ddr5, well guess what nvidia has 512 mb of ddr3 all the need to top notch ddr5 512mb is to raise busrate. BTW ddr5 is alot faster then ddr3.
Look guys, Apple's are about 10% more expensive, mainly due to two reasons - their parts are higher end and the second reason is because they don't sell enough to recoup costs. Look at it this way, the Apple experience is better IMO vs Vista. I would rather have the driving experience of an Audi, Porsche or BMD vs a Kia or Ford. Sure, you can mod them endlessly and sure they could be faster than a Porsche or BMD but ooohhh that ride/experience - they just cannot compare.

microsoft has shares in Apple and Apple has shares in MS, this test isnt a fair one for a number of reasons mainly both machines are running different OS's, these os are very different in the way they handle your hardware, vista is not the best os to show that hardware off just like osx is not the best to show the mac off, try this test again using the same OS be it vista on both osx on both or a GNU/Linux distro on both test should be alot fairer

2) Not fully POSIX compatible
3) GDI+ runs in kernel space
4) Kernel is not preemptive
5) 64-bit versions has a 32-bit kernel and 32-bit APIs

First of all, it's all dependent on the hardware. The default GFX card in the Mac Pro is only an 8800. You can upgrade that with something way better like a GTX 280. Obviously, a GTX 280 would win against an 8800. Second of all, the Mac Pro can play A LOT more than 27 sub-HD videos at once. Thirdly, with 16 GB of RAM and a quad core, you can do a lot more multitasking on your Mac. My MacBook Pro can play that. Install Windows on your Mac Pro and do a FAIR comparison.

1-Does not show PC "Properties" or Apple "About This Mac" specs could be anything.
2-No vid card specs. Vid card mem/proc/pipes has a lot to do with video performance.
3-What Mac is he really using. Does not show Dock on Apple. This could be a G4 or G5 for all we know.

I find this hard to believe. My MacBook with 2GB's RAM can pull this of but a Mac Pro with a much faster processor, a better video-card and processor can't?
Also, the Mac Pro footage ( IF it actually was recored on a Mac Pro ) was apparently recorded with recording software. Now assuming that it was recorded on a Cinema Display, which has an extremely high resolution, it takes up a high amount of it's processor power already. The footage from the PC running Vista was recorded with a camera...

But who cares, that basically because of great hardware support, you could do the same on linux with the same hard ware.. the OS isn't a big deal any more when it comes to performance on loaded machines... Here's why Vista sucks... Service Pack 1... wiped out entire ability to boot.. can't even get safe mode..

I own an Intel BOXDX38BT LGA 775 X38, 4GB DDR3, E6850 CPU & ATI Radeon X1950XT 256MB - Not the fastest, but rock solid stability and zippy enough for what I do.
I didn't say fastest, just higher end (Intel Mobile Express chipset). The same chipset's found in Dell XPS M1530 and HP 9700 series laptops. Reliability costs a little more, but it is well worth it. Ppl say their $1200 laptops are as good as my MacBook Pro, but they don't have 1/2 the reliability or functionality.

It could be any car more expensive than a Kia or Ford, it was an ex.. And yes, Apple does use higher end parts. My MB on my PC cost $250 vs my daughters which is only $59. More func., stability and more bandwidth. I just did my own test with my MacBook Pro and monitored mem/cpu usage. I played 5 HD 720p vids and my CPUs were not even tapped before I started loosing frames. I totally forgot about the video card factor. The more grafix card mem u have the more vids u can play.

and what mobo were you using? Yes i think anyone who is arguing should know the more GPU memory the more texture, ect can run on a screen at once. BUT, depends on your gpu speed aswell and how you GPU uses its memory. For example, the 4870 ati has lower busrate but 512 mb of ddr5, well guess what nvidia has 512 mb of ddr3 all the need to top notch ddr5 512mb is to raise busrate. BTW ddr5 is alot faster then ddr3.

Look guys, Apple's are about 10% more expensive, mainly due to two reasons - their parts are higher end and the second reason is because they don't sell enough to recoup costs. Look at it this way, the Apple experience is better IMO vs Vista. I would rather have the driving experience of an Audi, Porsche or BMD vs a Kia or Ford. Sure, you can mod them endlessly and sure they could be faster than a Porsche or BMD but ooohhh that ride/experience - they just cannot compare.
