Very safe car! The fact that my parents walked away from a 40mph crash involving a DUI driver and 2 other cars is a testament to this. Car may be totaled, and my parents may have whiplash, but it could have been much worse. I will always be a Ford driver.
the Taurus was never discontinued, during the the time that the Five Hundred, Montego and Freestyle was being built in Chicago, the Taurus was being built in Atlanta, GA
this crash test scared me.I never been in a crash and I have really bad anxiety about crashes. :-( i heard this was a really really SAFE car from lots of sources so many people said they had crashes in this car and came out in great condition compared to what the would have in some other vehicles
Wait. In the description. "the taurus was discontinued after 2006"? No. There was an 07 of the very same design, not to mention the 2010 that's available right now
@soulweaponry the taurus was discontinued for about 6 months in 07 but alan mulally ordered the five hundred/montego/freestar to be renamed the Taurus, Sable and Taurus X for 08 and now to day its ford's flagship sedan in its sixth generation.
I was driving an 2006 SE when I was broadsided by a Land Rover. Totaled the Land Rover and my Taurus. This happened 15 months ago. Only casualty inside the vehicle was a Double Cheeseburger meal and fruit punch from McDonalds.
Today, I drive a 2005 SE. Ford Taurus is the safest whale out there.
Considering the model year for this car, Ford kinda got it right, even though it was a redesign from the past Taurus. Oh yeah those transmissions sucked, so nevermind
he was goin 80(it was a 70 zone) and some lady was haulin ass up the on ramp and cut another person off the both swerved and hit the concrette guard wall
and my father was in the left lane and was goin 80
he punched the brakes and wasnt slowin down enought so he grinded the wall to slow down to 62 and hit them both
OK but if your talking about volvo 2009 cars they are expensive but they got more safety functions, they got expensive interior bla bla bla...But if your talkin about volvo old car like from 2000-2004 they are cheaper!
Japan didn't have a recession either, so it shouldn't have. But it doesn't matter because who in the right mind would buy a nissan anyways? Jap cars suck.
well the nissan almera, in the year 2000 was 1 and a 1/2 star rating from ncaps 40mph offset test, now which is better ford or nissan safety wise?? hmmm so hard NOT!!!
@RnB123100 Don't really want a manual in a car like the Taurus. I prefer manuals in sports cars, not mid-size family cars. As far as the Taurus being "junk" well that's your opinion, but i still see plenty of them rolling down the road. And "junk cars" don't normally do this good on crash test. This is not Europe, European roads and driving conditions are different than ours. Our cars are made for our roads and European cars are made for European roads.
@fitz207 well i perfer manual all the way'..even if the car isnt fast it still helps in mpg and repair cost.and i conider it a bad cars since its mpg and power are both lowalso its fwd and i havent heard very good feedback from mechanics (im studieng to be one myself so i know quite a few mechanics)
Very good results considering this design was really intoduced in 1996, the front sheetmetal and trunk were redesigned and the rear window from the Sable was used in the taurus. When introduced in 96 it was rated safer than the E class and equal to the S class Mercedes that is quite a feat for a (at the time) 17,000 car. Way better than the dodge intrepid and Chevy luminas, the way the door closed on the 96 taurus like a damn bank vault
I own a 2005 Taurus with side front seat air-bags, and you would think it would score a better side impace rating then the ones that didn't, nope. Still 3 out of 5 stars with them.
How can you call this BAD ?? This is a offset frontal impact test. The crumple zone did everything it was designed to do. Driver sustained minimal injuries and the cabin appears relatively intact. Compare other more expensive offset frontal impacts and see what you find. This is a great score for offset frontal impacts. Too bad Ford discontinued this platform.
I own a 2006 Ford Taurus a silver one not a station wason either im 20 years old and wprefer this car over a sports car i drive it to toronto all over and its roomy fast and reliable id suggest it to anyone...

Yah... but if we go into a global war, you can't get parts from Germany for your
Merecedes, or Japan for you Lexus. I think that American is still better, but we all have our own opinions. This Taurus IS safe, and, yes it matters now, look at how many are on the road, compared to, say, a Pontiac Aztek.
This is not even close compared to other cars/trucks. Ex: Dodge Neon,Ford F150. This car is safe compared to those cars. I was thinking about getting this car.
well, remember it's a wall that won't move an inch and then you're driving a truck which is almost by definition, heavier. So guess where all the weight from the impact is bouncing over... yup, your way.
So THAT'S how you open the trunk!
