  • So...in 1971 the tickets were what...$6? Led Zeppelin had made, what, 20% of their music (if that)? And they were already the best ever...awesome film...I wish I could go back to that time (but miss the draft)

  • I think this was at the Sam Houston Coliseum, which was pretty much where all rock bands performed on their Houston stops. The Beatles played there, for example. It has since been leveled and replaced by a new performing arts theatre.

  • what location was this concert at?

  • Houston in the 1970's. No fat people...

  • ver o publico é um show à parte

  • 0:30 to 0:34 steven hyde.

  • @rockguru999 :O!! He's REAL!!! lol i thought that too.

  • early perv camera days....... historic

  • Robert looks very sexy

  • i was fortunate to see them live in concert back in 76 or 77, i think it was their last tour. all the bands of today are a bunch of pussies compared to the mega-rock bands of the 70's. glad to say i saw most of them and led zep is the greatest kick ass rock band ever...

  • 2:26

    Hitler or Lemmy Kilmister?!

  • God made them play music for us. Aren't we so lucky as humans to have this to listen to and make our soles so happy.

  • Did they have refills for your fanta and cola back in 1971??

  • The people going to that show look different that what you'd see today. I don't mean the fashion styles or demographics. There's very few people going to the show who are overweight.

  • @mikeockurts

    What's the point?

  • I think I saw my mom :)

  • As far as I'm concerned, the intro of "Out On The Tiles" is the intro of Black Dog.

  • haha i saw the black tank top and jeans and thought it was brian johnson for a second

  • This was my first Zep show. I remember sitting out front with that big marqee saying Tonight Led Zeppelin and my heart was pounding. I'm 60 now, and those times were the greatest. My 20 yr. old has told me on more than one occasion, "I wish I lived back then, Dad." Yea, well, I thank God I did.

  • @caseyables I'm not your son but you were VERY lucky to see them in the early 70s. They are in like my top 5 best bands ever to see live if I had the chance.

  • did you watch the concert on any drugs? haha

  • @pfigman we're on the same page here

  • amazing video for the time.

  • i wonder who had the smarts to film/video this--w/audio? not easy like it is today.. I had lots of cameras confiscated back in the day..great that LZ.com supports bootlegs.

  • I don't know about the 70's,but I know in the 80's the Sam Houston Coliseum was a dangerous place to go for concerts. Roving bands of Mexicans thugs would attack people and steal their concert shirts. They would hunt in packs sometimes 10 of them jumping 2 guy's with fists, kicks and usually knives. They would approach you at first and tell you to give them your shirt and if you didn't they would immediately pounce. The middle class white kids from the burbs were the easiest targets.

  • i was at this concert ...thank you so much for posting this ...what a hoot

  • @pfigment Man.. I wish I was the age I am now, back in this time... Im so into anything 90's and back. Im ashamed to live amoungst thing modern age of music.

  • @azombiestool Ditto

  • Hello there music appreciator.

-Do bands like Zeppelin, Floyd, The Doors, Hendrix and the Who give you chills? Are you physically attracted to seeking truth in music? Well I am formally inviting you to take a listen to my channel, relax and let you ears fully enjoy my sound. I would love it if you took the time, they wont leave you disapointed. • page`s guitar position seems higher than usual.

    but playing is amazing!

  • What the fuck? I had a nigger pop up on my ad before the vid!?

  • rare video

  • I was born in '71 and saw led zep for all 5 songs in Tampa, couldnt party though, I was just going on 6

  • The most fascinating thing I notice is just how normal the clothes are. It's not that far off from what you'd see at a concert today really. Yet, pop culture likes to display 1971 as something drastically different, especially among the music scene.

  • OVERIT?AMEN

  • Fu*k me, I wish to God I'd been born in the '50's so i could have seen the Zep as a young man and partied.

  • i live in houston....i guess im living in a wrong year here =(

  • I think i saw my Mom, I was only 3 and i am still mad she didnt bring me!! Long live Zeppelin!!!

