If so that would be a cheaper alternative than buying a ASUS EP 121. The ASUS EP 121 is the best drawing tablet in the world and not over priced like the wacom cintiq over $2000. You can use your fingers or only draw with a stylus pen without your palm or hand causing interruption when you draw.
Had one of these for a few months now. It's a good little tool, with the potential to be even better. A review from an artist's point of view at artedstates.blogspot.com/2011/12/asus-ea800-eee-note-review-from-artists.html
I would like to buy this for my sister: I initially wanted to buy her an ebook reader but soon I figured (owning a HP TM2 ,yself) that reading at school\university is also always a note taking process, so a concumer product would not cover the needs of a student. Since this device is not available in Germany I will have to order it in Italy and therefore I cannot test it. Can anyone recommend this device?

:) I bought one the other day ;) can I ask, do you think i should get a screen protector? I am buying a foilio case.. but I dont want the stylus to scratch the screen.. do you think it will scratch? or will be fine without? thankyou for your advice
The only thing nice is that you can rest your palm on the screen while writing.
The Audio Recorder is useless, because you can't use it while you're taking notes.. It'll work, but 90% of what you'll hear is the sound of your pen writing over the tablet.
btw, it has No backlighting, so you can only use it if you're in a room with a LOT of bright light.
For a couple hundred more , check out the coming Lenovo ThinkPad (Android) Tablet.
@you2449 By a couple hundred more, you mean twice the price. The backlight will just waste battery, when would you be taking notes in the dark? Most lecture halls/offices have good lighting.
I almost bought the thinkpad tablet, but then I realized the software sucked for note taking, it literally had two options, undo and redo. If they update it I'm sure it would be more compelling, but frankly I don't need the extra features that honeycomb provides, I just need to take notes.
@Otherman101 Sure, visibility in an office or classroom is great. But don't try using this thing at home in the evening -- unless you've got your house lit up like it's New Year's Eve!
I have another e-reader that has no backlighting and it's perfectly clear in moderate lighting. But the EeeNote's screen is a murky green, & offers poor contrast w/ text or images. But the (Only) one thing it does EXCELENTLY though, is Handwriting/Note-taking. (but even then there are software limitations..)
I own one of this and I DEEPLY regreat. It is the worst tablet ever, it is cheap BUT it isn't worth ANY cents, save more money and buy a good one is my advice, viewsonic for example. This eee note is all black and white you see nothing in color, the one I have is in chinese and you can't change language, it has NO backlight so you can't read any pdf in dark room, and as far as I know there is no apps for this, and system is linux, so much I regreat wasting 200 $....:(
@AgentGhost I knew more or less what I was buying, I knew it was black and white, but I didn't know how bad it is the monitor, I didn't know there is no backlight as the shop had no machine for demo because they knew if te client take a look at it he or she wouldn't buy, it was stupid to buy something without seeing how it was before, thats why I give my testimony here to whom it may concerns.
This is a notepad not a tablet. Two different things. Notepads are not supposed to have colour or backlight. The whole point is to have superior battery life and to be cheap for notetaking. Not sure it meets those two goals very well but it does have features you don't typically find on other notepads.
@AgentGhost Sure certainly isn't a tablet, battery life I don't know I haven't use it much, didn't recharge second time yet, cheap? to me 200 US$ isn't that cheap for what it does, and which other notepads there are?
Do note that the eee note has a slight issue with intermittent pen lag previously. You can see that in 0:27, where there was a slight lag before the word 'resale' appeared onscreen.
Now, with the newest update, there's no intermittent pen lag anymore. Kudos to the Asus team for the attention to details!
If you need to use it frequently under low light conditions, for example, taking notes in a dimly lit lecture hall with your Eee Note flat on the table, you might want to re-consider...
I've finally found a way to properly show the problem I have with the Eee Note when using it indoors. I've uploaded a video demonstrating Eee Note's problem with light sources, you might wanna check it out before deciding.
Thanks for a nice vid! I am really interested in this hardware, but it has not been released in Europe yet. One question: would it be possible for you to do a side by side comparison with any e-ink device, pls? I have never seen this display compared to e-ink.
as a matter of fact, i actually did compare it to the Kobo and Sony Reader PRS-600. I can't post URLs here, so pls google 'tabletpcreview eee note kobo' and scroll down the thread to see the pictures.
But my camera wasn't very good, so the pictures' quite grainy, and it was impossible to get the glare on all 3 machines for comparison. And the Sony Reader wasn't the best candidate since it has the touchscreen film on top.
One question.. Have you too many difficulties to read the screen under the indoor light? Because some Italian blogger are writing very bad things about the screen and the glare effect.
They write there is only one position of the screen very readable.. is it true?
The viewing angles are not as good as an E-ink display, true. I've uploaded another video, maybe it'll help you. However, I must say that in the video, the screen looks darker than in real life.... -_-"
I've seen your videos and read the forum.. I'm not as satisfied as in the first look of this device, but it's the only one that can be used like a real notebook, with its 2000dpi!
So I think I'll buy one!.. I hope the screen problems show in poor light condition only.. I'll cross my fingers! ;)
Hi! I'm using it for note taking.. I'm not a drawer! ;)
My satisfaction grows up every day using it! I've learned to write like on paper and it's fantastic to travel with one device, without books, copybook, paper, ecc..
There are some features that I wish to integrate if an SDK or an API software will be deployed. ;)
very nice to know that! Well, I did took out the glass, if you saw my other videos, and I wish the software is more robust, but I'm using it very often despite everything, so yes, it's an awesome purchase.
@lxxxxl thanks. i just got one after looking at reviews. i find the inking is disappointing - jagged edges and inaccurate rendering at small points compared to my experience with windows journal (on lenovo x61). do you know if there is a setting to get the writing to look cleaner (anti-aliasing) ?
Tat was my initial reaction too regarding the jaggedness as compared to my 2730p. But when I really started using it regularly, the 'disgust' wore off and the weight and battery life, and of cos the price, won me back. So far, no other tablet can boast of wacom pen input & 10hr battery life in a portable package at Less than USD300.
Some programmers at tabletpcreview forums are interested in providing more functionality to the tablet, so you might wanna check it out
Thanks for update the video, the linking seems great, just wondering about the reflection, dose it effect much? will it be solved by applying an anti glare film?
glad to see the noise while writing is very quiet, my hp tablet pc is pretty loud and annoying
oh, by default it comes with an anti glare film applied actually. I wanted to see what it looks like without, so I tore it off. I quite like the glossy look, even though I loved my 2730p matte screen as well.
and the eee note is totally silent, because there's no fan inside. unless you're playing mp3 on it, of cos...
What a great and useful video! Thanks for posting the exact sort of test that I have been wanting to see. Looks just right for my intended use, so I'll likely get one as soon as they hit the US market.
yup, it's a great little device, barely weighs anything in my bag. It doesn't look appealing without color screens like the ipad, but many don't understand that it's for work, not play...
