hmm i was wrong about who did the spoken words. If you want to know all about this song, google "collideascope todd bernhardt" and there's an interview between Todd, and Andy - sorry - Sir John Johns that tells you everything you need to know.. (and , possibly, more)..
1:09 Sawing wood noise - "What do you know?" leading to the reply "Many tunes will ?????? be made over five ????? spots. If anyone can fill in the blanks they are a better person than me. Brilliant song mind
@thedrunkenfool The sawing - A reference to Brian Wilson's SMiLE maybe? (I'm just not sure there were bootlegs of that track circulating in the mid 80's)
@thedrunkenfool Final version.... "any changes made here will be made over my dog's body". That's what I'm sticking to!
i seem to remember reading the words were spoken by John Leckie. Agree about the tune - it's a cracker.
It sounds like they had such a brilliant time in the studio. The Dukes first album was all done on a tiny budget in some cancelled studio time for Mary Margaret O'Hara (she fired Andy on day 1 , so we have her to thank!).
Any chance you would upload the tite track? My personal fave off the record...

glam, psych and the Beatles all fell down a steep incline together, the dukes will always be a part of my wellspent youth.....

It never fails, eventually I go from XTC to Dukes to Hollies, Zombies, etc. Or the same path in the reverse. Either way, youtube (almost) never ends!