  • I have to ask......... was there one joint after another passing through the rows at this concert? And did the police just watch on as if it were a normal part of a concert?

At least that's how it went in Dallas. I went to a "rock" concert recently. What happened??? I went to the White Stripes, even Green Day.... it is just pitiful what passes for a rock concert these days. The police state has taken over and it SUCKS

  • they had cameraphones back then ? :-)

  • @ptaaffe Yes, they were very chunky and didn't have the phone! :D

  • is it just me that hears someone say "stop" after robert sings "i'm so glad i'm leaving" cause i heard it the first time i listened to it

  • @daviejtube95 Yes, I noticed that in the left speaker at 1:24, it sounds like some kind of verbal direction to the rest of the band. Though not sure what that mic was actually for otherwise- it sounds like they left it in on purpose

  • I saw this tour at the L.A. Forum.

  • Just listen to Bonham at 6:27. These dipshit drummers these days thinking they're all bad ass with their "ticka-ticka-ticka-ticka-ticka-ticka-ticka-ticka" double bass pedals. I'm sorry, you all start playing like the MIGHTY BONZO and maybe I'll be impressed!

  • See the concrete stairs between sections? I fell and rolled all the way down a row of stairs. I did not feel the pain. It was a great night.

  • suns out guns out robert

  • 0:03 - 0:05 their name is spelled wrong.

  • @jcordj66 Those bastards

  • @jcordj66 Of course... fuckin Texas!

  • @jcordj66: Led Zeppelin is right, im pretty sure

  • Fantastic. I was 6 when they did this show, and I wish to hell I could go back in time.

  • They Mispelled "Zeppelin" at :03 LOL

  • como se llama la cancion que pasa al inicio??

  • @unidenalex out of the tiles

  • led zeppelin wow they look exactly the same, havent changed in 40 years great job sneaking that cell phone in the show

  • @twilightdimension yea cell phone

  • @twilightdimension If you brought a cell phone to a show in 1971 you would have been burned at the stakes and accused of witchcraft.

  • the footage of the concert is amazing - thank you for sharing - this, way back in the day, when LZ was just beginning to emerge - from a garage band (look at their amplifiers, stage lights, etc.) .... to what they became .... this is rare footage .... thanks again for posting such a phenomenal video (also refreshing to see all the real hippies of the day)

  • @montanabrent I dunno man. I don't think Zep were ever at the garage stage. They sort of leepfrogged way past that. By 71 they were already pretty massive- just a bit newer to the states. Still, it's great to see them at their early prime.

  • @montanabrent I dunno man. I don't think Zep were ever at the garage stage. They sort of leepfrogged way past that (all established expert musicians already, starting on the bones of a former hit band etc). By 71 they were already pretty massive- just a bit newer to the states. Still, it's great to see them at their early prime.

  • My God this is soooooo cool!

  • really fun show

  • I was born in 1971 and I look old but I dont feel old lol

  • They spelled zeppelin wrong!!?? WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @MegaZephead Who did?

  • @GuitarzMyThing Look at the billboard writing, they spelled zepplin! they forgot the (E) lol"s

  • @MegaZephead Ha, Your right :P

  • The shirt that Jimmy has on looks like the same shirt he wore in Japan of that same year.

  • @Lenjia what is it of?

  • @daviejtube95 Not really but look up Zeppelin 1971 Japan and click images.

  • that looks like the old Houston Coliseum (that no longer exists.)

must the the 70's memory failure thing, but I thought this one was at the Astrodome.

  • @arizonamontana that would be the Sam houston Coliseum

  • @arizonamontana that would be the Sam houston Coliseum i should know I was there

  • @chubba822 sure, I recognized the Coliseum. It's gone now, or replaced actually. Those were the days.

  • So many hotties with no bras showin nip. God I love the 70's. Long Live Led

  • If this is live, this is incredible

  • @societyforrealmusic I see it's a track before the gig footage

  • 曲を完奏でアップしてほしいよ~。うーん、ジミーのケチ!でも最高!!

  • @jesseh1 - we now have freedom to breathe clean air, instead of someone else's nasty smelling carcinogens. All a matter of perspective.

  • @greenlizard99 well arent you precious

  • @greenlizard99 your a joke

  • Thank you Jimmy Page for keeping the violin bow industry afloat in the 1970's.

  • robert plant really looks like a skinny rock God here. at the top of his game. its no wonder he just wont tour anymore, old age doesn't go by the hand with rock. just see the rolling stones, better to watch a horror movie

  • Led Zep stinks!

  • @drnapls2 die... die slowly

  • @stottspage Everybody is dying SLOWLY.

  • If only Jimmy Page's guitar could talk...

  • @GuitarzMyThing It can! In the right hands of course ;)

  • @GuitarzMyThing It can!!

  • @GuitarzMyThing But doesn't it talk? ;)

  • @GuitarzMyThing It would speak of the abuse, the rape, the pain.

  • @PBANDSNOW And all the stories...

  • @GuitarzMyThing Id rather be that guitar than god, actually I think I would rather be god, because then I would be playing that guitar!

  • @GuitarzMyThing it would probably be very literate but have a lift and a stutter

  • @theSodMonster lisp***

  • @GuitarzMyThing It would sound like it just finished having amazing sex cuz whenever Page plays, the guitar would scream in pleasure. Well, that's we hear in Led Zeppelin's albums and live performances. That guitar screaming with all these awesome sounds. Jimmy Page, a guitar's wet dream.

  • @GuitarzMyThing Oh, it does.

  • @GuitarzMyThing IT DOES

  • @GuitarzMyThing Oh, but it does!

  • @GuitarzMyThing It did talk, for 9 albums that's all it did was talk and people listened.

  • @theforestero plant. stage charmers;musicians,mostly. snake charmers.danger.rattles.

  • @GuitarzMyThing it does.

  • a little to young in houston and missed this concert - dam - got hip to them in 1973

  • Phenomenal!!!

  • The scene of the crime! I must have seen a hundred bands in the Sam Houston Coliseum in the '70's. To see those familair walkways, doorways, seats, sections, and concert-goers having paid their $5.00 for a show like this is about the closest I'll ever get to a trip in Mr. Peabody's wayback machine. Wow.

  • The mighty green sparkle lud's! epic!!

  • ★Led Zeppelin★ remain the greatest rock band to ever set foot on a stage. No band before or since has even come close. Zep's first six albums so far, have sold 76-million copies just in the U.S. alone, that's an average of 12.6 million per album. No music artist of any genre has ever matched this feat.

  • @tthoy1 And remember in the early 70's when The Stones were getting saturation publicity and Zep were getting virtually ignored by the music press, yet Zep were outselling every band in the world exponentially. Long before the internet Led Zeppelin would sell out entire tours in a few hours with no advertising. No band has ever remotely approached the drawing power that Led Zeppelin always commanded. The clueless critics eventually came around, but the fans always knew. The still do.

  • what's the name of the first song ?

  • @Apneistefou Immagrents Song. Spelling?

  • @rocknrolldaddio thank you but i founded it ! "Out On The Tiles" !

  • ye, no wonder its rare cuz richard cole was running about at every live concert karate chopping anyone who dared make bootleg recordings of the band... and now we all wish there was more documentation of the live shows.

  • I wanna see the whole film.

  • happy 67th birthday jimmy page...i was at this concert in houston in 1971 with third row seats...when they demolished the sam houston coliseum i pirated the bronze dedication plaque (2' x 4') from the wall...it took me over three hours to get that damn thing off the wall ...it was attached with 4 inch bolts...: )...i can't believe i am seeing this vid...THANK YOU SO MUCH I AM STOKED

  • Holy chit I was just gonna say look how skinny everyone was, man we have gotten fat!

  • People were skinny then because the food industry had yet to invent high fructose corn syrup

  • Wha... I live in Houston. I never knew they came here. Why was I not told about this? damnit guys...

  • Good to see others remembering the vital roll Jonsie (John Paul Jones played in the greatest band ever. Everyone of them were equally important, that coming from Robert & Jimmy! Man was (is) a musical master

  • SAM HOUSTON COLISEUM....SAW ALOT OF CONCERTS AT THAT VENUE

  • considering what type of video equipment this guy had to work with, this is top notch.

  • check out the freaks hair spraying in a perfect coffeir looking style....ugh!

  • Notice the people were all skinny back then.

The days before all you can eat buffets i guess.

I was 6 at the time btw, still would of loved to go tho.

  • @stevenvictx hippies are veggie and seed eaters lol maybe thats why

  • @stevenvictx Unfortunately, most of them were skinny because they were in smack.

  • all the teenagers in this video are old and wrinkly now

  • @toby099 THANKS CAPTAIN OBVIOUS

  • Talk about RARE, whoa! Excellent--when Zep was young and hungry.

  • @MrISatai

yeah.. that would of been great to have been to

  • :( I was born in the wrong era. If anyone makes a time machine, take me to '68!

  • The audio is not from a bootleg--it's "Out On The Tiles" from LZ III. I know is this is a lead blimp, but FYI. The second song @ 2:50 is live... "Heartbreaker." then "D&C" and a "Stairway" finale.

  • The audio is not from a bootleg--it's "Out On The Tiles" from LZ III. I know is this is a lead blimp, but FYI.

  • My parents met each other at this show! *LOL*

  • It's as if someone went back in time to videotape Jezus

  • wat building was this in

  • @mikey342008

    Hofheinz Pavilion-University Of Houston.

  • @capetown99 Not Hofheinz. That was definitely Sam Houston Coliseum.

  • @Pmcd9

Your right, I checked the Zeppelin site.

  • there will never be another band to equal them,Bonzo what a skinsman

  • you gotta love the '70s

  • I was born and still live in Houston. The first time I saw them was summer 1971 and it was the second time they came to Hou. It was in the Univ of Hou sports arena Hofheinz Pavillion. A great place for a show. Only 8500 seats and it is round so all are good seats. This was a later show in the Colesium, now torn down. Crap acoustics, but it was the first time we heard Stairway, and God, what a show.

  • Out On The Tiles - Led Zeppelin III

  • Whats the song thats playing at the beginning?

  • One of my favorite great bands! '70s ROCK! Thanks for sharing.

  • living in the 70's Bliss.. you could not get in trouble. We all tried..

  • Wow. Houston's crowd looks alot more diverse now than it does in this clip.

  • is it just the filming or were concerts very dark in the 70's?

  • do you know whats great about zep? they didnt have to sound super distorted to sound awesome. the only time they had a "crunch" was (rah, htwww, and knebworth) and of course on albums. which i guess gives some hope to little jimmy page fans that want to get his live tone. true it is in his fingers, but his tone is mostly "clean".

    Cheers

  • When I 1st found this I thought... Whoa, I was at this show, how cool to find video. But what was really weird was that at the beginning footage I see myself!!! That's me in the hall in the red shirt at the :024-:027 part of the video. Too Cool !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @hereto246 dude that is awesome!!!! jealous...

  • @hereto246 Well, you had a sweet pair of Bellbottoms Pants, do you still have them?

  • @robertruizjr100 That was way too long ago. And I doubt I could still fit into them.

  • @hereto246 You were lucky to live in the '70s!! I wish i was alive back then.

  • What a drums tone!

  • My dad Said that in 1976 or 1977 (he can't remember) led zeppelin was commin to houston tx at the colosilum and riots were breaking out becuase everyone wanted to see them live. He didn't get his tickets.

  • cool footage of the houston crowd in `71

would love to see the same footage,or photos

of the houston show from `75

    i was at that one.

  • L Z played San Antonio TX on 8/26, the date on the marquee in the beginning. The previous night they played in Houston. [Dave Lewis: L Z Concert File]

  • Wow, awesome footage. Really gives you a sense of what 1971 looked like.

  • what is the first song?

  • @Boswanu out on the tiles :D
